Dear Readers,
As we enter into this New Year, I take this opportunity to wish
all our readers a happy and prosperous year, 2012. It is due to
your unconditional support that has made this state a
prominent investment destination on the global map..
Right from the pre-independence days, state’s favourable
economic policies have helped it to become India's leading
industrial state. Even though, agriculture has been a major focus,
it has made rapid strides in industrialisation as well. Over 41%
of the S&P CNX 500 conglomerates have corporate offices in
Maharashtra. Today, it is the one of the fastest growing economy
in the world. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) at

(USD 190.310 billion) and GSDP per capita is at INR 8,461
(USD 1,568). Maharashtra contributes 15 per cent of national
industrial output and over 40 per cent of India's national
revenue.
IT giant TCS has announced its expansion plans in Nagpur. Also,
BDL has launched its missile manufacturing unit with an initial
investment of INR 250 crore. There are more interesting articles
related about the investments climate and many initiatives taken
in the state, in this edition of the newsletter.

Tourist Places
Raigad Fort / SHIVAJI fort
This is the very heart of
Maratha country --Raigad, the
capital of Shivaji's kingdom.
Strategically perched atop a
wedge-shaped block of hill,
split off from the Western
Ghats and inaccessible from
three sides. Stories of
incredible valor and heroic
deeds are etched on every
pebble at Raigad.
It was here that Shivaji built his
capital city in the 14th century,
and here that he crowned
himself Chhatrapati. For six
years up to his death, Raigad
remained the capital of the
Marathas with its broad gates
and magnificent monuments.
There was only one pathway
leading to the top, and prizes
were offered to those who
scaled the fort through
unconventional methods.
Though parts of Raigad are in
ruins, yet they inspire an aura
of grandeur.
