Page 1: Marion Avery Obituary

Marion E. Avery Marion E. (Fortini) Avery, a lifelong Plymouth resident who loved the beach and adored her granddaughter, died Saturday after a short illness. She would have turned 84, Oct. 12, 2013.

She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1947 and went to work for a short time as a secretary at a real estate agency in town. That's where she soon met the man she would

eventually marry (his sister ran the agency) and have three children with.

Among her very favorite places, Plymouth Beach (or any beach, for that matter) and Ernie's Restaurant, where she had been going since it opened just down the hill from her Cherry Street family home when she was in high school. She also loved to read and devoured crossword puzzles, first from the morning paper and later, when that one was finished over breakfast, from puzzle books.

She worked for many years at the Old Colony Credit Bureau on Main Street, as well as at The Cranberry House gift shop on the waterfront. The Old Colony Credit Bureau was founded and operated for decades by her brother, Robert E. Fortini, who died in 2010.

She was the daughter of the late Columbo A. Fortini and Mabel E. (Smith) Fortini; and is survived by three children, Jonathan Avery of Murphy, N.C., Faith Anne Avery of Schaumburg Ill., and Allison Avery of Plymouth; her granddaughter, Taylor Avery of Schaumburg, Ill; a sister, Joan L. Anderson of Plymouth; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the former wife of David B. Avery of Murphy, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, with visiting hours Saturday morning from 11
