INTRODUCTIONANDSUMMARY This report has been prepared at the

request of Murdo C. McLeod, President, FLAG RESOURCES LIMITED, Calgary, Alberta.

The report summarizes a series of short drill holes which probed the vicinity of the No. l and Camp Zones as well as the deepening of one hole and a probe of the West edge of the No. 2 Zone.

A brief gross resume of the regional and local geology is made as well as descriptions of the showings and showing structures on the point at Wolf lake.

This report is an adjunct to a report dated January 1984 which summarized all the drilling done on the Mackelcan township property by FLAG RESOURCES LIMITED during 1983 except for the extended drilling done between November and December 1983 on the point at Wolf

lake. Some of the material used in the January 1984 report has been revised and used in parts of this report. Several of the maps have also been used.

A total of 1,745' of drilling was completed in 7 short holes plus the deepening of another hole. Direct field costs for the extended drilling portion of t'ne program amounted to $40 / 144.45.

DDH IWL83-41 intersected a long section of mineralization in the Camp Zone structure. The best gold intersection was:

.42 02 Au/9'

The best gold and copper intersection was:

.04 oz Au, Cu/9.5 1

To date, mineralization encountered on parts of the No. 1-Camp-Shaft-No. 2 Zone'structure is rich but local and restricted in extent. Mineralized intersections obtained nevertheless demonstrated that areas of en- ichment are present in this particular structure and are likely to occur in other mineralized structures on the property.

Some selective I.P. surveying and cross- trenching is recommended prior to proceeding with further drill probes on the structure.

GEOLOGY

General

Local

Mackelcan township gold occurrences held by FLAG RESOURCES LIMITED are hosted by Lorrain quartzite formation, a member of the Cobalt Group (Lorrain and Gowganda formations), part of a larger sedimentary package of rocks classified as the Huronian Supergroup.

Huronian Supergroup sediments extend from Sault Ste. Marie Easterly through Elliot Lake and Sudbury then arch Northerly along the flank of the Grenville front through Mackelcan township fanning out to include parts of the Temagami, Cobalt, Elk lake, Englehart, Gowganda, Matachewan and Kirkland lake areas.

Some of the principal lithological units in the Huronian sequence are: quartzite, siltstone, arkose, argellite, greywacke, conglomerate, dolomite and limestone. Table No. l on page 8 lists the Huronian formations. It is taken from Energy Mines and Resources paper 68-40, by S.M. Roscoe.

Lorrain quartzite in the immediate showing areas in Mackelcan township, particularly at Wolf lake, are prominently bedded grey-green generally uniformly fine granular quartzites.

Local thin conglomeritic beds with rounded quartz pebbles up to about l" or less are common.

Fine hairlike alternating beds of black magnetite have been observed in the quartzite in some drill core and on an island in Wolf lake.

The gold occurrences at Wolf, Jess and Jones lakes are situated with .n the

SEast sector of a large eliptical shaped basin of Lorrain quartzite measuring approximately 8 miles East-West by 14 miles North-South. Underlying the Lorrain quartzite are wackes of the Gowganda formation.

A maximum thickness in excess of 11,000' of Lorrain quartzite lies within the basin located in Mackelcan, Aylmer, Tefler and Mcconnell townships.

Numerous lineaments and fault structures bisect the basin. The lineaments are sometimes prominently evident in topography appearing as scarps and linear depressions that extend for considerable distance.

Bedded Lorrain quartzite segments have been tilted and rotated at various angles on either side of the lineaments and regional fault structures.

The tilting of quartzite beds is prominently displayed at Wolf lake where visual apparent rotation can be observed. For example, the beds on the point near the No. l Zone are inclined 56 0 Northerly. The beds on the East side of Wolf lake are inclined 09 0 Northerly and the beds on the West side of Wolf lake are inclined between 20 and 25 0 Northerly.

Sudbury type breccias appear to be localized along and adjacent to some of the lineaments, faults, and fracture zones. They are prominently exposed adjacent to some of the gold showings on Wolf, Jess and Jones lakes.

Pink arkosic quartzite and mineralized pink quartzite breccia are localized within and along some of the lineaments. They appear as rounded, oblong or tabular bodies.

Diabase dykes are associated with at least one lineament that trends NEasterly through Wolf lake. It is exposed in outcrop and has been noted in drill core.

Showings

Approximately 3 0* of the terrain adjacent and surrounding Wolf, Jess and Jones lakes is outcrop. The predominant rock type is bedded grey-green granular Lorrain quartzite.

Figure No. 5 portrays some of the geological features alluded to here. They are illustrated in cartoon-like fashion on the geological map. Figure No. 6 illustrates the regional geology.

Gold mineralization appears to be localized within mineralized pink quartzite breccia zones and in hematized limonitic and kaolinitic fracture zones assobiated with the pink quartzite breccia.

