This matching and speaking activity is great for teaching or reviewing expressions of quantity. Students not only have to distinguish between countable and uncountable nouns. They also have to make sentences using words like much, many, some, any, a lot of, etc. Before class, make one copy of the cards for each group of three. Cut as indicated and put the cards into two sets grey and white. Procedure Divide the class into groups of three. Give each group a set of white cards. Tell the groups to put the two heading cards countable and uncountable face up. The noun cards should be placed face down. Students take it in-turns to turn over a noun card and match it with a heading. For each correct match, the students win a point. When the students have correctly matched all of the noun cards, give each group the grey cards, face down in a pile. In turn, students pick up a card and make a sentence with an appropriate noun. For each grammatically correct sentence, the students win a point. The other group members judge each sentence. If they are unsure whether it is correct, they can ask the teacher.
