Doña Magda lives with her husband Carlos Blanco Vargas who is a farmer, three sons Carlos, Alfonso and Alexander and one daughter Xinia; there also lives in the house Doña Magda´s brother in law, Don Emilio. Their house is located in La Lucha de La Tigra at a small farm of 10 acres where they grow yucca, plantain and ornamental plants, beans, tiquisque, fruit trees and sweet popato, there are some cows, chickens, pigs., chayotes and papaya.
One of her sons, Carlos works with ornamental plants and studies; Alfonso, the other son, works at their farm and Alexander works with the Costa Rican electricity company; Xinia, the only daughter studies nursing at the University. Doña Magda, works at home and she is a very active woman within her community always developing social programs for other women as well as participating in radio broadcasts (she has a special spot in a local radio called “Woman Voice” broadcasted for the last 20 years). Ten years ago she and Dr. Jaime Del Castillo (our founder) started forming the “Boys Scout” in the rural communities.
Magda is a hard worker and a community leader. She is a sweet woman who likes to sit down and chat in her living-room when she has guests.
Her favorite pastime is knitting scarves for her family and every now and then hand crafts. Her favorite color is lily. She loves playing cards or any other table game with volunteers
who invite her to. Don Carlos takes volunteers to take a walk by the farm; he enjoys doing this as well as his son Carlos Jr. They have an organic fertilizer project with worms and they show volunteers how it is done.
In their one floor house there is space outside to play or just stay outside and relax. There is one room for guests with two double beds and one individual bed. There is also a hot water shower located in the room just for volunteers. She has one pet, a big dog always outside the house.
