It’s chilly outside, isn’t it? Dance with us and you’ll have a warmer winter, we can tell you that! Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes and Oldham Library has organised a dance workshop series on: Flamenco (14th January), Tango (21st January) and Salsa (28th January)

Salsa dancing mixes African and European influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa: Son, Guaguancó, Rumba, Boogaloo, Pachanga, etc. Salsa is normally a partner dance, although there are recognized solo forms (suelta) and Rueda de Casino (where groups of couples exchange partners in a circle). This workshop will teach you basic steps, posture, timing and interpretation of music, partner dancing with leading/following freestyle and the footwork patterns of Salsa.There will be three different levels and times:Dates from: 23rd January 2016 until 26th March 2016 Advanced Intermediate: Saturdays from 12.00-14.00. My First Steps Workshop

Aimed at children, this workshop series will teach them to develop Spanish ways of expression. By means of several methods such as mime, intonation techniques and body language, children will learn to say their first words in Spanish. Participants will be able to enjoy these amusing sessions while stimulating their cognitive development. These workshops are based in learning through playing.

The objectives are to blend body language and spoken language, and introduce the children to learning Spanish.

The length of the workshops will be 6 weeks (each series) and it is recommended to children between 3 and 5 years old.

Flamenco Workshops

Flamenco is a disciplined dance form, and is usually performed without a partner. Learning good technique is essential, as well as fun. Instituto Cervantes’ sessions familiarise you with the dance form and style, and provide an ample scope to enjoy and express yourself. Each session includes practicing arm movement and footwork (Técnica), short choreography for a dance form (Palo), etc.There are three different levels and times for this workshop series:From 1st February 2016 - 21st March 2016:

Transverberations: Iberian Mysticism in a Global Context is a two-day conference to be held over the 5th and 6th of February 2016 in the SALC Graduate School, University of Manchester. Manchester International Short Film Festival was established in 1995 to celebrate the Short Film artform. The Festival focus primarily on UK and European shorts. Tango is a musical genre originated in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo, (Uruguay), and spread to the rest of the world soon after that. Few dances require such a level of complicity and rapport as the Tango, from there it is said that in order to tango, you need to listen to your partner’s body. Born in La Línea de la Concepción (Cadiz, Spain), dancer and coreographer David Morales started his artistic career at the early age of 6 years old.
