A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO ENCOURAGE ALL CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND ALL BRANCHES OF SOUTH CAROLINA STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN EARTH HOUR 2010 BY TURNING OFF ALL NONESSENTIAL LIGHTS FOR A ONE-HOUR PERIOD, BEGINNING AT 8:30 P.M. ON SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 2010.

Whereas, World Wildlife Fund has announced that Earth Hour 2010 will take place on Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 8:30-9:30 p.m.; and

Whereas, many iconic United States landmarks such as Mount Rushmore, the Empire State Building, and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge will dim their lights for one hour during what is expected to be the largest call for action on climate change in history; and

Whereas, since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour has enjoyed worldwide participation. In 2009, nearly one billion people in four thousand one hundred cities in eighty-seven countries on seven continents turned off their light switches during Earth Hour; and

Whereas, the General Assembly would like to urge all citizens of this great State, as well as all branches of South Carolina state and local government, to support this global effort. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, encourage all citizens of South Carolina and all
