La nouvelle appli Virées en Aravis permet d’utiliser son téléphone comme un GPS. Choix d’un parcours et téléchargement selon ses critères (niveau de difficulté, thématique…) : plus besoin de connexion Internet pour pratiquer sa randonnée une fois les infos embarquées sur son mobile. L’appli intègre également la mise à jour des informations par les professionnels de la montagne, des indications directionnelles et autres points d’intérêts avec un contenu interactif et audio, et la possibilité de partage via les réseaux sociaux. Le + : un bouton unique pour appeler les secours en cas de besoin avec un géo positionnement et un affichage des coordonnées GPS pour faciliter leur arrivée.

Choose a route and download it according to your chosen criteria (level of difficulty, theme, etc.): you no longer need an Internet connection to go hiking once you’ve put the info on your mobile. Fruit d’un partenariat entre l’ESF du Grand-Bornand et la marque de prestige « Alpina Watches », la station ouvre son stade de slalom - le site d’entraînement de ses champions - aux skieurs avides de performances. Un dispositif de chronométrage de son run, projeté sur écran géant et partageable sur les réseaux sociaux, offre également la possibilité de se mesurer aux temps de références enregistrés sur cette même piste par Tessa Worley (double championne du monde de Géant 2013 et 2017, Globe de Cristal de Géant 2017) et Steve Missillier (Vice-champion olympique de Slalom géant 2014).

The partnership between Le Grand-Bornand ESF ski school and Alpina Watches sees the resort’s slalom stadium (where champions train) open its doors to avid skiers. The big screen times your run which you can share on social media so you can compare it to times achieved on the same piste by Tessa Worley (double world champion of the Giant slalom in 2013 and 2017, Giant Slalom Crystal Globe 2017) and Steve Missillier (Giant Slalom silver medallist at the 2014 Winter Olympics).

En marge de sa pratique libre – dans la limite des conditions de sécurité propres à toute pratique en milieu naturel – il est possible de s’essayer au ski de randonnée au gré des parcours sécurisés mis en place le long des pistes de ski alpin. Le Grand-Bornand propose trois itinéraires balisés offrant une vue à couper le souffle sur la chaîne des Aravis. D’accès libre, seul l’un des parcours - « La Joyère / Le Chenu » - nécessite l’usage d’un titre de transport pour accéder à la gare supérieure de la télécabine de La Joyère, point de départ de ce circuit.

The ski touring bugAside from going it alone - subject to safety conditions just like any outdoor sport - you can go ski touring on secure trails set up along the Alpine ski pistes. Le Grand-Bornand has three signposted routes with breathtaking views of the Aravis mountain range. These trails are open-access and visitors only have to buy a transport ticket for one of them, the «La Joyère/Le Chenu» trail, to reach the upper station of the La Joyère gondola, which is this trail’s starting point.

A ceux qui rêvent d’inscrire leur trace dans celles de Julia Simon et Quentin Fillon-Maillet, stars incontestées de la prochaine manche de coupe du monde française de Biathlon Annecy-Le Grand-Bornand, organisée du 13 au 19 décembre 2021 au Grand-Bornand, l’ESF Ski de fond propose des sessions d’initiation au biathlon… hiver comme été. Le principe reste le même : tir sur cible à 10 m à l’aide d’une carabine à air comprimé, course et relais dans l’écrin spectaculaire de la vallée du Bouchet ou du stade international Sylvie Becaert.

Aim true and try a biathlon…For those who want to follow in the footsteps of Julia Simon and Quentin Fillon-Maillet, the undisputed stars of the French round of the Annecy-Le Grand-Bornand biathlon world cup, held between December 13rd and 19th 2021 in Le Grand-Bornand, the ESF cross-country ski school provides introductory biathlon sessions... in winter and summer. The principle remains the same: shooting at a target 10m away using a compressed air rifle, and a race and relay in the spectacular setting of the Bouchet Valley or the Sylvie Becaert international stadium.

Autant d’itinéraires musardant entre riants alpages et impression de haute montagne, à arpenter librement ou dans le cadre des prestations proposées par le Bureau des Guides des Aravis.

Avec 3 millions de pages vues en 2018 pour 160 000 visiteurs uniques par mois et 100 000 fans sur les réseaux sociaux, Richard et Franck comptent parmi les globe-trotters les plus influents de la blogosphère française. Amoureux du Grand-Bornand, qu’il avait découvert à l’été 2016, le couple de baroudeurs est revenu y faire une pause ski « arty » l’hiver dernier... et raconte pour GDBO Mag :

« La station de sports d’hiver du Grand-Bornand, voilà une destination alpine où nous rêvions de retourner en hiver suite à un premier séjour estival très réussi il y a 3 ans déjà. Un vœu qui s’est réalisé en janvier 2019 et pendant lequel nous avons pratiqué quelques activités nordiques sportives et ressourçantes… mais pas que ! Ski alpin oblige, bien-sûr, dans cette station historique dominée par la chaîne des Aravis. Mais nous avons aussi adoré les balades en raquettes et avons même pris goût au biathlon l’espace d’une séance d’initiation. Comme quoi, tout est possible au Grand-Bornand !

