February was a busy month with numerous happenings such as our Open House, sporting events, Ash Wednesday and the installation of our new cross in the gym.
March tends to be a month where we demonstrate what we know as well as to continue to ‘plan for the future.’ High School registration for our grade nine students is based on their final mark, and if grades decline over the final four months, course selections could be changed by the high school. Working diligently in all subjects will help ensure that doors remain open for next year.
Progress Reports and parent-
teacher conferences are a time for celebrating the accomplishments of our students. Please note that the interviews will be the evening of Wednesday, March 14th. More information will be emailed home on Friday, March 9th when progress reports will be sent home.
The Lenten season, with its importance on prayer, fasting and almsgiving, is upon us. I encourage you to take every opportunity to involve yourselves and your families in your parishes as we ready ourselves for the great feast of Easter.
Registrations are now taking place at SJT. Parents & students are our best ambassadors for spreading the great news about us. If you know anyone who is interested in learning about SJT, please refer them to us. We would be pleased to give parents a tour of the school should they wish it. God Bless!

Ash Wednesday Celebration On Wednesday, February 14th we celebrated the Ash Wednesday Eucharistic Celebration at Sir John Thompson School. This was a last minute change of location due to weather and sidewalk conditions; Fr. Mark was our celebrant. Ash Wednesday is one of the Catholic Church’s days for fasting and abstinence. The concession did not be sell any food that had meat nor any treats such as candy or baked chips. Also, the vending machines that sell similar items were turned off for the day.
School Council The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 7th, at 7:00 p.m.
Tour Band Trip Meeting The parents whose children are attending the trip to Banff are requested to attend the meeting on March 7th at 6:00 p.m. Important information such as final payments, itinerary and activities will be discussed. A parent must
attend this meeting for their child to attend the trip.
Second PowerSchool Printout
On Friday, March 9th, a PowerSchool update will be sent home. We will be hosting Parent/Teacher/Student interviews on Wednesday, March 14th. Interviews will occur from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. It is important that parents/guardians bring their children to these interviews. Please book your interview times on-line using the instruction
sheet that will be available on-line through Swift K-12 and on page 12.
Parent PowerSchool and Final Report Cards
Many parents have already created their own PowerSchool account. It can be used to track attendance, marks and now make on-line payments. Several parents appreciated the payment option to pay school fees. Please set up an account if you do not already have one. PowerSchool for parents is a quick an easy way to be informed and receive an electronic report card as well.
Note: The final report card in June will be digital and parents will need a PowerSchool account to access it.
High School Registration On page 11 of this newsletter there is important information regarding high school open houses and registration dates. Please note that all high school registrations are completed at the respective high schools. If you are unable to attend on the specified date, please contact the high school directly to make alternate arrangements.
