Market Vs Highstreet I have looked at the retail within Leeds throughout the last century on how they have evolved over the time from local stores to massive markets and massive chain shops. Furthermore the analysis of how competition between market shops and these big chain, such as fashion retails, how smaller stores are being put out of business by large shops such as Topshop or Riverisland, with many stores within Leeds making much more competition, this is without mentioning all the other large stores operating in Leeds. e Leeds Market is an example of this it has 100s of stores which struggle to compete with those bigger chains, the market has seen loads great retailers go out of business due to this. It’s a shame because these market stalls are what has made Leeds over the years and given it such a northern feel and these stores are taking attention away from this. is is an ever growing issue in Leeds, especially with the new Trinity Centre opening which is further taking business from the market, which is dismantling retail businesses not even in the market but also everywhere around Leeds because of the new competi- tion it has brought. is has affected not just retail of fashion. Small food chains, fabric, fragrances, mobile phones and other technology items, which are also being affected by the larger stores, an example is Carphone Warehouse or Debenhams which are also taking competition from the market. So these issues are destroying Leeds small stores by ever growing large retail stores opening and this is also making it harder for the small store culture in Leeds to stay alive. is issue needs to be advertised and taken into account to give smaller companies a fair chance within Leeds to compete with these large stores and so they don’t go out of business.

Market Vs HighstreetI have looked at the retail within Leeds throughout the last century on how they have evolved over the time from local stores to massive markets and massive chain shops. Furthermore the analysis of how competition between market shops and these big chain, such as fashion retails, how smaller stores are being put out of business by large shops such as Topshop or Riverisland, with many stores within Leeds making much more competition, this is without mentioning all the other large stores operating in Leeds.

The Leeds Market is an example of this it has 100s of stores which struggle to compete with those bigger chains, the market has seen loads great retailers go out of business due to this. It’s a shame because these market stalls are what has made Leeds over the years and given it such a northern feel and these stores are taking attention away from this.

This is an ever growing issue in Leeds, especially with the new Trinity Centre opening which is further taking business from the market, which is dismantling retail businesses not even in the market but also everywhere around Leeds because of the new competi-tion it has brought.

This has affected not just retail of fashion.

This issue needs to be advertised and taken into account to give smaller companies a fair chance within Leeds to compete with these large stores and so they don’t go out of business.
