THE SLATE March 20, 2009 Attendance: It is important! Dear Parents, I wanted to share with you the importance of your child being at school each day. The number one reason for your child to be in school is so they can receive instruction on a daily basis. Your child’s attendance not only ensures that they receive daily instruction, but it also contributes to our goal of 97% attendance rate for the year. I am going to share several facts with you about our attendance this year. Our goal each year is to have 97% attendance rate. We have had 2976 absences this year. 393 absences have been for vacation. We have had 1869 tardies this year. Our current attendance rate is approximately 96.9%. While we understand that childhood illnesses are a fact of life, regular attendance at school is still a worthwhile and attainable goal. Over the last two months of school, I would like for you to make a conscious effort to make sure your child is in school. Please let me know if you have any questions. I appreciate you supporting the importance of education at Orchard Park. Partners in Education, Tim Phares PTO Executive Board Positions It is time again to begin filling the PTO Executive Board positions for the 2009 – 2010 school year. Dear OP Parents and Staff:

I would like to take some time and send out a huge thank you to Laura Komisarcik and the

Taste of Carmel committee for all of their efforts at the Taste of Carmel. It was a wonderfully

successful event and lots of money was raised for our school. Thank you!

Thank you also to Becky Barker for a great week with Everybody Counts. Thank you, Becky, for

all of the time you invested and thanks also to the volunteers that helped her out!

If I don't get a chance to speak to everyone before Spring Break, have a wonderful week and

enjoy some much needed rest!

Sincerely,

Erin Patterson

Tradition is alive and well at Orchard Park Elementary! The 2008-2009 5th grade class presented the play

“Suessical The Musical”, based on the books by Dr. Suess, to OPE students on the morning of March 19.

Public performances will take place on March 19 & 20 at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Bergman, Ms. Holloway and many members of the 5th grade class have spent numerous after school hours (and a Saturday!)

rehearsing. Several 5th grade parents have also volunteered their time, making costumes, painting sets and organizing the

cast and crew party.
