Main Components
There are following major components in a pre-
engineered building:• Primary or Main frame
• Gable End framing or Wind columns
• Secondary frame or Purlins girts etc!
• "oof # Wall Sheeting
• $racing system
• %rane system
• Me&&anine system
• 'nsulations
• (ttachments li)e canopies fascia etc
• *oors Windows +entilators
• (ccessories li)e Turbo ,ents "idge +ents
S)ylights etc!
Main Framing
Main framing basically includes the rigid steel
frames of the building! The PE$ rigid frame

comprises taperedstraight columns and taperedrafters .steel plate fabricated /'/ or /0/ sections are
referred to as built-up members1! The frame is
erected by bolting the end plates of connectingsections together!
Secondary frame or Purlins, girts etc.
Purlins girts and ea,e struts are also )nown assecondary cold-formed members! There is no
welding in,ol,ed in their preparation! They areprepared by press bending the 0" steel coil gi,ingit the desired shape.2- or %-shape1!
Roof & Wall Panels
Metallic plain or color coated profiled steel sheets
are used as roof and wall sheeting! The steelsheets are generally made from 2incalume orGal,alume coils in thic)ness range of 3!45mm to
3!66mm! The base steel is either gal, ani&ed ha,inga &inc coating ,arying from a minimum Mass of
783 gsm!m8 to a ma9imum of 856 gsm!m8 .totalof both sides1 or a base steel coating of &inc
aluminum .&inc 46; aluminum 66;1 of totalMass of 763 gsm!m8 .total of both sides1 area, ailable with permanent color coating! The color
coating is also a,ailable in ,arious options inpolyester paint coating li)e regular modified

These profile steel sheets are usually categori&ed
into two types depending upon the type of fi9ingarrangement followed! These two types are )nownas Through

(nother alternati,e is to pro,ide pre-fabricatedinsulated panels which comprises two single s)inpanels .plain steel sheets &incalume color coated1
with polyurethane foam insulation in between!
These panels are intended for use as thermallyefficient roof and wall claddings for buildings e!g!
in high altitude areas and cold storages! 'naddition to the abo,e sandwich panels also find
e9tensi,e use in residential as well as non-residential buildings! The panels pro,ide sufficientinsulation and noise reduction properties!
?owadays large cold storage units .Potato @nion,egetables processed foods etc!1 are also made
with this pre-engineered building techniAue!
Crane systems

These preengineered buildings can be eAuipped
with @,erhead E@T cranes Semi-gantry cranes
wall mounted cranes Mono rails and under slungcranes for ,arious material and eAuipmenthandling operations inside! These buildings arebeing designed for crane capacities ranging from
7MT to 863MT! The crane runway beams .GantryGirders1 are simply supported built-up sections
withwithout cap channels and with maintenance
platforms and ladders! %atwal)s for cranemaintenance are usually mounted alongside the
crane beams suspended under rigid frame raftersor ele, ated abo,e the top of the building roof!%ranes at ,arious le,els can also be pro, ided! PE$
,endors generally do not )eep the supply of railand %rane $ridge with crane in their scope!
Meanine systems
Standard me&&anine structure consists of built-up
beams that support built-up hot-rolled or cold-formed me&&anine joists which in-turn support ametal dec)! ( concrete slab is cast on the metal
dec) as a finished surface! Steel chec)ered platesmay also be used as top surface! These
me&&anines are used for office space storage oreAuipment supports in industries!

light weight panel boards are a,ailable ashori&ontal surface!
!racing system
=ongitudinal cross bracing used to pro,ide lateralstability to the structure against wind seismic orother forces comprises of rods pipes angles or
cables with an eye bolt and an adjusting nut atboth ends located near the outer flange of
columns or rafters and attached at the web of therigid frame!
Paints and finishes
(ny desired finish can be achie,ed as per thearchitectclient recommendations! +arious choices
are synthetic enamel or epo9y based paintsdepending upon the en,ironment inside andoutside the building!
"ccessories, "ttachments etc.
(s per the functional and architecturalreAuirements accessories are supplied in ready tofit condition! +entilation and lighting systems
should be properly designed in consultation with ane9pert!

The standard mild steel used in ci,il engineeringconstruction ha,e nominal yield stress ,alues of
appro9imately 863MPa but the PE$ industry is
using high tensile hot rolled steel plates and coilsof >46MPa! "ecent re,ision of 'S83B8:833B hasincorporated these high tensile grades of steel forstructural uses and there are a good number of
manufacturers li)e T(T( S('= etc! who aremanufacturing these in 'ndia! The new materials
