From the Pastor… My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, One of the delights of reading about the life of Jesus in the Gospel stories is that in each of them, there is a variety of recollections. De-spite that, all four of the Gospels include the amazing story of Jesus’ feeding the multitude, with just a small amount of bread and fish. That fact is a clear indication that this was an important event for those first believers, capturing as it does, Jesus’ concern for both the temporal and the spiritual needs of mankind. This miraculous feat was not done so as to create some kind of spectacle to enhance Jesus’ fame or popularity. But rather, it was done as an occasion for Jesus to demonstrate that His followers are to be known and distinguished by their loving compassion, resourcefulness, and generosity. The Church treasures this story because it captures the way in which Jesus challenged his disciples to face a prob-lem and not ignore it. Now the disciples were shocked by what Jesus was suggesting, because, like many of us, they approached problems from a defeatist position. ‘We have only five loaves of bread and two fish here’… we don’t have enough, we can’t do this, it is out of the question, so why should we even try? But Jesus wanted his disciples to think…not in terms of what they lacked, but rather, in terms of what God had given them. The message in our Gospel lesson is that if we are ready to embrace a challenge, bringing forward what we have, no matter how little, then God will do the rest. As Christians, we have helped launch different endeav-ors over the years; mounted a ministry of outreach, broken ground for a new building, and the like … not because we had the money in the bank but because we had the vision. We sensed the need, and we were willing to trust that God would provide. Since we cannot know precisely what happened on that mountain, we must simply remember that this story took on profound importance for the Early Church and today’s, with such clarity of mission, as: • It is a sharp reminder that individual Christians must

be there for others. They must never be so wrapped up in their own problems or concerns that they retreat from duty and refuse to provide help and support when others are in need. Left alone we can easily think like the disciples and say, ‘Send them away … they are not our concern’. But this is not an attitude our Lord will accept. He calls us to be generous and share.

• It is a clear call for us to be a compassionate people and a compassionate Church, which hears the cries of the needy and responds to those needs, no matter what. It matters not whether they are like us or not, members of our families or not, or people of our ethnic back-ground or not. If they are in need we must provide! It also reminds us, as God’s instruments, that all people deserve our concern, simply by virtue of their want.

The Love of God is like a parent with open, welcoming arms. The Love of God is like a mother who has fixed a meal that provides enough for all who are hungry. I wish you all a blessed week ahead. ~Fr. Edison Bernavas I.C.

August 2, 2020 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A 4 Gospel Matthew 14:13–21 When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food your-selves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not count-ing women and children.

