Admission requirements

Academic background:

Bachelor of Political and Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Law, Bachelor in Economics, Bachelor in European Studies; Bachelor in Educational Sciences; Bachelor in Theology

Any Master degree in Humanities

A Master degree in other disciplines, if the candidate has professional experience in the field of study of MAES.

Candidates are required to submit a Curriculum Vitae, academic results and motivation letter (max. 500 words).

We highly advice that only students who obtained at least 'cum laude' ('honours' / 'with distinction' / 'onderscheiding') apply.

• An evidence of proficiency in the English language is not required fornative English speakers or for students who successfully finalised a full-time study programme of at least one year at a university in an Anglo-Saxon country.

• Students who follow the Master in European Studies: Transnationale enMondiale Perspectieven should be able to read academic literature inDutch and English and preferably French and German.

Required preliminary knowledgeGeneral European knowledge

MAES is a specialised and demanding Master degree. A general knowledge of Europe, European history and European integration is already demanded when students enter the programme.

Students who intend to follow Module I should have a good knowledge of European history and culture

Students who intend to follow Module II should have a good knowledge of the history, institutional and legal framework, and policies of the EU, as well as of European integration theories

Students who intend to follow Module III, IV or V should have a good knowledge of European history and culture, the EU, and global history

If you did not obtain this preliminary knowledge through your previous academic studies you should prepare yourself through personal study before the start of the academic year.
