Welcome from Mader Ranches We would like to welcome you to our 23rd Annual Mader Ranches Bull Power and Select Female Sale! It’s hard to believe another year has passed and it’s time for our sale again. However, with the optimism and record high prices we have watched grow stronger, we think those of us who have held on to our cattle are going to see years here that are very rewarding. We also think the demand for our product will continue to grow as supply continues to decrease across North America. Hold your head high and be proud to be in the cattle business!We feel we have brought you an excellent set of bulls this year. We continue to work very hard to source new and improved genetics for our herd, and through our extensive AI and embryo program and strong walking herd bulls, we feel that we are continuously increasing the uniformity and quality in our offspring. We strive to produce thick topped beef bulls, that are functional on their feet and legs, and that will last the test of time. You will tell that our bulls are not stuffed full, as their hair coats are heavy and not burnt out, they are free moving, and a month after you kick them out they won’t be 200 lbs less! We believe in growing these bulls out on a mixed ration to develop them into breeding bulls, not finished bulls! Our bulls are in a large pen where they are forced to exercise and there is nothing better than watching them be able to run and buck. We are honoured to have the good people of Diamond T Cattle Co join us again with a strong set of red and black Angus bulls. This marks the fifth year they have consigned bulls to our sale and each year the quality increases as they too are working hard to focus on raising consistency and superiority. The families involved in this operation are great cattle people and great friends. New consigners to the sale this year are Pearson Sim-mentals, with a dozen red and black Simmental bulls. The Pearson family are long time friends, and are a very progressive mixed farming operation and although they haven’t sold bulls in this sale in the past, they have certainly successfully sold bulls privately off the farm for years. We are happy to welcome the Pearson’s to our sale and look forward to working with them. We are happy to have Bouchard Livestock working with us again this year as Brian and his team are very trusted and respected cattlemen. We are also happy to have Bohrson Marketing Services working with us for the first time. Scott and his team are well educated in the cattle busi-ness, and either company would be more than capable and trustworthy to assist you with handling an order. We personally use them to buy for us at other sales, and have been super satisfied with the animals they have purchased for us. Along with a huge selection of bulls to pick through, we are offering you some unique embryo packages sired by the outstanding ‘Stubby’, who sired the $82000 bull at Checkers, and out of the very top end of our Donor Program. Also, we have put together 8 elite females from our heifer pen to add to the sale! These heifers are right off the top this year! There is a wide variety of sire groups and certainly some heifers in here that could have sold through some of the elite female sales last fall. All of the bulls and heifers are on a full vaccination program and all bulls in the sale will be semen tested prior to going to town. Another one of these great 680S bulls! You really have to admire this bull for the overall mass and thickness he exhibits. He is very angular through the hip, has lots of depth and spring of rib, and is very fluid in his movement. His Powerline dam does a great job on her calves. Last year, as a first calf heifer, she raised a full brother to this bull that we decided to retain and use ourselves. His calves are looking great! Here is a sale feature! Shakelton is a powerhouse bull with style and class to burn. Have a look at that full blaze face, that huge top, and that enormous hindquarter! His dam is a favourite here. We purchased her as a heifer calf and decided to flush her right away. This resulted in this bull and two heifer calves, one of which we retained, and one we sold at Agribition this past fall for $10,000 to Meadow Acres. Here is a lead off bull in our black offering! A bull that was showcased this past fall at Agribition as part of our showstring. He is as heavy muscled as they come, has loads of natural thickness, and is the natural calf out of a leading donor cow. As a first calf heifer, this female weaned this calf off with a 918 lb 205 day weight. Ransom has sired an excellent set of calves for us. Here is our Homo Polled, Hetero Black walking herdsire that has been very influential. Ransom has proven himself to be a calving ease bull as he averaged 80 lbs on all the calves we had last spring, many coming out of heifers. He passes his muscle expression and overall balance down to his progeny, giving them lots of performance and eye appeal. Ransom’s dam has been a very hard working cow and has brought many bulls to this very sale where they have been high sellers. You have to admire this bull for the excellent skeletal structure he exhibits, the huge ass end in him, and the amount of depth of rib he has. He may not be the biggest structured bull in the pen, but for a February bull he is a tank! His dam has been a tremendous cow, and as a second calver, she has already produced 10 calves that have been sale features for us. Ransom contributes extreme muscle expression to this bull as he does in all of his calves.

Every year there is a bull that becomes a pen favourite to us, and this year Full Money ranks very high! I am honestly not sure if we have ever raised a bull with so much power, so much performance, and so much style. He is an absolute chunk from end to end, and he moves out so freely and comfortable. The Ironman progeny have been some great cattle, and crossed to the LFE Famous cow, everyone has been a homerun. Last fall a full brother sold through Checkers to Pearson Simmentals, and this year we showed a full sister to this bull that was the Simmental First Lady Classic winner at Agribition! We have been nothing but impressed with Ankonian Red Caesar, one of the most phenotypically correct bulls in the industry. Homozygous polled, Caesar is a heifer bull ranking in the top 1% for Maternal Calving Ease EPD- with power and breed-leading carcass potential. His actual weight at the time of weaning was 1,017 pounds and his actual weight as a yearling was 1,520 pounds. We cannot emphasize enough the genetic potential of this wonderful individual. His dam, Candace, is one of the most proven in the breed.

