No better picture of the role of a shepherdcan be found than that provided by David, theshepherd king in Ps.23. From his boyhood he knewthe life of a shepherd. Even thosewho oppose you are to be treated with kindness,avoiding quarreling but rather showing kindness inthe hope they will become repentant.( 2.Tim.2:24-26).

“He guides me in the paths of righteousnessfor his name’s sake” (Ps.23:3). For his “namesake” means both in accordance with holy natureand for honour of God’s name.

THE SHEPHERD MUST BE WITH HISPEOPLE IN THE TIMES OFTHEIR NEED

Just as David knew thatGod his shepherd was nearhim. “You are with me”(Ps.2:4).

Shepherd are alwaysavailable and ready to sharetheir hours of needs in timeof sickness, death, familyproblem, or crisis in life.Often you as shepherd mayhardly know what to say;you can’t provide answersthey so much long for butyou can be with them, thereis time to show Christ’sunderstanding love andthere is the time to rejoicewith those who rejoice andto weep with those whoweep.

So the people are scattered and there is chaos andproblems when there is no true and faithful shepherdin the Church. When a shepherd doesn’t trulyshepherd his congregation the people sufferspiritually and many drop out are usually scattered.

The condition of the flock is the direct responsibilityof the shepherd. God is against to the unfaithfulshepherd and will hold them accountability for overHis flock.
