PREFACE

n today’s modern world most of the people find it difficult to time

towards their health & well being. Since childhood children also face

problems related to health, stress of examination, stress of preforming upto

the expectations of parents, teachers etc. The National Curriculum

Framework (NCF 2005) adopted a holistic definition of Health in which

Yoga was an integral part. According to NCF 2005 there is growing

realization that health needs of adolescenst particularly growing up issues

require to be addressed which is culturally sensitive area. There is a need to

provide children with authentic & accurate information & help them to

construct knowledge and acquire life skills so that they cope with the process

of growing up & counter the stress & strain of examinations and can

concentrate in their area of potential & academic achievement.

This manual is an effort to guide the teachers about how Yoga helps to

build up a child’s personality & holistic health by practicing Yoga. Yoga

focuses three areas, that is Health-Physical need, Knowledge-Psychological

need, Inner peace-Spritual need.

Yoga can be adopted by people of all ages & all walks of life.-

Yoga-a way of life.

“The impact of Yoga on conscious - evolution”

ccording to yogic principles, there is just one conscious state of being, of perception, of

knowledge, which is referred to as “Chaitanya” in Sanskrit. In Bhgwad Gita “Chaitanya” ischangeless and endless, it is pure consciousness which exist beyond senses, illuminating themall, sustaining every thing without any attachment, without any attributes.

In yogic literature it is often translated as intellect, the intellect is commonly understood asthe ability of analysing, comparing, deducing, structuring and storing information and knowledgefor later application. To most philosophers the word, consciousness’ connotes the relationshipbetween the mind and the world while in yogic term the word expresses the relationship betweenmind and the deeper truth within or outside. Mind however is nothing more than a field of thoughtsconstantly in flux, in the infinite ocean of consciousness, only way to enter consciousness pureand object less is to cease the fluctuations of the mind the mind creates desires, desires createsthoughts thoughts conceive object and over time span long enough mind ends up creating myriadobjects. Mind uses brain and its subtle counter parts as the equipment for churning sense data intosubjective information. Mind defines and redefines our world. Thus the mind is invisible andinterpenetrating. Thinking instrument the brain’ and the mind go hand in hand, but they are distinctform each other. The brain is a physical organ, fairly inert. The brain stares data and processesthoughts through interaction between various parts of its functional network. The mind providesenergy for this interaction when it interpenetrates the brain. The human mind has an immensecapacity if it could be prevented form distractions and dissipation it can be disciplined and directedin the right direction.

Consciousness is a non physical entity, which is essentially different from the four basicentities of space, time energy and matter of the consciousness does not have any physicalattribute or property or action, but endowed with autonomous will power of creation, retention andannihilation of the knowledge of an individual or that of the universe. Patanjali states thatconsciousness looks outward, through the senses and body. It see reality, a world, a self identitywhich is falsely thinks to be ‘me’ or ‘mine’. It is that which makes all experience possible. In the 3rdand 4th stars of yogdarshana (samadhi pada) patanjali clarifies that when you come to realize youressential nature you get freedom, as you constantly identify yourself with the objects of the worldand you suffer. So consciousness is unfettered by name and form. Yoga science can beunderstood only practicing it, not by memorizing the yoga-sutras. Through yogic techniques ormeditation we can raise ourselves from the egoistic state of consciousness, absorbed in the outward appearance and attractions of things, to a higher level of consciousness manifesting in thebody, nature and universe. The all yogic techniques are prescribed techniques to gently affect andraise the level of consciousness. The aim of yogic sadhana or practice is the highest joy thatcomes from the realization, direct experience is the center of consciousness, which is one and thesame with the absolute reality. Unless you realize our oneself, your pure identity, you can not haveperfect control over mind and its modifications. The work of self knowledge starts by trying to builda conscious activity of thought using in the begining the concept and ideas the sense-worldprovides. When we gain strength in directing and controlling our thought process, a perceptionfree one, nonjudgmental, sooner or later one will arrive to an awareness of the subtle panic(ethereal) forces what are behind one’s thinking. Patanali clarifies that “when you are inspired by

A

some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds’ your mindtranscands limitations, your find yourself in a new great and wonderful world”. In the true self, thepure consciousness, which has been there all along naturally comes shining through.

Maharishi Aurbindo writes that the evolution of man to the divine man is the naturalconsequence of nature’s law but if we consciously make the effort and aspire with full devotion forthe divine transformation the time will cut short and higher supra mental power will take up thework of transformation earlier.

The aim of yoga is to realize our divine truth here and transform our mental consciousnessto supra mental level. We are divine being. Divinity must be realized by man is his personality within and outside in the universal existence.

The word education is taken from the latin word “educate” meaning tobring up or to nourish. Some others believe that the word has been derived from another latin word“educantum” which has two component. “E” implies a movement from inward to outward and“duco” refers to developing or progressing. An amalisses of these words reveal that educationaims as providing a learning or a child a nourishing environment to bring out and develop thelatent potentiality hidden inside him.

According to Swami Vivekananda, Education is the manifestation of devine perfectionalready existing in man” It is education whose role is to bring out the divinity already existing inman and help him realise himself as well as lead him to reach salvation.

Addison says inshore that “Education is an essential concomitant of all human societies. What sculpture is to block of marble, education is to the soul”.

Aim of Education : The aim of education is harmonious development of a child by providing suchan environment to a child in which he can develop all the latent potentialities hidden inside him.

In all in all, it one’s education which decides what one can makeout in thier life. With the high urgency of education among all people, many of the notions havealready come up with their ideas in maximising the literacy among many of the developingcountries in spreading the awareness of education.

Relation between Yoga and Education : Yoga in often identified exclusively with hatha yoga andthis its true psychological nature remains quite veiled. Similarly, Education is often identified withvocational training or with some kind of mental culture, but its fundamental nature of integralpsychological process remains quite veiled. Similarly, Education is often identified with vocationaltraining or with some kind of mental culture, but is fundamental nature of integral psychologicalprocess remains quits veiled. Yoga” as Swami Vivekananda has said, may be regarded as ameans of comprssing one’s evolution into a single life or a few months or evena few hours ofbodily existence. “And, Education too, when rightly understood, would mean a rapidpsychological, process towards perfection. Education is search of knowledge, and it is a search ofvalues.

Now a days it is being seriously sensed that as the cultural Indian tradition established four

Noble Aims (Purusarth) in human life ie Ethics (Dharma) earing (Artha), Enjoyment (Kama) and

Emancipation (moksha), which are equally essential and significant for sublime human existence

in present time too, the education system show also impast the teaching and training of the moral

(Dharma). Socioeconomic (Artha), Psychological (Kama) and spiritiual (Mokshe) values to the

students. Indifferent word Acharya viroba Bhave (1997) the spiritual heir of Mahatma Gandhi

suggested the same that ‘Education in India is to be based on three principles: Yoga (Spiritual

traing), Udyoga (Vacationd training) and Sahayoga (social training).

Regarding the integration of yoga with modern education, swami Rama asserted (1981)

the yoga should a part of education in India. According to him education process should include

three steps :First step - Education at Home

Second step - Environmental education

Third step - Self Education
