Message from the East

My Brothers,

I can certainly attest to the adage that “Time flies when you are having fun.” Having now

finished my first quarter of service to our lodge as master, I must say that I have not only

thoroughly enjoyed myself, but I have learned come to learn and appreciate so much from the

experience.

The first thing that I have learned is how much I enjoy my brothers, our lodge, and how much more I understand what

being a brother means to me. We have a wonderful fraternity at King Solomon’s and I especially thank our officers

and brothers for your assistance and support. I have also developed a great respect for those masters who have

served before me. Viewing the lodge from the East is certainly from a different point of view that I could not have

imagined or understood until now. It is not an easy task, but it is very rewarding and one of the most enjoyable times

for me as a mason. I would highly recommend it to any brother who would consider it.

When I allude to my goals this year as master to the three legs of our stool, I can objectively reflect of what we have

done.

For our Fraternity, the first leg of our stool, we have initiated one new brother with another EA to come this month. I

am not addressing progressing brothers to FC or MM. We have also inspired some brothers who have not been to

our lodge in years, to return. We have contributed $1,000 to start our

Almoner’s Fund which is being dutifully stewarded by our Almoner,

Brother Steve Lewis. We are proud that Brother Doug Barry is serving

on the IT Committee of the Grand Lodge and is instrumental in the

implementation of the Grand Lodge’s new website. Personally, I am

serving on the Grand Lodge Insurance Committee to help bring

cohesiveness and uniformity to the insurance coverage for all the

lodges and the Temple Corps. Rounding out with our RW Brother Albin

Weber as a District Deputy, it is great to have such lodge activity on the

Grand Lodge level.

For our Community, our second leg, we have already given $500 to the

Woodbury Fuel Bank as a result of our Thunder on the Rock fundraiser.

We are now in the process of giving $500 to the Woodbury Scholarship

Fund and $500 to the Pomperaug Scholarship Fund for this year’s senior

graduates. Later this month, for the first time in perhaps a decade, we

will be hosting a CTCHIP program (Child Identification Program) at Earth

Day at Hollow Park, and on at our FC night we will be hosting a guest

lecturer on the DaVinci Code, Euclid’s 47th problem, and their

mathematical relationship to nature. In May, we are planning a

fundraiser for the Southbury Food Bank with our Derby on the Rock

which will include a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on our new

TV.

For our Lodge, our third leg, we have finished installing the second

handrail for our handicap ramp which was a needed addition. We have

just finished installing the speaker system for our TV and we finally

installed Triglyphs on the frieze of our Temple trim. We will soon be

putting handicap grab bars and new faucets in our restrooms. We still

have more to do, but our lodge is becoming a very desirable place to be

and meet.

My Brothers, we are making new strides every month, but we need

your help and involvement to make it happen. If you have not been to

lodge in a while, please come and join us as a brother of King Solomon’s

Lodge 7.

In Service,

Bro. John A. Novak

Tabs for Tots Program Please remember to remove the soda and beer can "Tabs" and save the and bring the to Lodge. They eventually go to the Shriners who turn them in for money for their needs with the Hospitals, etc. This is the only part of the can where the metal is worth any-thing. It is Aircraft Aluminum which has great recycle value. Plus, you will still be getting the 5 cents when you turn in the can.

Double the Money!!

The Best way to keep up with what's happening:

• Attend meetings

• Save a Trestleboard

• Go to the WEBSITE www.kingsolomonslodge7.org

• Visit the FACEBOOK Page www.facebook.com/KingSolomonsLodge7

From the West Gate:

Brothers,

I hope you have had a chance to see our newly refreshed website. The address is the same but it is

directed at new servers running a modern interface. Special thanks are due to our Jr. Deacon, Bro.

Doug Barry for all his helping with the transition, not only for our lodge but lodges around the state.

The cutover wasn’t as smooth as one might have hoped but with Doug’s help, we got through it.

It is by the members of this lodge stepping up to the challenge and not assuming others will do the work, that we do

the amazing things that we do. As our Worshipful Master iterated many times during the renovation efforts, “Many

hands make light work.” Many of us have busy schedules and struggle to find the time but as more people step up, the

ask of each participant is significantly reduced.

If you hadn’t yet seen it, the new Grand Master’s pin (left) depicts a beehive. Masonically, the

beehive is an emblem of industry. It reminds us that through everyone working together toward a

common goal and not waiting to be asked, we can accomplish great things.

Almoner’s Words

Brothers, As part of our Lodge wide commitment to coming to the aid and comfort of our fellow Brothers, KSL #7 conducted Masonic funeral rites at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home on Main Street in Woodbury for Bro. Robert C. MacLellan who travelled that long road to meet our Maker in February of this year. We also had the fortune to be able to contribute $500.00 to the Bethlehem Fuel Bank on March 21st, when their cash reserves were at their low point. Kudos to all of those who organized and participated in “Thunder on the Rock” which provided the funds for this contribution. On March 7th, I represented our Lodge at a Grand Lodge gathering of Almoners from around the state. The primary focus was on the Masonicare services. We were urged to gather Brothers together for a tour of the facilities and to “get your name on the list” for admittance. They are focused on Connecticut residents only. For out of state brothers, there is a network for making local referrals. If you are interested in visiting the Masonicare facilities, please contact me and we’ll make arrangements. As always, should you know of a Brother in need, please contact WM Novak, any Lodge Officer or me ([email protected] or 203.982.3356). All information will be held in confidence and trust. With Brotherly love, Bro. Steve Lewis Almoner

Thunder on the Rock

This year’s “Golden Ladle” for best chili was presented to Brother Kevin Brown. Well done, Brother!

The Brothers of King Solomon’s Lodge No. 7 presented a

check for $500.00 to Jane Pittari of the First Church of

Bethlehem to support the Bethlehem Fuel Bank.

From the South Gate:

Our brother Ulysses S. Grant once said,

“The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish the most. I can better trust those who helped

to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the

sunshine of my prosperity.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my Brothers for the many kind thoughts,

words, and condolences which have been expressed during the recent dark hours of my life. This has surely

demonstrated and highlighted one of the most primary values of our fraternity, Brotherly Love. I trust that all my

Brothers, who helped to relieve the gloom of loved ones passing, will be there to enjoy the sunshine with me also in

the days to come.

As we continue to move ahead into a new year of activity in the life of the Lodge it is plain to see that the Worshipful

Master has a calendar planned which will provide many opportunities for us all to grow as Masons. As the supervisors

of our refreshment, the Stewards and I will be doing our best to enhance and enrich each of these activities to the best

of our ability. If anyone has any suggestions or specific requests in the area of hospitality and/or refreshment please

don’t hesitate to discuss with me or the Stewards.

I will also take this opportunity to remind all of my Brothers to please plan to attend any of the events, which your

schedule will permit, planned for the weekend of April 29-30, 2017, celebrating the 240th Anniversary of the Battle of

Ridgefield. There will be various presentations throughout the course of the weekend including a battle reenactment,

a ceremonial salute to our Brother Gen. David Wooster who perished there, and many other 18th century life

demonstrations. The weekend is being sponsored by our Brothers of Jerusalem Lodge #49 and RWB Albin and I will be

taking active roles with our 18th century unit in various capacities. Come out and join the fun, and learn!
