AWARDS IN MASONRY
Submission Deadline: July 17, 2019ELIGIBILITY
Iowa licensed architects with AIA, Iowa, membership may submit projects. All submissions must be predominantly masonry completed within the last six years in Iowa. Commercial, residential, extended use and restoration projects will be considered. Past award winning projects are not eligible although past entries are encouraged to submit again.
AWARPS
All entries will be recognized at the AIA, Iowa Annual Convention on Friday, September 27, 2019. Prior to the awards ceremony, entries will be notified if they will be receiving an award.
As in past years, the Masonry Institute of Iowa will award the following: • Grand Award• Award of Merit with Distinction• Award with Merit• Honorable Mentions
The Masonry Institute of Iowa is also introducing several new awards for 2017: • Best specific use of a masonry material• Interior use of masonry• Restoration projects• People's choice

All entries must comply
with ASTM C1232:
"masonry: the type of
construction made up of
manufactured masonry
units laid with mortar,
grout, or other methods
of joining" to qualify.
SUBMISSION Each project submitted must provide photos and/or drawings to illustrate the masonry design, workmanship and installation details. Entries can be submitted on CD, flash drive or zip attachment emailed to jstephenson@ masonryinstituteofiowa.org. Upload your files and submit the entry fee online at www.masonryinstituteofiowa.org (under Awards).
Photos and drawings should include, at a minimum: • One view of each of the four exposed sides or elevations of the project• At least six close-up views of masonry details (the detail photos should clearly show the type of
masonry system used)• One view of the project's immediate environment• One view of the wall section
Entrants may submit more than the minimum photos required and are encouraged to submit plan details.
Mail or digitally submit the attached Photo Consent and Submittal Form with $50 payment per entry to Masonry Institute of Iowa. A confirmation email will be sent for all entries. Entries will be reviewed by the committee to validate entry prior to judging. Entry deadline is July 17th, 2019.

JUDGING All entries are judged by architects from outside Iowa. Projects are evaluated independently, not in competition with other entries, and will focus on the excellence of each individual project. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
• Creative use of masonry• Structural and architectural design• Proper masonry installation by a mason contractor• Technical innovations and their influence on design selection• Suitability of design to its environment
