Minutes of the Finance Council Meeting of March 19,

2015

The annual School Fundraiser, held at Bethesda Country Club, grossed $89,000. Discussions regarding the venue and general operations for next year’‛s event are on-going. The Vesperoni Scholarship will provide for an annual distribution of proceeds to qualified St. Bart’‛s students. The Investment Committee reviewed the positions of the Youth and Education Fund as of February month-end. The diversified ETF accounts (60% equities and 40% fixed income) reflected the overall positive performance of the market. The parish financial statements for February month-end were also presented and the accounts are within budget. The parish successfully met this year’‛s high snow removal cost of $15,000 through our regular operating budget. There has been a modest increase in the participation level of the Faith Direct Program. Currently, approximately 10% of registered families support our parish through automatic payments from a bank account or charges to a credit/debit card. This revenue stream off-set the lower in-pew Sunday Offertory collections in February when Mass attendance was lower than usual due to adverse weather and driving conditions. Fr. Mark noted that contracts for a new sound system for the Church Hall and for replacement windows in the front of the school are being considered. The 2015 Cardinal’‛s Appeal pledges have exceeded our parish goal;; Fr. expressed his gratitude for the generosity of so many individual contributors as well as the high level of participation. In consultation with other professionals, the pastor continues to update and revise our master plan for the parish grounds. The next Finance Council meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2015 at 7.00 a.m. in the rectory.

The Meditative Prayer Group, led by Roger Oussoren, (normally scheduled to meet the first Thursday of each month) will meet Thursday, April 16 at 7.30 p.m.-9.00 p.m. in the Rectory Conference Room. The date has changed because of Holy Week. If you are interested in attending, or have any questions, please call Roger at 240-793-5737 or email him at [email protected].

St. Bart's Youth Group: we are a group devoted to learning that our Faith is not about rules but about experiencing true happiness and growing into the best-version of ourselves by simply doing and loving the good things of life! Youth between 5th grade and 10th grade are always welcome! If you would like to learn more please email: Maria Kaufmann, [email protected]. Thought of the week: We humans are created in God’‛s image and likeness, and He has never changed His mind about us. We have absolutely everything within us to be the men and women He made us to be. And that is very, very good. We are very, very good. -from Woman of Strength Looking ahead...3/29 Lent Craft event 5:45- 7:45pm The group will meet at the gym (if there is a game we will meet in the classroom). The group will be making stations of the cross with individual shrines for our adoration chapel. Dinner will be provided! 4/2 Spring break- No Youth Group.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION Volunteer Opportunity - be a personal shopper! The Father McKenna Center, a day shelter for homeless men needs volunteers to help with our clothing closet. Commitment: 2 hours once per month (Tuesday mornings 9-11 am). Task: assist the homeless “shop” for much needed clothing. To volunteer, call Ned Hogan at 202-842-1112 x104 or email [email protected]. Blessing of Easter Food Baskets - one of the beautiful customs which Eastern European immigrants brought to this country is the blessing of Easter food baskets on Holy Saturday. This is a wonderful tradition to celebrate in every Catholic family. On Holy Saturday morning, April 4th, promptly at 9:30 am, we will celebrate our annual Blessing of Easter Food Baskets at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 917 Montrose Road, Rockville, MD 20852. All are invited to participate in this brief blessing service to celebrate our new baptismal life this Easter. 2015 Annual Jubilarian Mass – Cardinal Donald Wuerl will celebrate the annual Jubilarian Mass honoring Couples married 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 51+ years on Sunday, June 21 at 2.00 p.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Please call the parish office at 301-229-7933. Names of jubilarians need to be turned in to the office no later than Monday, April 13. Current and former Catholic Terps, friends, and family are invited to the 50th Anniversary Celebration of The Catholic Student Center at the University of Maryland on Saturday April 25th. This fun and family-friendly event begins with Mass at 5pm, followed by a pig roast, BBQ dinner, raffle items and much more! Tickets are required. Visit http://CatholicTerps.org for more information.

Good Friday Collection - our parish will support Christians in the Holy land through Good Friday’‛s Collection (April 3). Please support our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land by giving to this Special Collection. This pontifical collection allows for care of Christianity’‛s holiest sites and for God’‛s people living in the Holy Land.