Milk white quartz-carbonate veins and fragments comprise the matrix of the breccia.

Pyrite ,{non cubic) or marcasite ? is erratically disseminated in portions of the pink quartzite breccia. Occasionally, massive patches, lenses, or fragments of sulphides, mainly pyrite, over core lengths of 4 feet, have been intersected in drill holes.

Chalcopyrite is a common sulphide consistent in the No. l Zone, Camp Zone and parts of the No. 3 Zone. It appears to be a minor constituent in the No. 2 Zone and is virtually absent at Jess and Jones lakes.

Some carbonate minerals identified are calcite, ankerite and an apple green unidentified variety.

The No. l Zone and Camp Zone contain a deep blue mineral coating chalcopyrite which i-s tentatively identified as covellite.

Geothite occurs at the No. l Zone surface showing and has also been observed in drill core from the No. l and Camp Zones.

Native gold is common at the No. l Zone both in surface samples, pannings and drill core. Native gold has been observed in surface samples and drill core from

Page 14: Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties Sudbury Area O ...€¦ · SUMMARY REPORT ON EXTENDED DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM (Wolf Lake Sector) Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties

the No. 2 Zone. Gold can be panned and has been observed in drill core from the No. 3 Zone.

Variations are common and pervasive in the pink quartzite breccia zones. Some sections intersected in drill core contain generally narrow, but sometimes up to 2' widths of thinly bedded, fine grey-green granular quartzite beds and occasionally, fragments.

Chlorite is a frequent constituent in portions of the breccia zones. It occurs as chloritized quartz fragments , and as massive clots of dark green chlorite. The chlorite is both barren and pyfitic.

Textural and mineral content variations occur within the breccia zones over very short distances laterally and vertically.

Native gold, where observed, is associated with pyrite and/or chalcopyrite but appears to occur in the free state.

There appears to be no unfailing corellation between the amount of pyrite or chalcopyrite and gold values. Some sulphides must nevertheless be present in any section that yields gold.

DIAMOND DRILLPROGRAM An extended drill program was carried out

on the Camp Zone, Shaft Zone and No. 2 Zone during the period 9 November - 2 December 1983.

This extended drill program entailed drilling 7 short holes (WL83-39 - WL83-45) and deepening of l hole (WL81-17).

A total of 1,745' were drilled during the extended drilling program.

The holes are listed below:

Direct on-site field drilling costs of $40,144.45 were incurred to complete the 1,745' of extended drilling. These costs do not include air transportation, assaying, engineering or overhead.

The extended drill program was directed and supervised by Murdo C. McLeod, President, FLAG RESOURCES LIMITED, assisted by A.E. Jerome, vendor-prospector.

Drill hole locations are shown on Figure No. 7 and No. 8.

Appendix A abstracts the intersections and geology as well as generally classify the drill holes.

SHOWINGDESCRIPTION AND COMMENTARY

No. l Zone The No. l Zone is a generally typical mineralized pink quartzite breccia comparable to the No. 3 Zone, Jess lake Zone and Jones lake Zones.

It is the best exposure on the property since it has attracted most of the attention of prospectors. Considerable local surface blasting has been done.

Angular, unsorted pink quartzite breccia liberally mineralized with pyrite (non cubic) chalcopyrite, and covellite? are exposed here. Matrix material comprises milk white quartz-carbonate fragments and gash veinlets, Minor amounts of geothite have been observed at surface and in drill core.

Camp Zone

Native gold is pervasive in the mineralized breccia. It can be panned with ease from fines and shoreline sediments. It is visible in hand specimens and drill core.

Some visual examples of large eliptical- form breccia fragments are observable where the breccia is in contact with Sudbury Brecciated host Lorrain Quartzite. There are also visual examples of pink quartzite permeating the host Lorrain quartzite somewhat like a metasomatic type alteration feature.

Assays from hand samples, composite samples and drill core have returned some high values up to 1.00 oz in gold and 2%-f in copper.

Se -eral random holes have been drilled on and in the vicinity of the No. l Zone. None of the drilling provides definitive data on which to interpret the configuration or tenor of the zone. It is nevertheless conjectured that the No. l Zone is a local lense lying along a branch or subsidiary "break" to the lineament projected through the Southwest structure, Lake Structure and No. 3 Zone. The same break or system of tight fractures are postulated to trend through the shaft area and the No. 2 Zone.

The No. l Zone provides an example of the type of high grade gold and copper likely to be. present in portions of, or directly in, mineralized pink quartzite breccias at Wolf lake and vicinity.

This is an atypical zone. Massive patches of chalcopyrite with associated pyrite occur with irregular quartz- carbonate veins and fragments in kaolinitic and hematitic stained Lorrain quartzite and Sudbury breccia. There appears to be considerable fracturing associated with the mineralization. Chalcopyrite is the predominant sulphide mineral.Quartz and carbonate gangue make up the largest percentage of host rock in the mineralized zone.

