31-year-old woman Kavitha Bharanida-ran, who is a resident of Anna Nagar, has

created a new world record for the longest continuous perfor-mance of yoga asanas. The young woman, who has been actively pursuing yoga for many years, embarked on the world record attempt on De-cember 23 and managed to perform various yogic postures for over 160 hours when Mogappair Mail pursued her record breaking effort. Inciden-tally, she is the mother of a toddler.

The previous recorded lon-gest yoga performance by an individual in the Guinness Book of World Record was set by Prathanya Patin, a person from Nashik, the ancient holy city in Maharashtra. She had performed yoga continuously for 103 hours.

Kavitha has been perform-ing yoga continuously at a private marriage hall, situated on Third Avenue near the Anna Nagar Roundtana and completed her performance on the evening of Saturday (De-cember 30). Many people in-cluding her acquaintances have been visiting the place to watch her performance as well as to encourage her in her record-

creating attempt.“It is indeed enthralling to

see a youngster who has been performing yoga with such passion. She is a mother of a three-and-a-half-year old kid and we were awed by her dedication,” says Suguna Kasinathan, who visited the venue.

She further added that, “these days we all realise the importance of yoga and to lead stress free, healthy life it’s man-datory for us to practice any form of physical exercise. Marathon sessions like these will definitely create awareness among the people and en-lighten them on the necessity to adhere healthy lifestyle.”

Mohan, father of Kavitha says, at the end of her record performance, she would have completed 180 hours of yoga. “She started her yoga learn-ing from Asana Aandi-appan and then she has learnt it from Raman Physi Yogalayam. She is also teach-ing yoga for preg-nant women and helping them in nor-mal delivery. Yoga has be e n he r part of life s i n c e 2001,” he

said.“Through yoga I have found

a sense of home in my own body. I am using the yoga sutras, traditional yoga texts and the teachings of my gurus in many areas. I believe every day and every practice is an opportunity to develop a finer balance between effort and ease,” says Kavitha in a press release. Acro Yoga, Acqua Yoga and Pre/Post Natal Yoga are her areas of focus.

She has received the Yoga Kalaimamani award 2014 for outstanding performance in imparting the best yoga educa-tion for the public.

Broken Wall in Cemetery affects Sentiments

By Our Correspondent

The compound wall of a cem-etery used by Christians in Gan-gai Amman Nagar in Mogappair is broken partially and people are urging that it be rebuilt at the earliest.

The cemetery called ‘Christu-var Kallarai, Mogappair’, is lo-cated in Gangai Amman Nagar, which branches off from the ex-treme right-end of the Church Road at the point where the ex-

treme-left end road leads to the New Maduravoyal Bridge.

The compound wall of the cemetery is broken about 10 yards away from the cemetery’s main gate.

“This cemetery has been in operation since 1958. This is be-ing used by the Christian popula-tion in parts of the Mogappair neighbourhood especially those living in the old Mogappair vil-lage to bury their near and dear departed ones,” said Yesuthurai,

a resident of Gangai Amman Nagar. “This compound has been partially broken and no steps have been taken by the au-thorities concerned to set it right,” he added.

“It may not cost much for the authorities to build this portion of the compound wall. At best they may need only a few dozen bricks and maybe some cement and sand. Despite that I wonder why they are not taking measures to repair the wall,” said another resident who identified himself as Arockia Raj.

Those using the ceme-tery complain that the bro-ken wall gives access to anti-socials to enter the cemetery at night. Also stray animals enter the compound using this route. Besides, even the gate is not locked on most days.

“Almost on a daily ba-sis stray dogs enter this cemetery and sometimes cattle also make their way

through this broken wall. During the last All Souls Day – when Christians pay their homage to the departed souls – one family was very upset when they saw dog droppings atop the tomb-

stone of their relative who had died some years ago. I overheard them lamenting that their senti-ments have been wounded deep-ly due to this,” recalled David, who stays in Gangai Amman Nagar. If the compound wall is repaired such emotionally hurt-ing incidents can be prevented to a large extent.

S Naveen Kumar, MM Harish Ram, TV Sreevatsan, A Pranav, A Sethurajan and S Geethika of Velammal Vidyalaya grabbed honours at the CBSE National level

yoga competition held at Mamta Modern Senior Secondary School, Delhi recently.

A Road in ShambleS

By N Rathi Chithra

esidents of Janaki G a r d e n i n Mogappair East are lamenting

over the poor state of road in their area, which has stones and concrete debris protruding at different spots. “This is called the Janaki Garden Panchayat Road and is the only access

to us,” says Gomathi, a local resident of the local-ity that branches off on the left hand side ahead of the Santhosh Garden Apart-ment and diagonally op-posite a private training academy on Church Road. “Back then when we pur-chased a plot in this area

over 20 years ago this neighbourhood came un-der a panchayat and that is why this is called the Jana-ki Garden Panchayat Road. Now we are part of the Greater Chennai Cor-poration and yet this is the state of our road,” she complained.

