FISH BITES Miami and Atlanta play the opener of this three-game weekend set tonight at 7:10 p.m., the final home series of the season for the Marlins. Right-hander Jose Fernandez, who is looking to extend his three-game winning streak against the Braves, gets the nod for Miami; he is 3-1 with a 1.32 ERA (34.0 ip/5 er) in five career starts against Atlanta. Rookie right-hander Ryan Weber will take the mound for the Braves, making his fourth career start and first against the Marlins. Miami, which opened the homestand against Philadelphia (2-1), returned home following a seven-game road trip that took the Club to the Mets (2-1) and Nationals (1-3). Following this series, the Marlins wrap up their season with a six-game road trip to Tampa Bay (September 29- October 1) and Philadelphia (Oct. 2-4). VS. THE BRAVES Miami has gone just 6-10 against Atlanta this year, but is currently enjoying a four-game winning streak over the Braves, all at Turner Field. The Fish are 0-6 against the Braves at home this season and 84-100 all-time (9-25 at Marlins Park). Atlanta leads the overall series, 218-156. LAST NIGHT The Marlins used two timely hits in the seventh inning and a combined shutout by six pitchers to down the Phillies, 1-0. It was the second 1-0 victory of the season for Miami. With one out in the seventh, Derek Dietrich reached on an infield single and J.T. Realmuto followed with an RBI triple to plate the winning run. Starter Jarred Cosart tossed 4.0 scoreless innings before exiting with a left forearm contusion in the fifth. Jose Ureña, Chris Narveson, Bryan Morris, Mike Dunn and A.J. Ramos combined for 5.0 innings of relief, with Morris (5-3) picking up the win and Ramos converting his 29 th save. GOING ALL OUT FOR THE SHUTOUT Jarred Cosart and five Miami relievers combined for a 1-0 victory over the Phillies at Marlins Park last night. It was the second nine-inning 1-0 shutout in the Majors this season in which the winning team used six pitchers, and in the previous instance the Phillies were also the losing side. On July 21, Nathan Karns and five Rays relievers won 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park while limiting the Phillies to four hits. - Elias According to Stats, LLC, the six pitchers used by Miami tied a Club record for most pitchers used in a shutout, and marked the fifth time it has been done in Franchise history. It last happened on July 11, 2010 at Arizona. The other three times were: July 17, 2007 vs. St. Louis, June 4, 2002 at Philadelphia and May 15, 1994 at the Cubs. ELIAS SAYS... THE JOSE EDITION Jose Fernandez is 16-0 in his career at Marlins Park, tying Johnny Allen (1932-33) and LaMarr Hoyt (1980-82) for the most home decisions without a loss to start a career since 1900. He is only the second pitcher in Major League history to win his first 15-plus home decisions as a starting pitcher, joining Bill Hoffer, who did it 120 years ago, in 1895, for the old Baltimore Orioles of the National League. Fernandez had already held the record for most home starts without a loss from the beginning of his career - the previous high had been 21 by the Expos’ David Palmer - but only five pitchers prior to Fernandez have recorded 25 straight home starts without a loss at any point of their Major-League careers. The others are Kenny Rogers (38, 1997-2000 for the Yankees, A’s, Mets, and Rangers), Zack Greinke (29, 2010-2012 for the Royals and Brewers), Lefty Grove (28, 1938-1941 for the Red Sox), Tommy Greene (27, 1991-1994 for the Phillies), and Ray Kremer (26, 1926-1927 for the Pirates). Fernandez owns a 1.11 ERA in his 25 starts at home. Among players to debut since earned runs became an official statistic in 1912 (N.L.) and 1913 (A.L.), only Ferdie Schupp had a lower ERA in his first 25 home starts - Schupp posted a 1.05 ERA in his first 25 home starts for the New York Giants from 1913-1917. Among players to debut in the live ball era (since 1920), Fernandez’s 1.11 ERA in his first 25 home starts is by far the lowest, below Vida Blue (1.40), Ewell Blackwell (1.56), Jerry Koosman (1.62), and Dwight Gooden (1.71). KEEPING IT REAL J.T. Realmuto recorded his team-leading seventh triple of the season last night, a new Club record for a catcher. Benito Santiago previously held the record, hitting six triples in 1993. The last catcher with seven-or-more triples in a season was Darrell Porter, who hit eight for the Kansas City Royals in 1979. Realmuto keeps improving on his impressive rookie campaign. He already holds the Franchise records for a rookie catcher in the following categories: games played (112), runs (45), hits (106), doubles (18), triples (7) and RBI (46). His current .257 average would surpass Charles Johnson’s .251 mark in 1995. Realmuto (10) is also one home run away from tying Johnson for the Club mark by a rookie catcher. His 106 hits are the most by a rookie catcher since Geovany Soto recorded 137 in 2008 for the Chicago Cubs. BIG BANG THEORY Justin Bour hit his 19 th home run of the season on Wednesday, which ranks tied for third with Carlos Correa among Major League rookies, behind Kris Bryant (26) and Joc Pederson (25). It’s the most HR by a Marlins’ rookie since Giancarlo Stanton (22) and Gaby Sanchez (19) in 2010, and ranks tied for sixth all-time, behind Dan Uggla (27 in 2006). Bour also owns 63 RBI this season, good for fourth among Major League rookies, behind Bryant (98), Matt Duffy (71) and Mark Canha (66). The last Marlins rookie with 63-or-more RBI in a season was Gaby Sanchez in 2010 (85). Uggla owns the all-time mark with 90 RBI in 2006. FIGHTING FISH The Marlins own a 14-8 (.636) record since August 31, which ranks third in the National League, trailing the Cubs (15-8/.652) and Dodgers (15-8/.652). Over that span, the Marlins’ pitching staff owns a 3.65 ERA, good for fifth in the NL, and is holding opponents to a .236 average, good for second in the NL. On the offensive side, Miami’s .282 average (209x742) leads the NL. - Stats, LLC FROM THE #1 SPOT Dee Gordon has recorded 190 hits to go with 53 stolen bases this season, all coming from the leadoff spot. He is the first leadoff hitter to post 190-plus hits and 50- plus stolen bases in a season in Club history, and he is the first National League player to do so since Jose Reyes in 2008 for the New York Mets. Reyes recorded 204 hits and 56 stolen bases that season. Gordon is just nine hits shy of tying Juan Pierre’s Club mark of most hits in a season by the leadoff hitter; Pierre had 199 hits in 2004. - Stats, LLC MARLINS VS. Recorded third win of season after beating Arizona on July 22 at Chase Field. Tossed season-high tying 7.0 innings while striking out season-best 11. Marked first 10+ strikeout game since May 8, 2014 vs. Dodgers (10).

On July 9 vs. Cincinnati, surpassed Montreal’s David Palmer for the longest streak of home starts without a loss to begin a career (since 1914), according to Stats LLC. Also, according to Elias, only Johnny Allen (1932-33) and LaMarr Hoyt (1980-82) have won more home decisions to start a career since 1900, both going 16-0 before taking a loss.

In season debut on July 2 vs. San Francisco, came away victorious after allow-ing three runs on seven hits (one home run) while walking none and striking out six over 6.0 innings. Helped cause with second career home run in second plate appearance.

The three runs allowed in debut snapped streak of 20 straight home starts allowing fewer than three earned runs, which fell one short of Major League record. San Diego’s Andrew Cashner allowed fewer than three earned runs in 21 consecutive home starts from June 2013 to April 2015. One other pitcher did it in 20 straight home starts: Orel Hershiser (April 1985 to April 1986). - Elias
