Welcome to “Make the Common Core Come Alive!” Here’s what we are covering in

Page 6: Make the Common Core Come Alive!

Survey

Have you used any of these technologies before?

Page 7: Make the Common Core Come Alive!

Technology does not have to be like this…

Page 8: Make the Common Core Come Alive!

Compare and Contrast: Egyptian Cinderella vs. Walt Disney’s Cinderella

Common Core Standard: R.2.9Compare and contrast two or more

versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors

or from different cultures.

**This lesson could also easily be applied to CCSS R.K.1 (for kindergarten) and R.1.9 (for first

grade)

1. After discussing similarities and differences between versions of Cinderella, students will choose their favorite version.

2. Once they have chosen, they will create their favorite Cinderella, using voki.com. They will add a voice to describe the similarities and differences between their chosen Cinderella and the other version.

3. Students will then publish their voki for sharing.

Other Options for this Lesson

Have students continue to research different versions of Cinderella around the world (A great website to begin: http://www.pampetty.com/cinderellaunit.htm)

Using storyjumper.com, have students recount the events in their favorite Cinderella version(CCSS R.2.2 - Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their

central message, lesson, or moral.)