Page 17: Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties Sudbury Area O ...€¦ · SUMMARY REPORT ON EXTENDED DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM (Wolf Lake Sector) Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties

Camp Zone mineralization intersected in vertical discovery hole WLI 83-28 has been intersected in a series of sectional and vertical holes drilled on East-West and North-South sections. These are shown on the cross-sections in the pocket of this report.

The zone appears as a shallow 'octopus- like 1 blob of essentially mixed chalcopyrite and quartz-carbonate in a cross-fracture zone adjacent to the No. 1- No. 2 Zone lineament or fracture system.

An alternate possibility to explain the attitude of the mineralization is a NEasterly plunging, fracture controlled, cigar-shaped lense.

Figure No. 9 and the 3 DDK sections in the pocket of this report provide basic data on which to support alternate interpretations on the attitude and control, of the mineralization in the Camp Zone structure.

Shaft Zone The Shaft Zone appears in outcrop asa narrow silicified hematite stained, pyritic, quartz vein zone in a NEast striking Easterly dipping fracture cutting Sudbury brecciated Lorrain quartzite.

Gold values up to .50 oz Au have been obtained from chip and grab samples taken from surface exposures on the North edge of the shaft. Visible gold has been observed in excavated picked samples from dump material.

Hole WL# 81-83-17 drilled under the Shaft Zone did not intersect vein material or mineralization. Patchy areas of weakly kaolinitic and hematitic stained, quartzite appear at intervals throughout the length of the hole however.

No. 2 Zone A vertical hole drilled on the West edgeof the No. 2 Zone lineament sectioned Sudbury Breccia and bedded Lorrain quartzite.

Page 18: Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties Sudbury Area O ...€¦ · SUMMARY REPORT ON EXTENDED DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM (Wolf Lake Sector) Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties

15.

This zone appears to be localized along a subsidiary lineament or localized fracture zone that trends NEasterly through the Ne. l Zone, Camp Zone and Shaft Zone.

A small' pop blast location on one part of the No. 2 Zone exposes mineralized, kaolinitic, and hematitic stained quartzite. Fine visible gold has been observed in rock samples from the showing and in drill core from the vertical hole. Some hand samples contair glassy quartz in association with sulphides (non cubic pyrite).

Surface 'showings' are localized along a short section of outcrop on the East edge of a scarp that is the topographic expresssion of the No. 2 Zone lineament or fracture zone.

Sudbury breccia exposures flank the No. 2 Zone.

There are several areas along the No. 2 Zone that could easily be cross- trenched.

The No. 2 Zone has not been adequately investigated by drilling but cross- trenching and/or orientation drilling will be required to sort out structural control and the geological setting before a meaningful program of exploration drilling can be initiated.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS The extension drilling program was

essentially a series of random prospect drill hole probes in the vicinity of the No. l and Camp Zones to test the underlying rocks for extensions of the Camp Zone mineralization that may have been present.

The deepening of hole WL# 81-83-17 served to show that hematitic staining is pervasive over a long East-West section of the point on Wolf lake.

Page 19: Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties Sudbury Area O ...€¦ · SUMMARY REPORT ON EXTENDED DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM (Wolf Lake Sector) Mackelcan and Rathbun Townships Properties

The significance of this is not certain. Drill results on other parts of the property suggest that hematitic staining, limonitic staining and kaolinitic alteration are proximal to mineralized pink quartzite breccias.

Hole WLi 83-45 drilled on the West flank of the No. 2 Zone lineament produced inconclusive results. It may support the hypothesis that No. 2 Zone fractures are inclined Easterly.

Apart from the No. l Zone, which appears to be a typical mineralized pink quartzite breccia, the remaining gold-bearing structures along the No. l-No. 2 Zone lineament are local fracture controlled structures impregnated with quartz, carbonate, and sulphides mainly chalcopyrite and pyrite with accessory covellite, geothite and occasionally native gold.

The Camp Zone appears to be localized in cross-fractures adjacent to the main NEast trending fracture system. A steep NEasterly plunging small irregular diameter cigar-shaped body may be present.

Results obtained from both surface trenching and in some drill holes suggest that significant values in gold and copper are present in local portions of the No. l -Camp-Shaft-No. 2 Zone structure.

A selected program of cross-trenching in readily accessible portions of the structure will help in interpreting the structural and geological setting as well as provide sample access points.

RECOMMENDATIONS A program of selected cross-trenching mapping and sampling is recommended for the No. 1-Camp-Shaft-No. 2 Zone structure prior to attempting either orientation or prospect drilling.

Selective, specialized I. P. surveying over the point, which will include the No. 3 Zone, may isolate target areas for either trenching or drilling,
