THE COLLEGE ESSAY This is your voice in the application process.
Students should take their time in writing a well thought out
personal statement
Most students will only have to write one essay however
some colleges/universities will have specific essay topics.
Please be sure to review application procedures from each
school
The next few slides give more information and sample essay topics
ACTIVITY SHEETColleges want to know what you have been
involved in over your High School years
Students are asked to complete an activity
sheet. The next slide will show an example
however students can use any format
Create a word or excel document that you can
easily update into your senior year
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONHow many recommendations you need will depend on the school (or specific program) that students apply to
We recommend that students ask 2 teachers for a letter of recommendation
Additionally, some applications may require a recommendation from your School Counselor
Students are encouraged to ask first and then return a completed Yellow Teacher Recommendation Request Form (Print or pick up in the Guidance Office)
For a Counselor Recommendation, student and parent should complete the Senior Student Questionnaire and Parent Brag Sheet for College Recommendations (forms can be emailed back to counselor at any time)
**Recommendations are considered confidential.
