Margo  Hampden  –  Facilitator      Margo  Hampden  has  always  been  interested  in  education,  both  her  own  and  helping  to  further  the  education  of  others.  When  she  had  the  opportunity  to  work  for  Labour  and  Advanced  Education  several  years  ago,  she  jumped  at  the  chance.  Margo  started  as  a  Labour  Market  Agreement  Coordinator.  “I  was  so  excited  and  just  thrilled  when  they  asked  me  if  I  wanted  to  do  [workplace  education]  full  time,”  says  Margo.  Of  her  position  as  Workplace  Education  Coordinator,  she  says,  “I  absolutely  love  my  job.  I  love  helping  people  learn  and  grow  and  develop  and  to  watch  them  open  the  door  of  learning  for  the  rest  of  their  lives.”    Department  of  Labour  and  Advanced  Education  Workplace  Initiatives  –  www.nsworkplaceeducation.ca    ½  Day  –  Info  Session  –  Sunday  Sept  9th  1pm-­‐2pm    This  info  session  introduces  you  to  the  variety  of  courses  and  programs  provided  for  employees  and  employers  in  NS.  Cans  employees  continue  to  participate  in  ongoing  Education  through  the  Workplace  Education  Initiative  programs  and  some  are  being  held  at  the  CANS  office  in  Sept,  the  topic  is  “Social  Media”  for  the  September  session.  other  topics  include,  HR,  writing  skills,  Small  Business  accounting  and  many  more.  The  Workplace  Education  Initiative  promotes  learning  at  work  and  supports  the  development  of  your  workers  by  increasing  workplace  skills.  Workplace  Education  coordinators  are  available  to  help  you  assess  the  learning  needs  of your  business,  recommend  education  programs  for  your  workers,  these  courses  are  fully  funded  by  the  NS  Government  for  small  business's  in  NS  and  also  provide  support  while  the  program is  taking  place.

Heidi Petracek Broadcaster Heidi Petracek has been bringing her energetic, witty, and engaging personality to radio and television for more than a decade. She is a highly skilled communicator who has interviewed hundreds of people including well-known personalities such as Olympia Dukkakis, Kurt Browning, Alberto Manguel, and Adrienne Clarkson, along with everyday people who simply have a compelling story to share. As a journalist, she has reported on many key events in Canada – from federal elections and floods, to the collapse of the Atlantic fishery and the immediate aftermath of the 9-11 attacks. She is currently a co-host on A Channel’s lively and informative morning show, CTV Morning Live. When she’s not in the studio, Heidi spends her time cooking, enjoying the outdoors, and generally hanging out and enjoying life in Halifax with her long-time feline companion, Mo.

The Mellotones After having played over ten years of steady weekly gigs in clubs in Halifax, the Mellotones have devoted fans, both young and old. The band give the people what they want; and they want to dance! They are a tight ensemble with top-notch vocals and powerful horns backed by solid funky grooves. From playing sweaty late night dance floors in clubs to weddings, corporate engagements, special events and festivals, in any situation, the Mellotones deliver a 9 piece, high energy show of R&B favorites from classic Motown Stax, Funk, James Brown, disco and everything in between. The Mellotones play and live music full time as performers and educators. The Mellotones are among some of the most skillful and in-demand musicians in the region. Meet the Halifax Funk Legends! With the talented Jeff Mosher on vocals who doubles on saxophone he’s joined by a superb horn section featuring Jody Lyne on trumpet, Eric Landry with the trombone and Rob Crowell playing lead saxophone. The band’s rhythm section reads like a who’s who list of the best in town featuring includes Lil Thomas and Brad Conrad on guitars, Ian Mosher on keyboards, Mike Farrington Jr, on bass and Damien Moynihan on drums. The musicians represent years of playing, touring and recording with bands and backing up ECMA and Juno award winning artists.
