Two Different Degree Audits – Which one are you?

The following slides will show you examples of two different degree audits side by side. It is your responsibility to know which audit applies to you.

1. Standard Transfer Degree Audit - for all students that are not participating in the MassTransfer Program as outlined in #2.

2. MassTransfer Degree Audit

MassTransfer is for students who complete a specific 34 credit block of courses known as the MassTransfer Block, and are transferring from one of the 29 public institutions in the State of Massachusetts. It is your responsibility to know if you qualify for MassTransfer. If you are not sure, check with your transfer institution.

To learn more about MassTransfer go to the Transfer Central Web site and click on Massachusetts State Transfer Programs.

Note: If you are part of the MassTransfer program and you have a standard degree audit rather than a MassTransfer degree audit it may be because the Office of Admissions does not have your final transcript with the MassTransfer qualifier “MassTransfer Block Complete,” on it. Until we receive that information we cannot code you as MassTransfer participant. If you fall into this category, be sure to have your final transcript sent as soon as possible and follow the MassTransfer guidelines described in the Core Skills section. DO NOT take any core classes other than the two required courses outlined in the MassTransfer document provided for you in the Online Orientation under Core Curriculum Requirements.

Section I (Program Evaluation)

1. Your Major is listed here.

2. Catalog Year (Date you matriculated to Bridgewater State University).

3. Graduation Requirement (You need a total of 120 credits to graduate.)

4. Credits toward Graduation (includes courses for which you are currently registered and credits earned)

5. Transfer credits : You may transfer up to 90 credits from a four-year institution, but only 69 from a two-year institution. If you

are transferring 80-90 credits, it is important that you contact the Transfer Center to discuss your remaining requirements.

6. Credit hours in which you are currently enrolled (12 or more = full-time).

Important Information 1. When reviewing your degree audit, you should remember that your last

semester’s courses are not on your degree audit until your final transcript

has been received in the Office of Admissions. It is a good idea to follow-

up with the Office of Admissions to be sure your final transcript arrived.

2. Do not sign up for a course you have already taken until you receive

clarification. If you transferred a course that you believe satisfies a major

requirement and it is in the “free electives” category, you will need to follow

the appeal process and meet with your major department chairperson. The

appeal process is located on the Transfer Central Web site at:

http://www.bridgew.edu/transfercentral.

3. If you transferred a course that you believe satisfies a CORE requirement

and it is in the “free electives” category, you will need to follow the appeal

process. The appeal process is located on the Transfer Central Web site

at: http://www.bridgew.edu/transfercentral.

Page 13: MassTransfer Degree Audit - Bridgewater State University · your final transcript with the MassTransfer qualifier ... H uma nitie s a nd So ci a l Sci e nce ... Standard Transfer

Important Information (continued)

4. If you are a MassTransfer student transferring from one of our 29 public

institutions in the State of Massachusetts, be sure you take advantage of all

the benefits of MassTransfer.

5. Courses in the Core Skills Section (section II on the degree audit) cannot be

used to fulfill any other section requirements. 6. Courses in all other sections (III-VIIII) of the Core Curriculum can be used to

fulfill multiple requirements.

7. If you are transferring with 80-90 credits, it is a good idea to consult the Transfer

Center to be sure all of your credits are applied effectively.

8. In order to graduate, you must complete a minimum of 120 credits, satisfy all of

the Core and major requirements, as well as a minor if applicable.

Page 14: MassTransfer Degree Audit - Bridgewater State University · your final transcript with the MassTransfer qualifier ... H uma nitie s a nd So ci a l Sci e nce ... Standard Transfer

Important Information

9. Use the Core Curriculum Guide(s) to select courses for the Core

Curriculum. These guides will help you select courses that fulfill

multiple requirements. There are three guides to select from; each

offering a different format. Chose which one is right for you.

http://www.bridgew.edu/corecurriculum .

10. Now that you are a matriculated BSU student, you may not take

courses at another institution without getting prior approval.

Contact the Transfer Center if you have any questions

Note: It is a good idea to check your degree audit after you register. If

you register for a course and it is shows up in the free elective column,

you have not chosen a course that satisfies a core or major requirement

and you should speak to your advisor about your selection.

Page 15: MassTransfer Degree Audit - Bridgewater State University · your final transcript with the MassTransfer qualifier ... H uma nitie s a nd So ci a l Sci e nce ... Standard Transfer
