Come geek out with us and experience what this small computer has to offer. Teens will learn basic computer programming using the super cool tech gadget. Don’t miss out! Sign up now to explore the coolest kind of pi(e) around, the Raspberry Pi! Registration is required and opens on Monday, February 29th at 9 a.m. online or in person. Teen Tech Week BINGO Stop by the Youth Services desk during Teen Tech Week and pick up a BINGO card to complete. Every completed BINGO card will be a raffle ticket for a prize drawing at the end of the week. Cards must be turned in by Saturday, March 12 th at 5 p.m. BINGO is open to teens in 7 th - 12 th grade. Teen Advisory Board & CD Art

Tuesday, March 1st at 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Need to earn service hours? Join our Teen Advisory Board! This is a great opportunity for you to earn hours AND take part in teen services at the library. At each monthly meeting you can share your thoughts and ideas on future teen programming and suggest titles to purchase for the collections. In this meeting teens will be provided with old CDs to destroy and create with.

No registration is necessary, but a Prairie Trails Library card is required.

Tacos & Text: Little Brother

Saturday, March 19th at 1 p.m. Limit: 15 Length: 1 hour Join us for this teen book discussion and some tacos! We will be discussing Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. After being interrogated for days by the Department of Homeland Security in the aftermath of a major terrorist attack on San Francisco, seventeen-year-old Marcus, released into what is now a police state, decides to use his expertise in computer hacking to set things right. Please stop by the Circulation Desk to checkout a copy of the book after you register.

someone aged 16 years or older at all times in the library.

If it is determined that a child has been left unattended and a

responsible party can not be reached, the police will be called.

Music, Movement, & Stories

Thursdays at 10 a.m. Ages: 3-5 years (not yet in Kindergarten), Children at-tend independently Limit: 20 Length: 40 minutes In this preschool storytime, children will have fun with en-gaging books, songs, and activities as they build their ear-ly literacy skills. We recommend that children attend the Music, Movement & Stories (M&MS) program alone, so they can develop the independence necessary for Kindergarten.

After School Club

Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Grades: K – 2nd Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Children in grades K-2 are invited to join us in an after school club where they will read some great stories, participate in projects, crafts, and games.

Family Jam Tales

Every Monday at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages and their families Length: 30 minutes Join us for a storytime designed for the whole family. A wide variety of stories, music, and more will be shared.

No registration is required for this storytime, but space is limited.

March Youth Events

LEGO Zone

Saturday, March 5th at 11 a.m. Ages: 3 -12 years Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes

Imagine, create, and BUILD! Join us for LEGO fun. We provide the Legos, and you provide the imagination. All materials must stay at the library, so parents bring a camera to capture your child’s creations.

Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Baby Bounce

Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Ages: 0 -17 months with a parent or caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Enjoy music, nursery rhymes, and stories with your ba-by as we promote early literacy in our littlest learners. There will also be time for exploration and play while the babies (and grown-ups) get to know one another.

Toddler Time

Tuesdays at 10 a.m. (**No Session Held on Tuesday, March 15th due to Election Day**)

Ages: 18 – 36 months with a parent or caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This interactive storytime will feature short stories, finger plays, action rhymes and songs! Toddlers will develop social interaction with others and help encourage language skills.

Caregiver is strongly encouraged to participate with child.

Storytimes will be in session for six weeks, beginning the week of

and ending the week of Monday, April 18th

Registering for a storytime is a commitment to attend all six weeks of

Tween Scheme

Thursdays at 4 p.m. Grades: 3rd – 6th Limit: 25 Length: 45 minutes Tweens are invited to this hands-on program where we will be crafting, playing games, discussing new books and movies, and maybe even enjoying a snack or two. Each week we’ll do something new and the tweens will get a chance to brainstorm ideas for future tween events at the library!

Donations Needed!

Youth Services is looking for paper towel tubes and plastic lids (large yogurt containers, sour cream, etc.) for upcoming craft programs. If you have any and are looking to do some clearing out, please think of us. All donations can be dropped off in Youth Services. Thank you!

Trip to Ireland

Saturday, March 12th at 11 a.m. Ages: 3 - 12 years Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes We’re taking a pretend trip to Ireland! What a fun way to learn about the country, its people, and the culture! But don’t worry. We’ll fly the airplane back home before lunch time. A flight snack will be provided.

Please notify Youth Services about any allergy concerns.

Tiny Tot Arts: Shapes

Monday, March 14th at 10 a.m. Ages: 18 - 36 months with a parent or caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This hands on program will allow toddlers to explore, discover and manipulate their world. We will sing songs, share a story and design a paper shape quilt!

Minecraft

Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30 p.m. Grades: 2 - 5 Limit: 25 Length: 1 hour Calling all Minecraft fans! Want to show off your skills? Are you ready to meet our Minecraft challenge(s)? Get ready to build, create, and explore the wide world of Minecraft. We’ll have to work together to strategically defeat all of the zombies, spiders, and skeletons!

Dr. Seuss Month-Long Birthday Celebration

During the month of March, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday. We’ll have prizes to give away and fun games to play. Don’t delay, stop in today!

Miniature Gardens using Succulent Plants

Join Kathleen Obirek, landscape designer and educator, as she shows you how to design, plant, and care for a tabletop minia-ture garden. She also will show you the smaller “Itty Bitty” Miniature Garden and the smallest “Micro Mini” Garden. Each of three categories of miniature gardens will be given away to three lucky participants.

This program is limited to 50 participants. This event is free but advance registration is required.

The Music and Influence of Hank Williams

The deepest musical Roots of Americana can be found in the legacy of songs and style that one man and one voice brought to many styles of music. Steve Justman provides an overview of Hank Williams’ body of musical work by a man who became an instant legend and icon before his young death at age 29. Hank Williams’ music and influence is truly amazing in its heartfelt messages of the human experience.

This program is limited to 50 participants. This event is free but advance registration is required.

Love taking pictures or interested in starting a new and crea-tive hobby? Come to the library. We’ll learn how cameras

work, strategies to improve your photography skills, and how to share your photos with loved ones.

Heroes on the Air

Before Little Orphan Annie became a Broadway sensation or the Man of Steel a movie star, they made their way off the page and onto the radio. Join radio historian and Those Were the Days host Steve Darnall for a look at some of the many comic-strip heroes whose adventures brightened up the Golden Age of Radio—and a few heroes who started on radio before mov-ing to the comics.

The Best Nest

Birds are plenty busy in the spring when they start to feather their nests. If you enjoy helping birds in your yard, consider making a nesting wreath filled with materials they can use. Prairie Godmothers will help you make a nesting wreath filled with fibers, twigs, and feath-ers to help your feathered friends along.
