The Jorge Edwards Library Reading Club is organising
a new edition of the Ibero-American Literature Workshop
coordinated by Mariana Casale, where the
plots and narratives of outstanding authors of
South American literature will be analysed. (+)

CINEMAATTIC CUARENTENA
Workshop
Each week CinemaAttic and Instituto Cervantes offer a
series of 7 shorts from modern Spanish cinema, streamed
live and with English subtitles. The programme consists of
7 shorts from Monday to Sunday on the CinemaAttic
website. There is also an events page on Facebook where
you can vote for your favourite film, make comments and
share your opinions interactively (in English or Spanish).
Sundays at 1 pm #CinemaAtticVermouth, an online event
on Facebook where some of the film directors will be
interviewed.

FIESTA DE LAS MADRES

Mother's Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in
Mexican folklore, where a series of typical dances
dedicated specifically to the mother figure are shown.
Magaly Flores, a specialist in Mexican culture and
folklore, introduces us to the culture of this day with
a selection of the best dances.

DEATH OF A CYCLIST
Cineclub Luis Buñuel: "Clásicos Contigo"
Film by Juan Antonio Bardem and starring Lucia Bosé,
which tells the story of Juan and Maria Jose, boyfriends in
a past before the Spanish Civil War, who are after a few
years of separation and resume their love. But now, María
José is no longer free, and their love turns into adultery.

Multi-faceted Spanish person that is key to understanding
the development of global law. From his position in
Salamanca, he was one of the great reformers of the
intellectual challenges of his time and he was the father
of a current of theological-legal thought of high impact.

Historical memory is one of the important themes
in Spanish cinema. In this two-session seminar
in English, Jesse Barker analyzes the representation of
the past and its context in two award-winning films such
as Pan's Labyrinth (2006) and Marshland (2014).

THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA

Instituto Cervantes Leeds Reading Club, active since

Classic film by Luis García Berlanga who represents a

INTRODUCTION TO SPANISHPHILOSOPHY - 20TH-CENTURY

The beginning of the 20th century is one of the richest in
terms of the Spanish intelligentsia. Beatriz Caballero
analyzes in four sessions in English the Spanish
philosophical evolution through the figures of Miguel de
Unamuno, José Ortega y Gasset and María Zambrano.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF GALICIANCINEMA
by Maria Seijo (Un. of Leeds)
A seminar that reviews the history of Galician cinema,
from its origins to its current flourishing, where several
filmmakers of Galician origin are gaining recognition
from critics and audiences worldwide. In between, the
period of obscurantism of the Franco regime will be dealt
with, as well as the development policies of regional
cinemas in the Transition (+).

Javier García Oliva gives a three-session seminar in
English where he develops a comparison and analysis of
the traditional legal systems of Spain and the United
Kingdom and what the consequences may be for both
after Brexit and the current crisis.

Cineclub Luis Buñuel: "Clásicos Contigo"
Luis Buñuel directs Viridiana, a story that tells the story of
a young novice about to become a servant of God. She
leaves the convent to visit her benefactor and only living
relative, her uncle Jaime. Alerted that his niece will soon
be definitively cloistered, Don Jaime, a widower
fascinated by the resemblance the novice bears to his
late wife, tries to seduce her. (+)