Stewardship Reflections “Jesus said to them, ‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves’.” (Matthew 14:16) This is what Jesus said right before he fed the five thousand men. How often do we really place our trust in Jesus when the situation looks grim? With Jesus, no gift is too small or insig-nificant when offered with love. But, we have to do our part. Heaven Speaks to those struggling to Forgive St. Faustina Oh my, how we suffer on earth. We are so very woundable, are we not? Our humanity makes us vulnerable and we are subject to pain. My friends, Jesus wishes to heal you from the injuries levied against you. It is possible that you are suffer-ing from pains that were inflicted in the past. At this time, Jesus is allotting a torrent of graces because He wants His little ones to be at peace. If a person is at peace, that person can serve God with very little self-will. There are different periods in the history of this world. At different times, Jesus sends different graces, always considering the appropriateness of the grace for the time. In other words, Jesus knows what His people require and gives accordingly. At this time, the Lord sees that souls are in distress. The great darkness has obscured the usual process of acceptance for others and many carry heavy burdens that they should have cast off already. There is a preoccupation with self that precludes God’s children from con-sidering the struggles of others. This preoccupation has inhibited spiritual healing for many. Jesus wills at this time to send heavenly help that will shake God’s children out of this fog. You have been hurt by others. Heaven knows this. Now it is time to forgive those who have hurt you. Jesus is all mercy, it is true, but God is also all justice. Those who have hurt you will be held accountable. Do you want this? Do you desire it? My friend, nobody escapes divine justice. Where does that fact place you in terms of the sins you have committed? Are you free from sin? Have you hurt anyone in your past? Be honest and I will ask God to illuminate your soul for you because you are in the same boat as those who have hurt you in terms of being held accountable for sins committed. Perhaps you have been injured grievously. Perhaps the evil committed against you far exceeds anything you have ever done wrong. Be at peace. God will make all wrongs right and the ones who hurt you will have to deal with their own process. We are concerned with your growth today and your growth will be stunt-ed if you do not accept forgiveness into your heart. You need bring nothing to this process but willingness. Tell Jesus that you are willing and He will begin His work. If you are not willing, I understand that, also. In that case you must ask Jesus to give you willingness. Jesus loves this prayer. Do not think it makes you unworthy of the process. You say, “Jesus, I am too angry, too hurt. You will have to heal me enough so that I can even allow such a process to begin.” The heart of Jesus rejoices in this and He tells the Father that, truly, this is a soul in which He can work. In other words, I am telling you that there is no reason to persist in bitterness. It is time to let it go. We will support you and sustain you. Sor Faustina Oh, cómo sufrimos en la tierra. Estamos muy muy heridos, ¿no es así? Nuestra humanidad nos hace vulnerables y esta-mos sujetos al dolor. Mi amigo, Jesús desea curarte de lesiones que alguien te ha ocasionado. Es posible que sufras dolo-res infligidos en el pasado. En este momento, Jesús está enviando un torrente de gracias porque quiere que su pequeño estén en paz. Si una persona no está en paz, esa persona puede servir a Dios con muy poca voluntad propia. Hay diferen-tes períodos en la historia de este mundo. En diferentes momentos, Jesús envía diferentes gracias, siempre considerando lo apropiado de la gracia para cada tiempo. En otras palabras, Jesús sabe lo que su pueblo necesita y se los da. En este momento, el Señor ve que las almas están en apuros. Muchos llevan cargas pesadas que deberían haber soltado ya. Solo hay preocupación por uno mismo que excluye a Dios y las criaturas no consideran las luchas de los demás. Esto ha dete-nido la curación espiritual para muchos. Jesús quiere enviar ayuda celestial que sacudirá y sacara a los hijos de Dios de esta niebla. Has sido lastimado por alguien y el cielo lo sabe. Ahora es el tiempo de perdonar a los que te han lastimado. Jesús es todo misericordia, es verdad, pero Dios también es todo justicia. Los que te han lastimado serán retenidos ¿Quieres esto? Tu deseas ¿Eso? Amigo mío, nadie escapa a la justicia divina. ¿Dónde ubicas ese hecho en términos de pecados que has cometido? ¿Estás libre de pecado? ¿Has lastimado a alguien? Se honesto y le pediré a Dios que ilumine tu alma porque estás en el mismo barco como aquel que te ha herido en términos de ser responsabilizado por los pecados cometidos. Quizás has sido gravemente herido. Quizás el mal cometido contra ti supera con creces cualquier cosa que alguna vez has hecho mal. Ten paz. Dios corregirá todos los errores y los que te han causado dolor tendrán que lidiar con su propio proceso. Me preocupo por ti y tu crecimiento. Se verá afectado si no aceptas el perdón en tu corazón. Dile a Jesús que estás dispuesto y Él comenzará Su trabajo. Si no estás dispuesto, entiendo eso también. En ese caso debes pe-dirle a Jesús que te de voluntad. Jesús ama esta oración. Hazla. No creo que te haga indigno del proceso. Solo dile: “Jesús, estoy demasiado enojado, demasiado dolido. Tú tendrás que curarme lo suficiente para que pueda permitir que tal proceso comience”. El corazón de Jesús se regocija en esto y le dice al Padre que, verdaderamente, este es un alma en la que Él puede trabajar. En otras palabras, te digo que no hay razón para persistir en la amargura. Es hora de soltarlo. Vamos. Te apoyaremos y te sostendremos.

