    WHERE TO USE

The system is suitable for repairing reinforced

    cement elements damaged by physical-mechanical

stresses, for shear and flexural strengthening of

reinforced concrete and masonry elements and for

seismic upgrading of structures in high-risk zones, and is used in conjunction with MapeWrap fabrics

from the MAPEI FRP System range of products.

    Application examples

Anchorage and static upgrading of damaged ordeteriorated structures where the shear strength

    of sections require integrating.

    Flexural strengthening of beams.

Repairs to structures damaged by fire.

    Strengthening of load-bearing elements in

constructions whose structural system has beenmodified due to new architectural requirements

    or change in use.

    TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

    MapeWrap S Fabric is a mono-directional fabric

made from metallic fibres called SRP (SteelReinforced Polymer) composed of steel filaments

characterised by their extremely high strength, which is installed using epoxy resin.

The fabric may be installed using the complete

range of epoxy resins which includes:

    [sche3] 1038_mapewrap s fabric_gb (11.06.2010 - 3 Bozza/Ciano/PDF)

MapeWrap Primer 1 consolidator used to treatthe substrate.

MapeWrap 11 and MapeWrap 12 smoothing and

levelling compounds used to even out unevensurfaces and seal porosity (the workability time of

MapeWrap 12 is higher than that of MapeWrap 11).

    ADVANTAGES

Thanks to the low weight of MapeWrap S Fabric,it may be installed by a smaller team of workers

compared with interventions carried out usingconventional methods. The product may be applied

extremely quickly, and often without even interruptingthe use of the structure.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

All workers must use protective gloves and goggles

    and anti-solvent safety masks.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

    Preparation of the substrate

The surface on which MapeWrap S Fabric is to beapplied must be perfectly clean, dry and strong.

If applied on undamaged structures, sandblast thesurface to remove all traces of stripping compound, varnish, paint and cement laitance.

If the concrete is deteriorated, remove all damaged

parts using a hammer, a jack-hammer or by hydro-scarifying.Remove all traces of rust from the reinforcement rods

and protect them using Mapefer two-component

    3. Application of MapeWrap

    Primer 1

Apply an even coat of MapeWrap Primer

1 with a brush or roller on the clean, dry

    surface of the concrete.

If the surface is particularly absorbent,

apply a second coat of MapeWrap

Primer 1 once the first coat has been

completely absorbed. Smooth over thesurface using MapeWrap 11 or

    MapeWrap 12 while the product

    underneath is still fresh.

    4. Preparation of MapeWrap 11

    or MapeWrap 12

Choose whether to use MapeWrap 11

or MapeWrap 12 according to the

    surrounding temperature and workability

    times (the workability time of

MapeWrap 12 is higher than for

MapeWrap 11). Pour component B into

    component A and mix with a low-speed

drill with a mixing attachment until a

    uniform, grey blend is obtained.

Mixing ratio for both products: 3 parts by

weight of component A and 1 part by

weight of component B. At +23C

MapeWrap 11 is workable for around

40 minutes while MapeWrap 12 is

    workable for around 60 minutes.

    5. Application of MapeWrap 11

    or MapeWrap 12

On concrete surfaces which have beenpreviously treated with MapeWrap

Primer 1, and while it is still fresh, apply

    a 1 mm-thick layer of MapeWrap 11 or

MapeWrap 12 using a notched trowel,

then smooth over the surface using a

flat trowel to completely remove light

    imperfections on the surface.

    6. Application of MapeWrap

    S Fabric

Check that the first layer of MapeWrap 11

or MapeWrap 12 is still fresh, then

immediately lay on the MapeWrap S

Fabric with the help of a flat trowel to

lightly press the fabric down and acting

longitudinally to the fibres to make sure it

bonds perfectly to the first layer of

MapeWrap 11 or MapeWrap 12. If the

span to be strengthened is more than the

length of the roll (> 25.00 m), overlap

successive layers of fabric by at least

30 cm. After laying and pressing the fabric

with the flat trowel, use plastic or metal

studs to fix it temporarily in place to the

structure.Apply a second layer of MapeWrap 11 or

MapeWrap 12 making sure that it

completely covers the fibres of the

    MapeWrap S Fabric.

respective technical data sheet for each

    product for application procedures).

    Repair concrete surfaces using products

    from the Mapegrout range.

Wait at least three weeks before applying

MapeWrap S Fabric. If the strengthening operation needs to be

    carried out immediately, useAdesilex

    PG1,Adesilex PG2 or Mapefloor EP19

    to carry out repairs.

Seal all cracks in the structure by injecting

Epojet (suitable only for dry or slightly

damp cracks) or with Foamjet T or

Foamjet F (suitable for damp cracks or if

water is seeping in). All sharp corners on

elements which are to be strengthened

with MapeWrap S Fabric in conjunction

with fabrics from the MAPEI FRP System

range (such as beams and pillars) must berounded off with a jack-hammer or other

    suitable means.

We recommend forming a radius of at least

    30 mm.

MapeWrap Primer 1 is 90 minutes at

    +23C.

