TERM TWO
For students, Term Two commences on Tuesday 17 April. Staff return on 16 April to participate in professional learning related to First Aid – CPR, Anaphylaxis, Asthma, etc.
All students are to be congratulated on their achievements in Term One – everyone who applied effort was rewarded with achievement. Learning is a bit like flying to the moon: for somewhere like 97% of the time, a spacecraft is undergoing corrections to its flight path and only 3% of the time is it actually on the perfect path. This needs to be our attitude to learning – we need to expect to be “off-course” a lot of the time but if we make the effort to apply the corrections we receive, then we will achieve our goal.
INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING
Congratulations go to Anders, Angus and Kelissa, who represented our school last week at the Regional Swimming Championships. They can all be proud of their efforts in reaching this level and it was great that Kelissa qualified for the State Championships with a win in her Backstroke event.
STUDENT/TEACHER/PARENT CONFERENCES
Any parent who was unable to attend the meetings this week is invited to contact the school so that alternative arrangements can be made to organise a meeting with teachers. I hope that all parents found the meetings a valuable opportunity to discuss their child’s progress, both past and future.
EASTER BREAK
On behalf of the staff at our school, I wish all members of the school community a safe and satisfying break. My thanks go to all staff, parents and students who have worked hard so far this year.
REACH
H is for Honesty. Dishonest behaviour (words and actions) have a lingering effect on the people around us and is one of the strongest influences on reputation. Having people trust us is very empowering so it is important to earn an honest reputation – honest people get more opportunities in life than those with a reputation for dishonesty. It is always far better to admit a wrongdoing than to get a reputation for being dishonest.
ATTENDANCE
This school will be following up all absences on the day of the absence. If your child is (or is going to be) away from school, please contact the school as soon as possible – use Compass to record the absence, send a written note or make a phone call. Parents are responsible for explaining any absence.

Activities
Wherever my story takes me however dark and difficult the
theme, there is always some hope and redemption, not
because readers like happy endings, but
because I am an optimist at heart. I know
the sun will rise in the morning, that there
is a light at the end of every tunnel.

It is fitting as we draw close to Easter to be reflecting on
hope and redemption and to be aware that they are always
present. It is through our darkest times that we have the
most need to hold on to the promise of a new start. The
image of a sun rise is a constant reminder that the sun will
always rise and every day brings a new hope and with it a
sense of gratitude for all the blessings that the day will
deliver. The sun set reminds us that everything comes to an
end, the good times and the bad, that we are constantly
moving forward. I hope you have a very blessed and safe
Easter and look forward to seeing you all next term.

Job Vacancy
Interested persons are invited to apply for an Education Support position at Manangatang P-12 College for Term Two. This is a Part-Time position (16 hours per week) with a negotiable work
schedule.
Duties include laboratory assistance in the Science area and specialist cleaning in the Food Technology and other areas.

Week 9 – Easter ideas Easter is a time for family bonding and the sharing of ‘Occasional’, or
‘RED’ foods such as chocolate Easter eggs.
While we love a good celebration and the hide-and-seek excitement
of finding a few quality chocolate eggs, Easter is also a good time to
promote and model eating in moderation. Don’t deprive your child
of chocolate eggs, but set limits and set an example.
Avoid the bunny blow-out with better choices: Make Easter a one day celebration – it just wouldn’t be Easter
without chocolate but try to limit its consumption to one day.
Give other gifts besides chocolate. Stickers, pajamas, a soft bunny toy, a game, or movie tickets are a much healthier and long-lasting gift. Combine it with just a few small eggs.
Instead of a traditional Easter egg hunt, have a treasure hunt instead. Use written clues encouraging physical activity that will ultimately lead to the chocolate treasure.
Dye or decorate real eggs with your kids that can be hung around the house or given as presents
Eat a healthy breakfast – start the morning on the right foot with a fruit salad, a homemade hot cross muffin or a boiled egg with toast before digging into the chocolate.
Most of all, when you indulge in some chocolate, savour it, enjoy it and be mindful of what you’re eating.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
Congratulations to Holly Plant for winning the People’s Choice
award 12-14 Years. Well done to all students who participated in
the competition. Voting of the photographs were done through the
library’s facebook page. A display of some of the entries are out-
side the art room.

LODDON MALLEE REGIONAL SWIMMING
Congratulations to Kelissa O’Shannassy, Angus Mitchell and Anders Plant who competed in this
event.
Kelissa had a great win in her Backstroke event but was unfortunately disqualified in the
Freestyle.
Angus was placed 4th in his three events and Anders finished a very close 2nd in both the
Butterfly and Breastroke events.
Well done swimmers!

EASTER ACTIVITIES
The primary staff and students would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and safe holidays. We have been doing Easter activities this week. We finished off the week with the Easter Egg Hunt. Here are some photos of the eggs we did in German. It was quite a challenge to get the transfer off the backing page and onto the egg!

Indigenous Mural
Some may have noticed a large frame in the school driveway. Now its purpose is obvious to all of our visitors, that it is home to the large Indigenous mural completed by artist Sandra Kropinyeri and F-10 art students. Sandra worked tirelessly last year completing the mural. The students loved being part of the design process and helping paint the mural. We thank Sandra for her patience and sharing her amazing culture with our students. We will let you know when the official launch will be next term.
Thank you to Mr Wayne Riches, Brody, Xavier and Charlie for construction and for fitting the large mural into the frame.

He says he is going to miss Manangatang!!!!! and is looking forward to seeing Kale again when they visit in July

Yamagata Exchange Student Our Japanese exchange student, Haruki visited the art room. He enjoys drawing and watercolour painting. We enjoyed watching the process of him painting a Japanese temple. Unfortunately he ran out of time to complete the watercolour, so he has taken it with him to remember his time at Manangatang. Year 7/8 art students watched a documentary outlining the history of Japanese woodblock printing. He used the art of printmakers Hiroshige and Hokusai to explain the importance of Mt Fuji. Service
Mallee Track Health and Community Service is
developing its next five-year strategic plan
(2017 to 2021).
Feedback from the community will be critical to
develop the big picture plan for the region’s
future health goals and challenges.
MTHCS has appointed consulting firm
Healthcare Management Advisors to develop
surveys (hard copy and online). These will be
available throughout the catchment in waiting
rooms and other points of care at MTHCS
(both paper-based and online using IPads).
This is your chance to guide planning for
health services in the region and how they are
delivered.
How can you help?
Be sure to have your say on the key issues
under consideration for the Strategic Plan,
such as:
Surrounding hospitals and health services
and local government.
Telehealth: What do you know about it?
Could this benefit our region?
