Samuel does not recognize God’s voice, but he is alert and obedient, listening and ready for action. We hear that he ran when called, and another time he rose. Eli gives Samuel the correct response:

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. We live in a world of noise and distraction. Are we ready to answer? Can we even hear?

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS HAVE BEEN PUT AWAY, the

green banners have been hung and we are now in ‘Ordinary Time’ in

our Liturgical year.

ORDINARY TIME is from the end of the Christmas season until Ash

Wednesday and from the day after Pentecost until Evening Prayer of

the First Sunday of Advent. Ordinary Time is the time after a feast

when we use the grace we have received to grow in faith and love. Each

Sunday in Ordinary Time has a number, so that we can count them.

The numbers increase each week, just as the joy and love in our hearts

increases, as we ponder the mystery of Jesus Christ, son of Mary and

Son of God.

FEASTDAY CELEBRATIONS - NEXT WEEKEND we will be celebrating St. Agnes Feast Day (St. Agnes is the Patron Saint of our Parish.) Join us for refreshments after Mass. MONDAY, JANUARY 22nd is the FEAST OF ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI – founder of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers).Our St. Agnes Parish has been served by the Pallottine Fathers since its inception in 1967. by the blessing.

This sacrament is used for all who are gravely ill, those about to undergo a

serious operation, anyone who feels a need for healing physically, emotionally, spiritually,

psychologically – illness of any sort

The Church stresses a secondary effect of the sacrament:

to help a person recover his health.

Like Confession and Holy Communion, to which it is closely

linked, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be repeated

as often as is necessary.
