Aldo Colombini Aldo Colombini moved to the United States from Italy in 1993. He has performed in 52 countries including every European country, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, South Africa, China and South America for both children and adults. He is a F.I.S.M. prizewinner, one of the most prestigious awards in the world of mag-ic. He performed often on Italian television (RAI 1) and has also appeared on television shows in Portugal, Spain, Japan, Colombia and Sweden.

Rachel Wild With magic as a life long hobby, Rachel established a magic shop in Manchester, England in 1993. It supplied a vast array of magical appara-tus, catering to every level of performer, but specializing in quality handcrafted wooden effects. She spent the next five years display-ing and lecturing on magic at various con-ventions and magical societies before mov-ing to the United States. Rachel is also an accomplished, full time performer in both stage and close-up magic

Joshua Jay has become widely recognized as one of the world’s most promising young magicians. Can sleight of hand possibly ac-count for his success in close-up magic? Not quite. Joshua combines sleight of hand, non-verbal com-munication, memorization, hours of daily practice, and psychology to confound the senses with props as simple as a deck of cards or a pocketful of coins. This master magician has dazzled audiences in over thirty countries. Specializing in sleight-of-hand magic which is done close up and with ordinary props, Joshua’s unique style has earned him the critical acclaim neces-sary to maintain an international performing schedule. Using just a pack of cards, coins, and a few other objects, Joshua wields mir-acles of animation, transposition, and pen-etration with the audience only inches away from his hands.

Joshua Jay has been performing magic professionally since he was 10 years old. At just 23, Joshua has already accomplished

more than most magicians will in their entire lives. Having won several major awards, he is also a headlining lecturer. A respected author on magic, Joshua is a monthly columnist for MAGIC Magazine, has written two best-selling magic books, his first published in four languages. He has also been published in every major magic periodical. A performer for distinguished politicians and major celebrities by night,

Joshua is a full-time Ohio State University Honors student by day. Juggling his frenetic schedule is one of his greatest tricks! The first part is close-up, the second half is all stand-up. The first half is all eas-ier material while the second half is more difficult. It’s about half cards and half non-cards...give or take depending on the audience’s wishes. - Josh

“I always tell people I didn’t find magic. Magic found me.” - Joshua Jay

Magician Shuts Down Florida Airport Sunday, February 11, 2007, A magician who recently performed for a Super Bowl party at the Versace mansion inadvertently caused flights to be shut down for two hours Saturday at Palm Beach International Airport when screeners checking his bags found a butane canister that allows him to shoot flames from his wrists.

OOPS!

LMC Member and Bulletin Editor, Michael Raymer is now the Associate Editor of The Magic SYMbol, the monthly newsletter for S.Y.M. Members. Bruce Kalver has been editor of the newsletter and with his upcoming presidency of the S.A.M., began looking for a replacement editor. Michael already has two issues under his belt, having completed both the February and March 2007 issues.

Join The Society of Young Magicians

Jann Wherry-Goodsell, presented to us the possibility of starting a S.Y.M. chapter in Louisville. Which would en-able the young members of our club to have access to the benefits that the S.A.M. offers adults. Membership is only $20.00 a year for young people ages 7-17! If you add that to the $15.00 for our club dues, that’s $35.00 a year to cul-tivate a young person’s interest in magic and help them to develop as a Star Performer. At last year’s S.A.M. Convention in Louisville, we were able to see how many activities were available to the S.Y.M. Members. They had their own lectures, teach in sessions, and fun activities; you could tell when you saw them they had a great time! We’ve already started trying to encourage our youth, let’s help them go to the next level!

Bruce Kalver joined us on February 26th with his “Perfectly Practical Lecture” filled with magic effects taught to him by his grandfather, Samuel Woolf. Bruce is entertaining and teaches the thought process behind each routine and effect. He is an inventor, theatre producer/director and popular radio talk show host. He has a company called Top Hat Productions which manufactures unusual and entertaining magic effects and props for working ma-gicians and balloon artists. Bruce is more than that, he is a wonderful person that actually cares about what he is teaching us. His lecture is filled with wit and humor as well as workable ideas. Bruce gave us several ways of doing things we are currently doing, like the professor’s nightmare, in a different approach . He gave us routines, illusions of the mind and eye, bizarre routines, card routines, mind reading or mind transmission type routines…. It was an entertaining and wonderful evening.

President’s MessageJerry Oliver, President

“MARCH MADNESS - BABY!” As Dick Vitale would say “It’s March Madness Baby!” Whether you’re a Wildcat, Cardinal or Hoosier fan, I know many of you will be glued to the television sets to see if your favorite team makes it to the final four and then to the ultimate: NCAA Champions! Start thinking up some great sports related magic. How about a floating basketball instead of a zombie ball, or what about using those mascots like plush cardinal or wildcat coming out of your produc-tion box. Perhaps we can have another sports related theme night - I enjoyed the last one we had. If you are a true blue fan as I am, I’ll be cheering along side you all the way to the final four. Those that missed the March 1st Restaurant Master class missed out on a great event! I won’t tell you all the secrets that we learned in the 3-4 hours we spent, except that those that attended were offered an interview for performing. Since I won’t be sending out an April Bulletin, I wanted to let you all know that I will be having knee surgery on April 24 (total replacement), so I’ll be out of commission for a few weeks, and unfortunately I will miss all the magic for Derby Week - unless I can come and “prop” myself up someway (hmmm?). I look forward to seeing all of you at the next lectures. Have a Great and Magical March and April!

To promote the Iroquois show the club formed a committee to plan and promote the show. The com-mittee has been working on ideas to promote the show. We have printed business card size promo cards to pass out at Derby Festival and other events. The cards are small enough that hopefully people will stick the card in a purse or wallet and it will keep reminding them of our event. The committee is also planing to have a pro-gram for the show. Ads will be sold to help offset the cost of the show. Special space will be allotted in the program for members. Any member that buys or sells 4 tickets will be listed as a club member sponsor. Mem-bers wishing to have an ad for their magic business will get a 1/8 page ad for buying or selling 8 tickets and a fee of $4.00. Ticket prices will be $12.00 adults and $10.00 children. We also decided to establish a web site to pro-mote the show. In discussions about the web page it was brought up that we could do a lot more to promote magic in Louisville with the web page. The page is www.LouisvilleMagicShow.com. We want to list any magic that is open to the public on this web site, such as any restaurant that has a magician performing a night or two or any shows that are going on. We need all members to let us know about any magic happening in our area so we can get it listed. Hopefully a “Calendar of Magic Events.” Any member that gets a 1/8 page ad in the Show Program will also get a page on the web site in a area listed as “Magicians for Hire.” If we can get enough listings of magic events we hope to advertise the web page. If you or anyone you know is doing magic open to the public please call Jerry Oliver 969-2822 or Pat-rick Miller 636-2334. These listings will be free for at least the first year. The more we can list the more it is likely people will use the page.

Instead of my usual president’s column, Pat Miller has written the following infromation concerning publicity for the September show with Mac King.
