Making your lineart into…well lines and art!

So there’s a couple different ways that you can do lineart for digital art

1) Outline everything you’ve sketched out with a brush on the computer

2) Draw vector lines around everything you’ve done

3) Or do your lineart by hand and then make it into digital lineart

For this tutorial we are going to focus on the 3rd method

So let’s start with our scanned art

Page 2: Making your lineart into…well lines and art! · 2021. 2. 13. · 2) Draw vector lines around everything you’ve done 3) Or do your lineart by hand and then make it into digital

So here’s what happens if we try using the paintbucket tool to color without

doing any changes to the image

It can’t read the individual parts so will color the WHOLE image

First things first you’ll want to change the layer setting from normal to multiply

Page 3: Making your lineart into…well lines and art! · 2021. 2. 13. · 2) Draw vector lines around everything you’ve done 3) Or do your lineart by hand and then make it into digital

What this does is tell the picture that white pixels should be read as

transparent so now none of those are showing through.

Next go to filter---adjust---levels

Here is the filters tab!

This box represents how much black,

grey and white is present in a picture.

You want to adjust the arrows till

now more grey appears in the image.

Keep adjusting till you get something like this (to the point where the grey is

gone)

Now here’s where we can color---its best to get large areas of color down

before we focus on details---you can do that by just applying the paint bucket

to the piece or by selecting with the magic wand or lasso.

(A magic wand was used with the magic wand tool)

Once you have the big areas of color put in you can start refining shapes and adding more details with

your brushes and adding nice effects.

And voila! Even a quick coloring job starts to give some nice results! For an

even better looking piece add lots of details and take your time!

And then you could have something like this to display on your website!
