By Our Staff ReporterAn avenue tree on Jai Shankar Street, West Mambalam, fell

across the road during the small hours on Sept. 3.Chennai Corporation workers cut its branches and removed

the pieces. No one was injured in the incident.

Avenue tree topples

Sir, In spite of ban on posters and banners, vinyl bannersfixed to casuarinas poles are erected on road pavements andother public places and are usually used in depicting politicalfigures and other events by party workers.

However these are rarely removed after the event is over. These are not only an eyesore but also a hazard.Recently, such a banner installed on Balakrishna Street

Extension (West Mambalam) and one installed on 7th Avenuein Ashok Nagar toppled over. Luckily no one was injured in theincidents.

I appeal to the concerned authorities to take strict measuresin regulating the erection of such banners.-N. Ramanathan,18, Veerasamy Street, West Mambalam.

Sir, The Tasmac outlet at the five lights junction at theintersection of Thambiah Road Extension and ChakrapaniStreet, West Mambalam spells peril and apathy to the nearbyresidents.

Situated in the ground floor of a working women’s hostel atthe very threshold of this prestigious street, the area plaguesof nightmarish traffic and the regular Tasmac customers parktheir vehicles haphazardly obstructing the flow of vehicles.

Safety for women does not exist here and children have tocross this nuisance to reach their schools even as the ‘DrunkenMonks’ rule the stretch of the acute platforms for a comfort-able sleep around-the-clock. Encroachments at this junctionand all its corners and the pungent smell of liquor make itdifficult for the pedestrians to walk.

This also causes a great concern to the devotees who regu-larly visit the two temples in this street and the worst hit arethe senior citizens. Police patrolling is most imperative andneeds to be intensified during late hours.

I request the authorities to either close down this Tasmacshop or to shift it to a different location and also to remove theencroachments.- R. Ramadurai, 35/2, Chakrapani Street,West Mambalam.

Aggravating Tasmac menace

Sir, Mambalam Railway Station is one of the busiest amongthe suburban stations thanks to the Mambalam/T. Nagarshopping hub on its eastern side.

Sadly the entrance to this station from Ranganathan Street(the busiest section) is plagued by roadside eateries and ven-dors who dump garbage and other leftovers near the entrance, causing a health hazard. There is also pungent smell emanat-ing from the badly maintained public toilet opposite to thestation entrance and this situation is at its worst during rains. With the festive season around the corner, I request theofficials of Southern Railway and Chennai Corporation to takenecessary steps to clear the encroachments and vendor men-ace and also take steps to maintain the toilet.- R. Ramadurai,35/2, Chakrapani Street, West Mambalam.

Ranganathan Street misused by vendors

Garbage enclosures erected without prior notice

Sir, Chennai Corporation workers have installed garbageenclosures outside my residence last week without giving anyprior notice to me.

My house is under renovation and the enclosures have beeninstalled in front of the spot where I have planned to erect thegates for the entrance to my house. I met and gave a petitionto Saidai Sa. Duriasamy (Mayor) a couple of days back toremove the enclosures.

I further appeal to the concerned authorities to take neces-sary steps and relocate the enclosures.- S. R. Gopalan, 69/50,Bazullah Road, T. Nagar

If, in 1945, history’s iconoclastic butcher, Harry Truman of USAcould get away with the murder of three hundred thousand Japa-nese with two FAT BOY - atomic bombs because all is fair in war,how could the scrawny puny, unlettered Kasab, conditioned to hateIndians,

be chosen by our justice system as the barter for the 97 peoplehe and his cronies, all dead now, be the sole candidate for thefamous Indian Rope Trick!

It was WAR from the moment the killers set sail and terrorisedthe Bombay citizens. In a war you don’t invoke the rigmarole of thesnail creepy justice machinery which is not a threat to Usain Bolt.

This killer was caught with his pants down and, a couple ofstragglers dragged in for company, were acquitted. That leaveshim a lonely lunatic on the scaffold for a plunge to hell when the lever parts the platform.

IT IS SAD. Law is a blanket for life, not a cloak for death. Cananyone who loves life, condone death in the name of law? It maybe argued by blood-loving gentle people that the government hadspent about ten crore rupees for his boarding and lodging! That isvery generous but reeks of the biblical story of the prodigal son whogot the fatted calf on returning home after his wanderings.

Kasab, I hope, would be the amender of the Indian Penal Codethat has death as an award for causing the death of another or evenfor waging war against India, which is the most serious chokingknot in the rope against this idiot Kasab. Let us spend a few morecrores on his home for the rest of his life in an Indian prison.
