Introduction• Madagascar is an island nation in the Indian
Ocean off the south eastern coast of Africa. The main island, also called Madagascar, is the fourth-largest island in the world. Two thirds of the population live on an equivalent of 76p a day.
When was it found?
• The island was first found by Europeans after being sighted over 500 years ago by a Portuguese ship on the new route to India.

• Madagascar is divided into 6 provinces:Antananarivo (1), Fianarantsoa (2), Toamasina (3),
Antsiranana (4), Mahajanga (5) and Toliara (6)