Una de las delicias de leer sobre la vida de Jesús en las historias del Evangelio es que en cada una de ellas, hay una variedad de recuer-dos. A pesar de eso, los cuatro Evangelios incluyen la in-creíble historia de Jesús alimentando a la multitud, con una pequeña cantidad de pan y pescado. Ese hecho es una clara indicación de que este fue un evento importante para aque-llos primeros creyentes, al capturar como lo hacía y su preocupación por las necesidades temporales y espirituales de la humanidad. Esta hazaña milagrosa no se hizo para crear algún tipo de espectáculo para mejorar la fama o popularidad de Jesús. Más bien, era una ocasión para que Jesús demostrara que Sus seguidores deben ser conocidos y distinguidos por su amorosa compasión, ingenio y generosidad. La Iglesia atesora esta historia porque captura la forma en que Jesús desafió a sus discípulos a enfrentar un problema y no ignorarlo. Ahora los discípulos estaban conmocionados por lo que Jesús estaba sugiriendo, porque, como muchos de nosotros, abordaban los problemas desde una posición de-rrotista. “Tenemos solo cinco pedazos de pan y dos pe-ces…”no tenemos suficiente, no podremos hacerlo, está fuera de discusión, entonces, ¿por qué deberíamos intentar-lo? Pero Jesús quería que sus discípulos pensaran... no en tér-minos de lo que les faltaba, sino en términos de lo que Dios les había dado. El mensaje del día de hoy del Evangelio es que si estamos listos para aceptar un desafío, ofreciendo lo que tenemos, no importa cuán poco sea y Dios hará el resto. Como cristianos, hemos ayudado a lanzar diferentes es-fuerzos a lo largo de los años; monté un ministerio de divul-gación, construimos un nuevo edificio y cosas por el estilo... no porque teníamos el dinero en el banco sino porque tenía-mos la visión. Sentimos la necesidad, y estábamos dispues-tos a confiar en que Dios proveería. Dado que no podemos saber con precisión lo que sucedió en esa montaña, simple-mente debemos recordar que esta historia adquirió una im-portancia profunda para la Iglesia Primitiva y la de hoy, con tal claridad de misión, como: • Es un claro recordatorio de que los cristianos individua-

les deben estar allí para los demás. Nunca debemos es-tar tan envueltos en nuestros propios problemas o preo-cupaciones que nos retiren del deber y nos hace negar a proporcionar ayuda y apoyo cuando otros lo necesiten. Dejándolos solos, podemos pensar fácilmente como los discípulos y decir: "Envíelos lejos... no son nuestra preocupación". Pero esta no es una actitud que nuestro Señor aceptará. Nos llama a ser generosos y compartir.

• Es un claro llamado para que seamos un pueblo compa-sivo y una Iglesia compasiva, que escucha los gritos de los necesitados y responde a esas necesidades, pase lo que pase. No importa si son como nosotros o no, miem-bros de nuestra familia o no, o personas de nuestro ori-gen étnico o no. Si están en necesidad, debemos ayudar! También nos recuerda, como instrumentos de Dios, que todas las personas merecen nuestra preocupación, sim-plemente en virtud de su necesidad.

El amor de Dios es como un padre con los brazos abiertos y acogedores. El amor de Dios es también, como una madre que ha preparado una comida que es suficiente para todos los que tienen hambre. Les deseo a todos una bendecida semana. Párroco, Edison Bernavas I.C.

Bienvenidos a San Francisco de Asís! Les damos una especial bienvenida a todos los visitantes y nuevos feligreses que han venido hoy a celebrar la Misa con nosotros. Lecturas de Hoy

Primera Lectura Isaías 55, 1–3 Esto dice el Señor: “Todos ustedes, los que tienen sed, vengan por agua; y los que no tienen dinero, vengan, tomen trigo y coman; tomen vino y leche sin pagar. ¿Por qué gastar el dinero en lo que no es pan y el salario, en lo que no alimenta? Escúchenme atentos y comerán bien, saborearán platillos sustanciosos. Préstenme atención, vengan a mí, escúchenme y vivirán. Sellaré con ustedes una alianza perpetua, cumpliré las promesas que hice a David”.

Segunda Lectura Romanos 8, 35. 37–39 Hermanos: ¿Qué cosa podrá apartarnos del amor con que nos ama Cristo? ¿Las tribulaciones? ¿Las angustias? ¿La persecución? ¿El hambre? ¿La desnudez? ¿El peligro? ¿La espada? Ciertamente de todo esto salimos más que victoriosos, gra-cias a aquel que nos ha amado; pues estoy convencido de que ni la muerte ni la vida, ni los ángeles ni los demonios, ni el presente ni el futuro, ni los poderes de este mundo, ni lo alto ni lo bajo, ni creatura alguna podrá apartarnos del amor que nos ha manifestado Dios en Cristo Jesús.

