Intermediate Girls Basketball Team Makes History! On March 8th, our Intermediate Girls Basketball Team played in the York Region Championships. After winning the Regional Championship last year, they set out to become the first team in YRDSB history to repeat as YRDSB Champions in basketball. After rolling through the first three games, the girls fought off Vellore Woods in the semi-finals and LH Frechette in the finals. Our girls achieved the impossible by becoming the first school to repeat as YRDSB Champions! They are proof that hard work, dedication, collaboration and setting high goals can lead to success. Ms. Mullings and I would like to acknowledge Naki A., who although is only in grade 5, shredded defenses with her incredible dribbling ability. Paris G., who took on the role of our team scraper, diving on the floor, banging for rebounds and doing all the dirty work. Iman A., our point guard who had all kinds of pressure to lead our offense and didn't crack under the pressure. Jessica S., who's outside shooting helped us secure the win in the semi-finals as she hit 6 straight shots to help us pull away. Lastly, Tamara K., whose leadership on and off the court is unparalleled. She once again came through when her team needed her most in the finals and she gained many fans from coaches, players and parents throughout the tournament because of her abilities. Up next our Junior Girls will try to follow in the footsteps of our Intermediates. With 6 junior girls who played with the Intermediates, they are going into the season as one of the favourites.
