Mike Marshall & the Turtle Island Quartet, Mike Marshall & the Turtle Island QuartetGrammy award-winning classical crossover group, Turtle Island Quartet, joins forces with mandolinist MikeMarshall for this new recording. This collaboration brings together a long time musical friendship that has beenbrewing for nearly 35 years. Both of these artists have dedicated their lives to bridging the musical gaps betweenjazz, classical, Latin styles and bluegrass. This self-titled record includes an original work by violinist DavidBalakrishnan of Turtle Island Quartet called Interplay, which explores Balakrishnan’s Indian musical heritagethrough the cycle of loss and recovery moving gracefully from 5/4 rhythms that verge on Irish jigs, to placid raga-esque meditations. Darol Anger, e-and’a“At this point, my existence seems to be focused on bringing together different generations of musicians,”confesses Darol Anger. The fiddle virtuoso, founding member of both The David Grisman Quintet and the TurtleIsland (String) Quartet, creator of the Republic of Strings, and associate professor at Berklee College of Music,has done just that for his newest project. The Anger-designed, multigenerational, and progressive string bandsupergroup, e–and’a, is comprised of four generations of acoustic musicians: guitarist Courtney Hartman isalso part of the Grammy-nominated bluegrass outfit Della Mae, Lukas Pool is a fine Scruggs-style player andtwo-time National Old-Time Banjo Champion, and mandolin player/co-producer Joe Walsh (no, not THAT JoeWalsh) spent four years with The Gibson Brothers, the 2012 recipients of the IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award.Sharon Gilchrist – the group’s other veteran – has played bass for everyone from The Dixie Chicks toPeter Rowan and Tony Rice. The Presidents of the United States of America, Kudos To You!Kudos To You! is the 7th full length studio album from Seattle’s The Presidents Of The United States Of America.Since 1994, PUSA has been spreading their skewed and joyous brand of pop to audiences the world over. PUSA hasno idea where this album came from. As “full-time part-timers”, PUSA had thought themselves to be “post album”,enjoying a relaxed and limited touring schedule combined with liberal hammock time. When they booked two dayswith their producer last October there were no expectations, and no material other than singer Chris Ballew’s note-book. Things got out of hand, and a month later, Kudos was tracked. The album is a happy mix of old, new, andbrand spanking new, that should hit right at the soft tissue of fans old and new. Ok, mostly old, but still it’s afun listen and should eventually be purchased by everyone on the planet. Tiécoro Sissoko, Keme BoramaTiécoro Sissoko was an exceptional solo artist and an intricate guitar player from Mali with a true Djeli soulfulvoice. He performed every week with the multi GRAMMY award winning kora player Toumani Diabaté at the famousBamako club, The Diplomat. Throughout his career, Tiécoro toured throughout West Africa and France playingweddings, ceremonies and concerts in Bamako up until the last days of his life. Keme Borama is Tiécoro’s onlyrecording to be released and it’s a testament of his role as Griot and protector of his lineage.