    3. Application of MapeWrap

    Primer 1

Prime the holes by applying MapeWrap

Primer 1 with a pipe-cleaner.If the surface is particularly absorbent,

apply a second coat of MapeWrap

Primer 1 once the first coat has beencompletely absorbed. Apply

MapeWrap 11, MapeWrap 12 orMapeWrap 31 while the product

    underneath is still fresh.

    4. Preparation of MapeWrap 11,

    MapeWrap 12 or MapeWrap 31

The choice of which product to use must

be made according to the type of holeto be filled. If the holes are horizontal or

in the ceiling, MapeWrap 11 or

MapeWrap 12 are the most suitable

products to use (for their thixotropicconsistency). If the holes are made in

the floor or are slightly inclined, useMapeWrap 31 (medium-viscosity resin).

MapeWrap 11 or MapeWrap 12 mustbe chosen according to the surrounding

    temperature and workability time

(MapeWrap 12 has a higher workabilitytime than MapeWrap 11).

    Preparation of MapeWrap 11

    or MapeWrap 12

Choose whether to use MapeWrap 11

or MapeWrap 12 according to thesurrounding temperature and workabilitytimes (the workability time of MapeWrap

is higher than for MapeWrap 11). Pour

component B into component A and mixwith a low-speed drill with a mixing

attachment until a uniform, grey blendis obtained.

Mixing ratio for both products: 3 parts

by weight of component A and 1 part byweight of component B.

At +23C MapeWrap 11 is workable foraround 40 minutes while MapeWrap 12

is workable for around 60 minutes.

    5. Preparation of MapeWrap 31

Pour component B into component Aand mix with a low-speed drill with a

mixing attachment until it forms a

uniform, yellow paste.Mixing ratio: 4 parts by weight of

component A and 1 part by weight of

component B. After mixing, the productremains workable for approximately

    40 minutes at +23C.

    6. Application of MapeWrap 11,

MapeWrap 12 or MapeWrap 31Completely fill the holes previously

treated with MapeWrap Primer 1 while itis still fresh with the MapeWrap 11 or

MapeWrap 12 using an empty silicon

cartridge and extrusion gun or with the

MapeWrap 31 by simply pouring.Carefully and slowly insert the

MapeWrap S Fabric bows into the holesso that the excess product may be

expelled. This material must then be

removed with a metal trowel. To avoidthe transversal section of the pillar

becoming too large and to improve the

bond with the first layer of fresh epoxy, fan out the parts of the bows protruding

from the holes. After laying and pressingdown with a flat trowel, apply a second

coat of MapeWrap 11 or MapeWrap 12making sure it completely covers the

fibres of the MapeWrap S Fabric.

Even though epoxy resin is an insulatingmaterial, if the element needs to be

wrapped with carbon fibre, werecommend applying a further insulating

layer of glass fibre fabric between the

carbon fibre and the MapeWrap S

Fabric. If this precaution is not taken galvaniccurrents may be generated because of

    the different electro-chemical potential

between the metal fibres and the carbonfibres, thus causing corrosion. Apply a

first, even 0.5 mm thick layer ofMapeWrap 31 (please refer to the

    products technical data sheet for

preparation instructions) on the mortarwhile it is still fresh with a roller or

    short-haired brush. Then immediately

    apply a layer of MapeWrap G UNI-AX

fabric on the MapeWrap 31 while it isstill fresh, making sure it is appliedwithout creases or folds. Flatten out the

fabric by hand while using protective

waterproof rubber gloves, apply asecond layer of MapeWrap 31 and

then press it down using the specialMapeWrap Roller so that the adhesive

    completely penetrates into the fibres

of the fabric and any air bubblesentrapped during its application are

completely eliminated. The extra carbonstrengthening material may now be

    applied.

Note:if a finishing coat is to be applied,

the final layer or epoxy resin must besprinkled with fine sand while it is still

fresh to guarantee a good bond with

    the finishing coat.

    PROTECTIVE DRESSING COAT

The protective coating may be appliedonce the epoxy system has completely

hardened (approximately 1-2 daysat +23C), such as Mapelastic two-

    component, flexible cementitious mortar

or Elastocolor Paint flexible acrylic paint(please refer to the technical data sheet

    for each product for applicationinstructions).

These products form an efficient barrier

against UV rays, which makes themparticularly recommended for structuresexposed to direct sunlight.

    Precautions to be taken during

    and after application

The temperature during layingoperations must be at least +5C andthe structure must be protected from

rain and dust carried by the wind.

After completing the applicationoperations, make sure the treatedsurface is kept at a temperature of atleast +5C.

Protect the surface from rain for at least24 hours if the temperature does notdrop below +15C and for at least 3days if the temperature is lower.

    Cleaning

Epoxy systems form an extremely strongbond and we recommend cleaning allwork tools with solvent (such as ethanol, toluene, etc.) before the products harden.

    PACKAGING

MapeWrap S Fabric is supplied in30 cm wide by 25 m long rolls packedin cardboard boxes.
