Was characterized by inward orientation, export
pessimism and growing public sector investments.
It was hoped that by giving protection to the infant
industry, and that the industry will emerge strong and
competitive.
But this protection only resulted in perpetually
parasitic outmoded and out priced industrial sector.

We will have to support the production efforts ofthe farmers.
We will have to extend credit support to them oneasy terms.
We will have to create facilities for storage, packaging and marketing of farm products.
Provide the extension support to the farmers, especially in the market – oriented agribusiness.

The farm scientists and the experts in agribusiness
in general, in the extension personnel in particular,
are expected to help and guide the communities
engaged in agribusiness in their endeavor to
improve their agribusiness in more efficient
manner.

We should develop our own market research
methodologies suited to different locations and agro based
products.
Educate and help the farmers in applying these
methodologies under their situations,
Plan and execute the production programme based on the
result of such research and
Help farmers find out the outlets for their farm products.

Now, our job will not end at increasing the
production and productivity of the agricultural
enterprises, but the market places for their far
products.

Awareness and motivation has to be
developed only in the farmers, but also in the
field level extension workers.
EDP could be included in the mandate of
KVKs. The staff of KVKs should be trained in
this concept, so that it reaches the ultimate users,
i.e., the farmers.
Entrepreneurship development should be
included in the UG and PG courses at the SAUs.
Agricultural finance officers in banks,
especially those who are working in rural areas
should be exposed to his concept.11/20/2013 17Nishu , HECM
Keeping in view the changing scenario, we
need to equip extension professionals with
techniques of stimulating rural youth to
initiate appropriate enterprises for
meaningful self employment and income
generating activities.

strategy for agribusiness management

Information technology can play a
promising role.

professionalism.
Networking within the farming

efficient production handling , storage
,processing and transport of products
for liberalized markets.

•We have a strong network of extension professionals
from national to village level;
•We have the sophisticated means of communication
for quick and effective transfer of technologies;
•We have excellent institutional support for training
the human resource and above all ,
•We have millions of innovative farmers ready to
cooperate with us in our endeavor to promote
sustainable agribusiness.
