The Fort Polk Spouses Club held our annual gala on Friday, February 28th. This is the FPSC’s largest fundraiser of the year and with roughly 145 attendees and some amazingly generous donations from the Fort Polk and local communities, it was a huge success! Through live and silent auction over $8,000 was raised this year that will be put towards our community grants and scholarship funds. The highest value auction item went for $1,000 and was a handmade, hand painted solid wood patriotic bar donated by the JRTC Operations Group. The theme this year was “Roaring 20s New Orleans” and everyone looked incredible in their 1920s inspired outfits. Laura Black, our Philanthropy Chair, and her team of volunteers did a fabulous job executing the planning and details of this event down to the extra special touch of the ‘Second Line’ handkerchiefs that were given out as take away favors. We hope that everyone had a great time and look forward to seeing you again at next years event!

March Community Partner: Vernon Parish 4-H Club

Vernon Parish Backpack Project: It is estimated that 18.3% of Vernon Parish

residents were below the poverty level in 2018. Sometimes the only warm

nutritious meals that children of these families receive are meals they eat at school. During times of long school breaks and holidays these children risk suffering from

hunger. The Backpack Project provides these students with backpacks full of nutritious, non-perishable foods and snacks to take home with them to ensure

their dietary needs are met while school is out. All of these items should be non-

perishable and ideally something the student can open easily and eat directly from the container. The 4-H Club is hoping to be able to provide backpacks to children

in need at each of the schools in Vernon Parish. Items most requested: Peanut Butter-16-18oz. jars, Vienna Sausages, snack crackers, snack sized bags of cookies, fruit cups, oatmeal packets, Ramen soup packets, raisin boxes, pudding cups, juice boxes, dried fruit, granola bars, single serve boxes of cereal, sleeves of saltine crackers, fruit snacks, Small Ziploc bags, plastic spoons & monetary donations.