Un nouveau regardLa station s’est aussi confiée à nous au travers de l’art. L’art qui s’affirme d’année en année et sous toutes ses formes, avec notamment le très beau projet « Grandborama ». Pouvoir revivre, skis aux pieds, l’histoire de la station avec une grande exposition insolite et vraiment originale de 110 œuvres graphiques inspirées de photographies anciennes habillant les nouvelles cabines de la ligne du Rosay, ce n’est pas tous les jours qu’on peut vivre ce genre d’expérience.L’art est donc bien présent sur les pistes, mais aussi sur les murs au village. Il suffit de suivre le Parcours de l’Art Vache pour s’en rendre compte. Les vaches sont partout !Séjourner au Grand-Bornand, c’est enfin rencontrer l’âme de son village, ses habitants et ses artisans passionnés par leur territoire, leur histoire, leurs traditions mais qui ont aussi un pas dans le XXIesiècle. Avant de finir sa journée autour d’une bonne spécialité locale savoyarde. Voilà pourquoi on aime tant Le Grand-Bornand. »

Il n’y a pas qu’à Annecy qu’on fait sa fête au lac... Deux éditions de la traditionnelle « Fête du lac de la Cour » ont lieu chaque été, en juillet et août. Ambiance musicale et champêtre, fournissant l’occasion de se retrouver pour passer un agréable moment autour d’un brunch au bord de l’eau, et profiter du coucher de soleil, spectaculaire depuis ce belvédère au coeur des alpages. Rendez-vous est pris dès 17h30 et jusqu’à 19h pour l’embarquement sur le télésiège du Châtelet pour (re)découvrir le lac en mode guinguette estivale, au terme d’une petite balade de 15 mn dans les alpages (prévoir chaussures adaptées et plaid). Le retour au village, de nuit, se fait aux flambeaux...

Annecy’s not the only place where you can party on the lake... The traditional «Fête du lac de la Cour» festival is held twice every summer in July and August. The musical and natural atmosphere give you the chance to get together for good times with a lakeside brunch and enjoy the spectacular sunset from the belvedere in the heart of the mountain pastures. Meet up from 5.30pm to 7pm to hop onto Le Châtelet chairlift and (re)visit the lake at the summer bar with a 15 minute stroll in the mountain pastures (bring appropriate footwear and a blanket). The return to the village at night is lit by torchlight...

Nouvel acte de l’importante refonte opérée sur le front de neige du Charmieux - avec la livraison l’année passée de son nouveau télésiège débrayable 6 places dernier cri - ce carrefour stratégique du domaine skiable verra cet hiver la livraison d’un centre d’accueil multi-services intégrant sous un même toit un nouveau point d’accueil ESF, la billetterie des remontées mécaniques, une consigne à skis, une garderie et des toilettes publiques… en lien avec un nouvel espace débutants organisé autour d’un tapis tout public à bande large. De quoi confirmer l’attractivité de ce secteur clef du domaine skiable, l’ensemble de l’opération - chiffrée à hauteur de 20 millions d’euros - faisant l’objet d’une conduite très attentive sur le plan environnemental avec le concours d’écologues.

A green makeover for the Charmieux ski slopes!The major renovation project taking place at the foot of the Charmieux ski slope has reached a new stage. After the installation last year of a new 6-seater, high-speed, slow-boarding chairlift, this winter a multi-service reception centre will be opening in this strategic spot in the ski area. It will include a new ESF reception desk, the ski-lift ticket office, ski lockers, a day-care centre and public toilets… all linked to a new beginners’ area set up around a user-friendly wide travelator. Plenty of added attractions for this key sector in the ski area. The whole campaign – with a budget of 20 million euros – is being carried out with close attention to environmental aspects in partnership with ecological partners.

Unique au monde, évolutif, arty et décalé au possible, le Parcours de l’Art Vache permet aux promeneurs d’apprécier les centaines d’œuvres – peintures et sculptures – installées en permanence un peu partout dans le village. Maäna: an Alpine soap workshopFor their soaps and cosmetics, «it is a bit like a walk through our childhood garden», according to Marie and Antoine Pernin, a young couple of soap-makers keen to «reconnect to authentic, simple things». Wild thyme, nettles, verbena and rosehip bring their fragrances to the organic soaps, ointments and oils developed in a workshop near Le Grand-Bornand. A small-scale, hand-made production to be found on the weekly market in Le Grand-Bornand and in the delicate setting of Pollen, their creative decoration shop.