For 3 years running now, we have sold full brothers to these bulls in the bull sale and they are always crowd favourites. Here is a pen favourite! Just an 88 lb birthweight, and a 750 lb 205 day weight, raised on a first calf recip. I think this just goes to show the natural growth and perfor-mance in this pedigree, as no matter what age or condition of the recip these full brothers were raised on, they all seem to still excel. Limitless is the natural born calf off of the Sierra 524S cow. This female really has been the powerhouse female in our red program, and con-tinues to raise us some of the best red bulls we have to offer. It’s heifer bull time! Sucker Punch is a very uniquely pedigreed bull out of two great parents. His dam, Erixon Lady 202S, is rapidly creating a big name for herself in the Simmental breed. We sold a flush on this female in ’09 for $12,500 at Agribition to Double Bar D Simmentals. The same year, with her heifer calf at side, they were undefeated champions. It seems that the hardest thing to find in the Simmental breed today is an outcross red bull.... Well here he is! He is sired by the new AI sire Dr. Phil, who was brought into Canada from the US. We have AI’d extensively to this great sire along with using him in our embryo program, and we are very satisfied with his calves. The dam of this great bull is a never miss cow! She sired our lead off red bull in the bull sale last year, who sold to Bill Homans of Cornerview Simmentals. She is also the dam of many great females that have all sold through elite fall Simmental sales. Only one daughter has been retained out of this Limited Black cow, and I think from here on out every female should be kept! The cow entered the donor program this spring, and we are super happy with the outcome of her ET calves! Jungle Cat is a superior bull physically as well. It is with great honour that we offer one of our very own herdbulls for sale! Fourtrax is coming 3 years old this spring and has done a great job as our heifer bull. He sold through our sale in 2010 to Pioneer Simmentals and we bought half of him back for our own use. It is a tough choice to sell this bull as he has worked well and his sons in the sale certainly speak for themselves. However, both we and Pioneer Simmentals have retained some heifers out of him, and it is time for us to now find some new blood for the heifer pen. We purchased Kosmo from the Muirhead Sale in 2006, to be our calving ease specialist. His sire’s 16 bull calves had averaged only 78 lbs at birth, and had tremendous weaning performance. Here is the great outcross Rio sire who traces back to some very proven genetics! His sire, Rio Grande, is as powerful of a bull as you will see, with piles of body capacity, style, and overall thickness. Rio Uno was purchased last spring as we were in search of some new blood. He himself is very long spined, has lots of mass, with a great big foot underneath him. His dam is 19th in the top 50 listings of dams in Canada on performance reports. The cow is also the dam of the number 1 bull for performance in the breed and is a half sister to the number 3 ranked bull. So growth and power are certainly two things this sire has gained from his pedigree and is now pass-ing down to his progeny. The Rio calves were all born unassisted, are very docile, and very stout made.

Here is a very special lot. 1106 is maybe the most correct made red bull we have ever produced. His dam is a paternal sister to the $40,000 Diamond T Hips Stout bull sold to the Chatburn Ranch in Idaho. This bull exhibits a ton of muscle, loads of rib, nice fronted and a strong sound set of feet and legs the Red Angus breed looks for. He is also dark red and sired by Red Brylor Big Rock who is causing quite a stir the last little while. Our farm is located 4 miles northwest of Calmar where we’ve been farming as a family for over a century. We started our purebred Simmental herd in 1971 and have spent the last 40 years raising quality Simmental cattle. Each winter we calve out 100 red & black Simmental females. We also grain farm and are kept busy in the summer custom farming for friends & neighbors. All the bull calf pairs are kept at home during the summer on pasture. Thankfully we had timely rains this year, which meant tons of grass. Our calves are not creep fed and we wean all the bull calves at the end of August. The bulls are then developed on a silage based ration.In the past we’ve marketed our bulls by private treaty off the farm, however, we are honored to be joining the Mader Family & the Gardner Family in this year’s sale. Red Rebel was one of the very first Ankonian Red Caesar sons to sell in Canada through the Robb family’s bull sale. Red Rebel’s mom, Dusty Rose Champagne 1N, is a feature donor female in Robb’s herd. We own Red Rebel in partnership with the Anderson Family at Minburn. The Anderson’s run a commercial cow/calf operation and they are very pleased with his progeny – the steer calves are so consistent and the females have great udders. Double Down is a dark red, correct made bull. When we weighed all the bulls on December 6th, he was the heaviest – tipping the scales at 1270 lbs. According to his EPDs, he’s in the top 20% of the breed for weaning weight. TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par. Settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerk of the sale before any cattle will be released. All monies are in Canadian funds.BIDS: Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder.DISPUTES: In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announce-ments.INSURANCE: Will be available sale day. Animals become the property of the buyer as soon as sold. Bulls to be wintered must be insured.SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in arranging trucking after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Auctioneer or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. If you need assistance please contact the seller.CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Registration or recordation papers will be transferred to the new owner if requested at time of payment. Cattle will not be transferred until paid for in full.SEMEN RESERVE: The seller reserves the right to draw semen on any bull in the sale for in herd use only at the cost of the seller and prior to delivery.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, nor the auctioneer assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk and sellers assume no liability, legal, or otherwise, for any accidents occur-ring in or about the premises.EXPORT TESTING: Required health certificates for cattle being ex-ported will be provided.BREEDING GUARANTEE: All animals are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with the respective breed association bylaws. No guarantee is given a bulls’ semen will freeze. Any female that is subject to embryo transplant shall cause this guarantee to be null and void. Guarantee does not apply to animals which after the sale are not properly handled and cared for, or injured or sick. They cannot be returned to us if not in a sound, healthy condition. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.RIGHTS & OBLIGATIONS: The above terms & conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer & seller & be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction & the rights & obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms & conditions of this sale. In the event of default on any part of the terms & condi-tions covering this sale by either the buyer or the seller, it shall be the responsibility of the buyer or the seller to investigate any action neces-sary to bring about a fair settlement of any claims arising from this sale and to be responsible for any & all costs involved therein.
