Emory Glen Jarvis, 78, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his resi-

Georgia, to the late James Audley and Mary Ruth Jones Jarvis and was a lifelong resident

of this area. He served in the Army National Guard and then later in the Reserves.

Glen was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as an engineer af-

ter 30 years of service. He was a member of the South Georgia Classic Car Club and

won numerous awards for his 1969 Camaro. Glen was a huge Valdosta Wildcat football

fan and in a span of 50 years, he only missed three home games. He also was an avid

golfer and was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and

friend.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sherry Diane (Judy) Jarvis of Valdosta; two

daughters, Kimberly Gibbs of Cairo, Ga., and Robin Atkins of Valdosta; grandchildren,

Jarvis; two brothers and sister-in-law, A.J. and Rosella Jarvis of Vienna, Ga., and Larry

Jarvis of Quitman; sister, Linda Roberts of Quitman; sister-in-law, Janice Jarvis of

Americus, Georgia; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy Holtzclaw of Barney,

Georgia and Jimmy L. and Donna

Shiver of Baconton, Georgia; nu-

merous nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by

his brother, Edward Jarvis; a sister,

Ann Williams Holtzclaw; sister-in-

law, Bonnie Shiver; brothers-in-law,

Eugene Roberts and Britt Williams,

and a son-in-law, Jeff Gibbs.

Services for Emory Glen Jarvis

were held on February 17, 2015 at

2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson

McLane Funeral Home with the

Rev. Clyde Stokes officiating. Burial

was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Quit-

man, Georgia. Donations may be

Minutes President’s Report

C. Rick Hastings

Happy March everyone. Spring is

just around the corner -- warmer and longer days --

the azaleas will be in bloom -- a beautiful time of the

year in South Georgia. Kind of breezy now and then

making for perfect cruising and kite flying weather.

And don’t forget “March Madness” -- perfect for col-

lege basketball junkies.

And perfect time to spend quality time with fellow

members of our club. Cruise-up: grab a chair out of

the trunk, sip a soda, eat some peanuts, and visit with

fellow car guys and gals. Talk about the future and

remember the past. And remember folks like Glen

Jarvis who meant so much to all of us. A perfect

member of the club -- attending every meeting, every

cruise-in, traveling to lots of car shows together. Mr.

Glen will be missed.

Let me thank everyone for attending our cruise-

in for the month of February. Our second Saturday

cruise-in was well attended with many walk-up and

drive-by spectators. Earlier that day, several of our

members attended a cruise-in in Dowling Park, Flor-

ida, and later that evening, several of us attended a

“drive-in movie” sponsored by a local business. Un-

fortunately, the third Thursday cruise-in had to be

cancelled, due to the weather.

Up-coming activities for club members and guests

include our monthly meeting scheduled on Tuesday,

March 3rd at Austin’s Cattle Company from 6-8pm.

The second Saturday cruise-in will be March 14th

which will be a combined event including several

other clubs with the destination being the Youth

Home in Hahira. And the third Thursday cruise-in on

March 19th will be from 4-6pm at Steak N’ Shake on

St. Augustine Rd.

Keep your copy of the Driver’s Seat handy to

keep track of everything going on. And, of course,

consult our Facebook page and our website: http://

SGCCC.org, for on-going updates of club activities,

car shows, etc.

Let’s all have a wonderful month…. .Rick

Cruise to Dowling Park

Between "the flu", a case of food poisoning and a cracked exhaust manifold on a certain Checker, we had some

attrition of attendees for our Feb. 14 cruise to Dowling Park. However, after departing from the S. Patterson street

Hardees, the drive was a delightful 41 miles down some very scenic ribbons of north Florida road. Although there

were only about 20 cars present at the Cruise Event, it was nice to see some different cars for a change, along with

meeting some new enthusiasts. As usual, the peaceful ambience of Dowling Park on the Suwannee is soul-

soothing and in itself lends to the enjoyment of the event. The catered food was actually prepared by an on-staff

chef and was superb.

A variety of original cars as well as street rods and muscle cars provided an interesting array of participants. As usual, Irene attracts a

local admirer. She's got one in every port! Jim and Jackie Rodgers along with their two sons Cole and Clark, drove their 4-speed 1970

GS 455 Stage 2. Jim's 606 hp beast, built and dynoed at Wildcat Performance Engines, was a big hit. The Rodgers just returned to Val-

dosta from the Savannah area and will now be joining us at some of our events.

The entire board thanks SGCCC for their efforts and this gracious donation. Also mentioned was

the long term support that the club has given the ranch - especially the cruise-in at the ranch

where the children are all given rides in our classic cars.

Editor’s Comments

As you can see, this edition of the Driver’s Seat is full of

information. We mourn the loss of one of our most

faithful members—Glen Jarvis. He was truly a great

person and a wonderful ambassador for our club. He

will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with

Sherry and the family.

Thanks to Richard Lasseter for the report and pic-

tures from the cruise to Dowling Park, and to Walt

Prettyman for the report on

the check presentation to the

Boys Ranch.

Happy Cruising! - DWB