Savoie pork tenderloin in smoked paprika, reblochonemulsion with caraway seeds, pomme Darphin

Émulsion• 5 centilitres d’Apremont

• 20 centilitres de lait • 10 g de carvi noir

• 300 g de reblochon fermier

Filet mignon• 200 à 250 g de viande par personne

• 30 g de paprika fumé • Pour la garniture aromatique,

utilisez oignon, carotte et ail en chemise

Pomme Darphin• 800 g de pommes de terre Agata ou Bintje

• 2 échalotes ciselées, 50 g de ciboulette• 50 g de persil

• 4 œufs• sel et poivre

Emulsion• 50ml of Apremont

• 200ml of milk• 10g of black caraway seeds

• 300g of reblochon

Tenderloin• 200-250g of meat per person

• 30g of smoked paprika• Use onion, carrot and unpeeled

garlic for the aromatic garnish

Pomme Darphin:• 800g of Agata or Bintje potatoes

• 2 chopped shallots• 50g of chives• 50g of parsley

• 4 eggs• salt and pepper

DÉGUSTEZ ET SAVOUREZ !

Mise en œuvre de la recetteCommencer par l’émulsion. Mettre dans une casserole vin blanc,

lait et carvi, faire chauffer et laisser infuser environ 10 minutes, puis incorporer le reblochon hors du feu. Mixer et réserver.

Préparer le filet mignonSaler et poivrer, puis le rouler dans le paprika, le déposer dans du papier film et laisser reposer environ 15 minutes.

Pomme DarphinÉplucher et laver les pommes de terre. Les râper à la mandoline finement

et ajouter persil, ciboulette, échalote ciselée, sel et poivre, puis laisser reposer environ 10 minutes. Egoutter, cuire à la poêle avec huile d’arachide

en petite galette. Réserver. Pour la finition, rôtir le filet mignon environ 10 à 15 minutes selon la puissance du four, à 200 degrés, puis le laisser

reposer environ 10 minutes. Découper en tronçon et servir avec l’émulsion et les pommes Darphin.

Method:Start with the emulsion. Heat white wine, milk and caraway

in a pan and leave to infuse for 10 minutes, remove from the hob and add the reblochon.

Blend and put to one side.

Prepare the tenderloin: Season then roll in paprika, wrap in cling

film and leave to rest for 15 minutes.

Pomme Darphin:Peel and wash the potatoes. Finely grate on a mandolin

and add parsley, chives, chopped shallots, salt and pepper then leave to rest for 10 minutes. Drain and pan-fry the pancakes in peanut oil.

Put to one side. For the final flourish, roast the tenderloin for 10-15 minutes (depending on your oven) at 200 degrees then leave to rest for

10 minutes. Slice and serve with the emulsion and pomme Darphin.

2000 vaches pour à peine plus d’habitants contribuent, à longueur d’année, à faire du Grand-Bornand la première zone de production du fameux fromage rond à l’onctueux goût de noisette. La station est également la première commune agricole de Haute-Savoie avec une cinquantaine de fermes en activité. Chaque semaine, une d’elles ouvre ses portes au public. L’occasion de découvrir, in-situ, les différentes étapes de fabrication, de la traite des vaches à l’affinage en cave. La « crème des fromages » dévoile ainsi les secrets de sa saveur et sa texture inimitable lors d’une dégustation finale avec le producteur.

In the warmth of the cowshed, the secrets of Reblochon farm cheese are revealed With 2,000 cows - almost outnumbering the residents - all through the year, Le Grand-Bornand is the top manufacturer of the famous round cheese with a smooth, nutty taste. The resort is also the top farming area in Haute-Savoie with fifty-odd working farms. One of them opens to the general public every week. It’s an opportunity to see the different stages of production for yourself from milking the cows to ageing in the cellar. The «crème des fromages» also reveals the secrets behind its flavour and inimitable texture during a tasting with the producer.

Le plus étonnant est de réaliser que ces chalets, pour les plus anciens, sont contemporains du château de Versailles. Une visite de la Maison du Patrimoine permet, à ce titre, de se familiariser avec les techniques de construction locales et la beauté brute de ce patrimoine vernaculaire. Habitée jusqu’au tournant des années 80 mais délestée de tout élément de confort moderne, la bâtisse présente une collection de meubles, objets et costumes d’antan habilement mis en scène au gré d’une reconstitution fidèle d’un foyer traditionnel bornandin.Un détour par le hameau du vieux Chinaillon complètera la visite. Avec son alignement de chalets ponctué d’une pittoresque chapelle prisée des photographes, cette véritable « carte postale » bornandine reste la quintessence d’un patrimoine bâti sauvegardé dans son jus et joliment valorisé. Au point d’y trouver également quelques-unes des meilleures tables – et autres hébergements de charme ou classés luxe – de la station.

The biggest surprise is that the oldest chalets were built at the same time as the Château de Versailles. A trip to the Heritage Centre introduces you to local building techniques and the raw beauty of our regional heritage. The building was inhabited until the 80s, stripped of any form of modern comfort and displays a collection of furniture, items and antique costumes that are beautifully showcased by a loyal reconstruction of a traditional local home.End the visit with a trip to Chinaillon’s old village.
