The Southern Pine Marketing Council is a joint promotional body which is coordinated and supported by members of the Southern Forest Products Association and the Southeastern Lumber

Manufacturers Association. To fulfill their primary purpose of informing the industry of uses of

Southern Pine Lumber and recognizing the need to fill a void in the availability of technical

information on marine uses for Southern Pine they contracted with JGT to produce a manual on uses of Southern Pine. The result was a 25 page color technical manual which serves as a guide for the

specification and use of Southern Pine in fresh and salt water applications.

JGT served as the technical engineering consultant in the design and production of Section II of the manual: Marine Construction Using Southern Pine. This section covers design concepts and

engineering for water dependent structures including bulkheads, piers, and dock systems. It

discusses site planning and design factor investigation including water level, soils, erosion, structure alignment, backfill, and wall elevation. Photos and details from several JGT projects were included.

The marine construction manual has become an accepted technical source for planning, design, and

specification information for the marine construction application of Southern Pine. The Southern Pine Marketing Council utilizes this manual as one of their main technical publications.
