ST. MONICA PRAYED AND WEPT WITH HOPE FOR

THE CONVERSION OF HER HUSBAND AND SON FOR 30 YEARS!

St. Monica Parish was founded in 2013 by Bishop David

Zubik. The clergy and people of four parishes, representing

eight previous parishes, bravely accepted the call of the

Bishop to cooperate as people of faith in the power of the

Holy Spirit to Build a Church that is Alive! Christ has

asked this parish to be born so that the Faith may continue

to be proclaimed and lived in the upper Beaver Valley. The

Holy Eucharist has been praised and adored in this area

since 1854. St. Monica Parish with the assistance of our

Patroness, and her son St. Augustine, will continue to

spread the Catholic faith and to be the light of Christ to all

that we meet.

“So the prodigal son “came to his senses”. Living in a pigpen probably had him on sensory overload!! Hearing the constant oinking, seeing the muck and mire of his new home, feeling that mud between his own little piggies, and tasting the cobs; breakfast of the swinest, probably all got to him. But the smell probably put him over the top!! Pig-sty putrid, muddy mess, garbage goulash!! Though his senses made him think he was a pig; he thought of his father and remembered who he really was. A Beloved son! And his father didn’t let him down. He acknowledged him and rejoiced over him and forgave him. When our senses reveal to us the “pigginess” of our choices, we can meet Our Father in confession. He waits there every day watching to see if we are coming over the hill of our muck and mire to receive His mercy. This Wednesday “The Light is Still On For You” in a special way at our parish, so that you can rec-oncile with your Heavenly Father…follow your senses to it. AMDG: “Your outstretched arms are so much like the wide-spread welcome of the forgiving father open to the repentant prodigal son. I come before your crucifix just like him: starving, poor in my foolishness, laughable in my shame, a beggar, repugnant by every measure……..except yours (MC 117/118)

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Fellow Parishioners:

We could not be prouder of SMCA Academic Games Team. This

year 13 students from SMCA participated in the local Beaver

County Academic Games League competitions in Propaganda,

Presidents, Equations and Linguistics. Getting the opportunity to

participate in these games and spending the extra time required to

prepare for the games is something the students can be proud of.

Of those 13 students, 6 qualified to participate in the Academic

Games Nationals Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia, at the end of

April. These students are Quinn Borroni, Deryn Moye, Bailey Dia-

mond, Mark Hewitt, Trent Lilly and Ben Laderer. To qualify for the

nationals tournament, these students had to receive qualifying

scores in 2 or more of the games listed above. Considering the

amount of students participating in the local tournaments. It is

quite an accomplishment for the students to qualify for nationals.

Now the SMCA Nationals Team is preparing for the tough competi-

tion they will encounter at the nationals tournament. Georgia, here

we come! We are very grateful to our 1st grade teacher, Mrs.

Mineard for the hours she spends coaching these students. THANK

YOU Mrs. Mineard!

Tuesday evening from 5:30—6:30 pm we will hold our Preschool

Open House. We have a “State of the Art” classroom that will im-

press the incoming students and their families. We are very proud

to boast about our facilities and our curriculum. We are very proud

to be a spiritual and superior academic learning institution in the

City of Beaver Falls for the past 126 years! Our reputation proudly

precedes us. So please consider us for your children and grandchil-

dren. We are currently accepting registrations for the 2016-2017

school year in all grades.

Please consider using your Angel Fund envelope that is included in

your weekly church envelopes. We appreciate all donations no

matter how small. The Angel Fund Committee members are to be

admired for their tireless efforts to keep Catholic education alive

and well in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The school relies on their

efforts to help families financially. Our families are very grateful for

the funds that help them meet their tuition responsibilities and

commitments. Our families sacrifice much so that they can send

their children here for the spiritual and academic education that we

offer. We sincerely appreciate all of our donors and supporters.

These students are our future and we can be secure in knowing

they take with them not only the academics but also values, ethics,

and morals to lead us in our future. We are very blessed to be part

of this wonderful school and parish as “the miracle continues.”

As we continue our journey to Easter, let us not forget our Lord’s

suffering for all of us. We are very fortunate to be able to offer to

the parish and community our own reenactment through the Living

Stations. Please consider joining us on Fridays, March 11 and/or 18

in church for this moving presentation. Also, consider joining us on

Friday for our all school Liturgy at 9:00 am in the gym. We love

seeing new faces.

As always, I thank you for your continued support of your parish

school and God Bless,

Mr. Brad Diamond, Principal

THE LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary is an international lay aposto-late, composed of men and women seeking to serve the par-ish and community through the Spiritual Works of Mercy (i.e., religious education, visiting the homebound and impris-oned, friendly evangelization, etc.) and to grow in devotion to Jesus through Mary. We are welcoming new Active (able to attend weekly meetings and complete assigned work) and Auxiliary (offering daily prayer support for the Legion) mem-bers. Please feel free to join us for a meeting Tuesday evenings at 7pm in St. Joseph’s room or contact Ann at 412-401-6056 [email protected]. WOMEN ALIVE IN PRAYER Come, join Saint Monica’s Women Alive in Prayer. There is power and enjoyment in women discussing the Bible read-ings and homily from the previous Mass. We learn about Jesus, we share different books and authors. We pray for each other and others. If you have a need or a problem, bring it to the group. Or get to know a woman in the group and talk to her after the meeting. We meet the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at 7pm in St. Joseph’s Room. FRIENDS FOR JESUS Be a friend. Be a friend of Jesus. Make friends for Jesus. These words sum up what it means to be part of the Church Evangelizing in the parish, if you are interested in expressing your friendship with Jesus through fellowship, prayer, study and reaching out to others, please consider joining a small group dedicated to being and making friends for Jesus. We meet each Wednesday at 12:30pm in St. Mary’s room. Please come and join us at any time. Contact Jean Bri-ancesco 724-827-2958, Sally Gerillo 770-316-7464 or Vicky Orlowski 724-843-1873. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS LENTEN SOUP KITCHENS As a Lenten observance, our Council helps at 4 soup kitch-ens in Beaver Falls during Lent. Also, if any parishioner could help us with the place-ment of additional Family Food Drive Boxes or Money Collec-tion Jars, we would be very appreciative - if we are to meet our goal of 8,000 lbs. we'll need some additional collection sites.