Evangelio Mateo 14, 13–21 En aquel tiempo, al enterarse Jesús de la muerte de Juan el Bautista, subió a una barca y se dirigió a un lugar apartado y solitario. Al saberlo la gente, lo siguió por tierra desde los pueblos. Cuando Jesús desembarcó, vio aquella muche-dumbre, se compadeció de ella y curó a los enfermos. Como ya se hacía tarde, se acercaron sus discípulos a de-cirle: “Estamos en despoblado y empieza a oscurecer. Des-pide a la gente para que vayan a los caseríos y compren algo de comer”. Pero Jesús les replicó: “No hace falta que vayan. Denles ustedes de comer”. Ellos le contestaron: “No tenemos aquí más que cinco panes y dos pescados”. Él les dijo: “Tráiganmelos”. Luego mandó que la gente se sentara sobre el pasto. Tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados, y mirando al cielo, pro-nunció una bendición, partió los panes y se los dio a los discípulos para que los distribuyeran a la gente. Todos co-mieron hasta saciarse, y con los pedazos que habían sobra-do, se llenaron doce canastos. Los que comieron eran unos cinco mil hombres, sin contar a las mujeres y a los niños.

Reflexiones de la Biblia “Jesús les dijo:‘ No hay necesidad de que se vayan; den-les algo de comer ". (Mateo 14:16) Esto es lo que Jesús dijo justo antes de alimentar a los cinco mil hombres. ¿Con qué frecuencia confiamos real-mente en Jesús cuando la situación parece sombría? Con Jesús, ningún regalo es demasiado pequeño o insignifi-cante cuando se ofrece con amor. Pero, tenemos que ha-cer nuestra parte. Debemos confiar en que Jesús propor-cionará todo lo que necesitamos. Necesitamos creer que Jesús tiene un mejor plan reservado para nosotros.

Oración para Pedir Protección en la Temporada de Huracanes

Oh Dios, Maestro de este mundo pasajero,

escucha las voces humildes de tus hijos e hijas. El mar de Galilea obedeció tu orden y volvió a su

antigua quietud. Todavía eres el Maestro de la tierra y del mar.

Vivimos bajo la sombra de un gran peligro sobre el cual no tenemos control: el golfo, que como enojado e irritado

gigante, puede despertar de su aparente letargo, sobrepasar sus límites convencionales, e invadir nuestra

tierra, creando caos y desastres. Durante esta temporada de huracanes nos dirigimos a ti,

oh Padre amoroso. Evítanos revivir las tragedias pasadas cuyos recuerdos es-tán aún tan frescos en nuestra memoria y cuyas heridas

parecen rehusarse a sanar con el paso del tiempo. Oh Virgen, Estrella del Mar, nuestra amada Madre,

te pedimos que implores con tu Hijo en nuestro favor, para que se digne librarnos de las calamidades comunes a esta área y nos conceda un verdadero espíritu de gratitud, para poder seguir los pasos de tu divino Hijo y así llegar a la Jerusalén celestial, donde nos espera una eternidad sin

Sobres para la Ofrenda ¿Por qué es tan importante usar los sobres de oferto-rio? El uso regular de sobres nos ayudará cuando llegue el momento de la preparación sacramental, como pare-jas que desean casarse, padres que desean bautizar a un hijo, certificados de patrocinio para sacra-mentos y cartas de permiso especial para bautizos y matrimonios. Además, las declaraciones de contribución para donaciones monetarias solo pueden emitirse a aquellos feligreses que usan sus sobres. Utilice su sobre, VACÍO o con su ofrenda, cada vez que asista a misa. Colóquelos en la canasta del ofer-torio para que se pueda registrar su asistencia. ¿Sabía que solo aproximadamente el 35% de los feligreses re-gistrados usan sus sobres cada semana? ¡No olvide usar sus sobres para asegurarse de ser contado! Si no esta seguro de estar registrado pregunte en la oficina.