The road covers a dis-tance of around 500 meters and leads to interior areas

of Golden George Nagar, most of the residential layouts here being later ad-ditions to the Mogappair neighbourhood, which was otherwise developed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in both the eastern and western parts.

Carols, dance, gifts mark Christmas Celebrations of Prem Nivas

The annual Christmas func-tion of Prem Nivas with kids was held at the Holy Trinity Church Hall on Dec 29. Dance, carol singing and christmas messages marked the celebra-tions. Tiny tots with eyes aglow were eagerly awaiting the mo-ment for the distribution of gifts. When it arrived, the shouts of joy and the broadening smiles were a sight to behold. The person behind this happy moment was Rev Dr John Peter, a catholic priest. Mr Prakash,

an industrialist was the chief guest. Mrs Jeni Prakash was given the honour of cut-ting the cake. The function came to an end with sumptu-ous lunch served for the kids.

road on your two-wheeler, auto rickshaw or car you should be prepared for a bumpy ride,” said Rajasek-aran, a middle-aged resi-dent who has taken a ground floor house on rent. “There are quite a few mini-apartments (one or two ground plots with about eight to 12 apart-ments) that have come up on this road, which means many more families use this stretch on a daily basis and are put to greater hard-ship due to the poor condi-tion of the road,” added Rajasekaran.

Residents go to the ex-tent of saying that riding a two-wheeler on this road virtually tests the skills of the rider, far more strenu-ously than what you would

see at the Regional Trans-port Office where they test the riding skills before issu-ing a driving license. “You would be indeed really lucky if you can balance your scooter or motorcycle on this road considering how uneven its surface is. Residents who are aware of the condition of the road take extra precaution before venturing out on a two-wheeler. But often we have come across strangers who hit this road struggling to avoid skidding. This is more so when there are more than one pillion rider on the vehicle such as a child in front and the wife sitting behind,” said Ma-hendran. “I hope authori-ties relay this road soon,” said Rajasekaran.

Oral health is a window to a persons overall health and well-being and amongst

that teeth sensitivity is one of the main problems that can range from slight discomfort to severe pain -- so make sure you are taking care of it properly.

u The quickest and easiest way would be to switch to a specialised toothpaste formulated to take care of sensitive teeth.

u Change your brushing habits. If you’re not using a soft toothbrush and if you’re scrubbing your teeth vigorously, you might worsen the

condition. Hard brushing can wear away the enamel, increasing the sensitivity in your teeth.

u Teeth whitening treatments or alcohol-based mouthwash can make things even worse, so steer clear of them.

u Keep a check on acidic food and drinks as they might wear down the teeth enamel. Limit the consumption of these foods and drinks, and try to brush about 20 minutes after eating them (not earlier, or the brushing may hurt your enamel further)

u In case your problem continues even after these changes then you must visit your dentist.

Tips to tackle this oral condition.u Individuals with gastric activ-

ity problems or gastric reflux should be treated with appropriate antacids as acid reflux leads to demineraliza-tion action resulting in dental enam-el erosion.

u People who have parafunc-tional habits such as teeth clenching or bruxism are advised to wear a night guard.

s we get ready to welcome 2018, most of us also commit to being

better versions of our-selves. Leading a healthier lifestyle usually tops the list, but it is also one of the toughest things to achieve. To finally break that cycle of unfulfilled resolutions, commit to just a few healthy habits and culti-vate them throughout the year. Stick with them for a few weeks, and you will start feeling so good that you will want to follow them for the rest of the year, says Dr Hariprasad, Ayurveda Expert at The Himalaya Drug Compa-ny. He recommends a four simple tips that you can incorporate this new year to finally become a

new you.

ExERCiSE DAiLy: Prom-ise yourself that you will spend a minimum of 40 minutes every day exer-cising. You don’t need to follow the same routine; just ensure that you work out every single day. This could be a great way to fulfill a second new year resolution of learning a new skill such as yoga or a fun dance form such as salsa. Exercising should be exciting, and some-thing that you look for-ward to. Let it not be-come a chore. Simple forms of exercise go a long way in preventive care -- they help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and osteoporo-sis, alleviate depression

and anxiety, and even boost mental alertness and confidence.

GET ENouGH SLEEP: The function of sleep is to not only relax the body, but also rest and restore the mind. It is necessary to heal and repair your heart and blood vessels. Ongo-ing sleep deficiency has been linked to an in-creased risk of various health issues that affect the heart as well as kid-ney, and also lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. While you can function for a while without getting the neces-sary amount of sleep ev-ery day, it will eventually take a toll on you. Com-mit to sleeping a mini-mum of seven hours a

day while aiming for eight, and you will feel yourself getting healthier and happier in a short amount of time.

