8th-12th Graders

Dare to Discover: June 30-July 2 Every June, over 1000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.

If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend! You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference!

You will get to experience campus life, and meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself! We'll also have a special track devoted to agronomy, called CSI: Crops.

If you'd like to be part of the team to capture the Conference in photos, join our Iowa 4-H Youth Camera Corps, and bring your camera. We're doing things a little differently this year and you'll get to learn photo skills and put them to work through the workshop series.

Please join us in June for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference! Visit http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hiowa4hyouthconference for full details and registration information. 4-H & FFA Youth Show Sponsorship

The Southern Iowa Fair is quickly approaching and our 4-H and FFA members are working hard to complete their projects and create exhibits to be judged at the county fair. To provide a quality experience for the youth, we hire judges with experience and training in youth development for our classes. The judges that we hire come at a price and we are in need of 4-H and FFA Fair Judge sponsors. The average expense for 4-H & FFA fair judges is nearly $4000. Another cost of the youth shows is premiums. Premiums are paid to 4-H and FFA members for each ribbon they receive. The average expense for premiums is over $3000. The final cost of the youth shows at the Southern Iowa Fair is awards and recognition. Trophies, banners, plaques and ribbons are awarded to those who excel in a particular class or project area. These materials are purchased locally to save on the cost but still cost a significant amount. The awards and recognition items have been covered by local sponsors in the past, but the awards system has been revised and we are now looking for 4-H and FFA Youth Show Sponsors that will aid in covering all 4-H and FFA Youth Show expenses. Last year, over $4000 was spent on trophies, plaques and ribbons. We have set up sponsorship levels for the 4-H and FFA Youth Shows and the levels are as follows: Contributing—$75.00-$124.00 Bronze—$125.00-$249.00 Silver—$250.00-$499.00 Gold—$500.00-$999.00 Platinum—$1000.00 and above Each sponsor will be listed on the 4-H and FFA Youth Show Sponsors board at the Southern Iowa Fair, on posters up at the fair, on 4-H and Extension ads leading up to and following the fair, on show orders at the fair and will be announced during 4-H and FFA Livestock Shows. If you are interested in sponsoring 4-H and FFA Youth Shows, please let us know by calling 641/673-5841 or emailing [email protected]. To guarantee appropriate recognition, we will need to receive all donations by June 12, 2015.