Go NATuRAL: This year, make long-term wellness your goal instead of just trying to solve the prob-lem at hand. As per Ayurveda texts and mod-ern research, Guduchi can significantly help in pre-ventive care, as it is a great promoter of immu-nity, aids in the fight against respiratory prob-lems, and helps you get healthier. The herb is rich in antioxidants, and in-cluding it in your daily life can help you achieve better health. Adopting preventive care by con-suming appropriate sup-plements can help reduce the chances of facing health problems alto-gether, rather than simply resorting to curative care when it arises.

DRiNK ENouGH WATER: If you want to keep the

doctor away, eight glasses of water a day is the way to do it. Water is the fuel your body runs on; it is necessary to keep your body functioning well. Drinking enough water can help you with weight loss, detoxification, diges-tion, beautiful skin and hair, and even easy bowel movement. Work at this goal throughout the day and it will keep getting easier.

There are many ways to achieve this goal. Download an app, play a game, or set a reminder, but ensure you keep reach-ing for that glass of water and hit that two-litre goal. Take control of your health and life by cultivat-ing these simple habits to ensure that you make the most of this new year.

he screening of Irum-bu Thirai to media, press and special in-vitees happened last

evening at Green Park Hotel in Chennai. The entire event was emblazoned with a much sparkling ambience that com-muted the spectators to a state of enthrallment. The event commenced on an unexpect-ed surprise note, where every person over there at venue received a computerized call from Vishal on the film’s concept.

The event was graced by team members of ‘Irumbu Thirai’ including Samantha, who happens to make her first visit to Chennai after her wed-

ding bells. Speaking on the occasion, Vishal said, “Irumbu Thirai will be definitely a real big experience to audiences in theatres. I am so much awe-struck to have my mentor Ac-tion King Arjun and me shar-ing the screen space together. I am sure the last 30 minutes of the movie will keep every-one edge-seated, which in-volves the combact between me and Arjun sir. While work-ing with Samantha, I felt re-ally youthful and so much exhilarated.”

Samantha said, “While working with big actors like Vijay and Suriya sir, I would be more formal. But working with Vishal was more like fun.

I would feel that he is so much younger to me for he is so energetic all the time.”

Vishal sparked up humor-ous quotient referring Robo Shankar saying that whenever he would be tensed and broken down, Robo would tickle his funny bones by mimicking many leading actors and per-sonalities including Kala mas-ter. Robo Shankar, RV Udhay Kumar, Delhi Ganesh, Man-soor Ali Khan, Dream Warrior Pictures SR Prabhu and many other prominent celebrities were present for the occasion.

Vishal’s father GK Reddy and younger sister Aishwarya honoured the special guests gifting them bouquets.

‘Irumbu Thirai will be a real big different experience’

I deem it as an ultimate com-pliment when the songs of Kodi-veeran were compared to Imaan Sir’s style of presenting in a vil-lage theme. That the songs are still topping the charts and run-ning close to the frenzy of the `Yevvana’ number from the mov-ie Sathya, has been the added lustre to the composing of 15-film-old Raghunandan.

Evidently, the pick had been the ‘Kalavani Onnai Enni’ ren-dered by Prasanna and Soundar-ya Bala closely followed by the racy Andam Kidukidunga’ from the voices of Guru and Ma-hitha. Restoring the balance was the melody Thangame Unba (Madhu Balakrish-nan). On the choice of tunes, Raghunandan said he had given plenty to director Muthaiah and it boiled down to the hard task of which one to pick from the rich options. The director was clear in his choice cater-ing to the saleability of the lead artistes and not getting carried away with the flow of choices. In a village theme with a huge num-ber of characters thrown in, I saw it apt to stick to the winning formula of an introductory song clubbed with a thiruvizha num-ber and closing it out with a thematic number, heavy in struc-ture but easy in the lyrics.”

On sticking to his favourite

Keeravani raga in the semi mel-ody number `Ayyo Adi Aathe’, Raghunandan said it was in deference to the wishes of the director to rung in the mood when the initial romance sur-faces between the lead pair. ``Sudhakanyasi raga was the right tone for the ̀ Kalavani’ num-ber where the two hearts were exchanging their ideas in simple lyrics.”

Put off by the relative failure of the movie, Raghunandan said the disturbance was on a higher notch as so much of effort was

behind the album. ̀ `I deem each film as my first one but Kodi-veeran was a special one as I fell in love with the script the mo-ment Muthaiah narrated thread-bare the contents. With so many characters in fray, rendering the background was a challenge, particularly the climactic por-tions. Keeping the tempo at a frenzied pace brought out the best from the unit and my score possibly reflected on that.”

Raghunandan’s desire to be part of a thriller and moving away from the village scripts is all set to happen. ``The movie is from a reputed banner with the launchpad around Pongal. There is the one with the back-drop of township from a new director.” Recalling his musical journey which started on a huge success note with the solo num-ber `Kalli Katrile Piranda Thaye’ hitting the nook and corners, Raghunandan said working for records is just not in him.

Clear he is in his thinking that the number should appeal to him first before giving the desired shape.
