For the 11th consecutive year, Junction 16 will continue to offer a robust and consistent quality assurance for alternative provision in the city. This was recognised again in our most recent Ofsted in May 2016. We remain extremely proud of our services and the support we provide that is valued by schools and young people who access it. As we enter the 3rd and final year of our current tender our framework of approved alternative provision remains the same, but we have decided to split the booklet to make the offers clearer for you as schools in terms of what’s available and in what capacity. This booklet will showcase the offer from alternative providers that were successful in the tender process and available to offer discrete provision for groups or on a one to one basis. Kingsmead School do not directly commission these providers. We can do this on your behalf where minimum capacity numbers are met and carry out quality assurance as required. All our providers enhance the alternative education experience for young people, offering accredited, accessible and practical placements with valid progression pathways to suit the needs of the child. Understanding the importance of vocational outcomes, we continue to consult with providers on their realistic accreditation offer. Progress 8 outcomes can sometimes be catered for but in general, providers are keen to ensure they meet DfE guidelines;

“Schools and colleges may offer qualifications that are not included in the performance tables, if approved for teaching to 14-16 year olds, where this is in the best interests of their individual students.” 2018 key stage 4 performance tables: qualifications in the technical award category, March 2017, p3

Quality Assurance of alternative provision remains a priority. Ofsted will consider how this is carried out for any young person or groups of young people, accessing an alternative provision placement organised and requested by a school. For more information on your quality assurance options for discrete provision, please see the discrete overview page. Our work with bordering local authorities continues and is making good progress towards creating a consistent assessment tool for quality assuring alternative provision. With this in place we hope to be able to recognise excellence in alternative providers, inspiring them to achieve and maintain the standards required for Outstanding Alternative Provision. We maintain excellent relationships with the young people, parents or carers, schools and providers who work with us and will continue to strive to provide the highest quality, supportive service to all those who access it. Thank you for your ongoing support. Vicki Grainger Alternative Provision Manager

Access Training is a work-based learning provider that has been successfully providing work-based learning and pre-employment programmes in the East Midlands for over 25 years. Since October 2010 Access Training has provided construction skills courses in Derby City and currently works with secondary and special schools in Derby and Nottinghamshire. Access Training is able to deliver training in construction for both Key Stage 3 and/or Key Stage 4 pupils, offering either group or individual rates. To date, our schools’ construction qualification rate has been 92.3%. Access Training encourages young people to develop an understanding of the construction sector through work-related learning, hands on experience and raising pupil expectations of progressing into either further education or employment. At the start of the programme, the learners will have a thorough induction programme which includes health and safety, expected behaviour standards and the pupils’ responsibilities for themselves and others at the centre. Learners can attend between half a day and three days per week, achieving appropriate unit-based construction qualifications. This can include brickwork, plumbing, joinery and painting & decorating. Subject to availability, there may be an opportunity for learners who have completed their qualification, to attend educational visits to construction trade shows as part of the Skills and Employability Programme.

MANAGEMENT COUNTRYSIDE MANAGEMENT FISHING CAST Angling Project has been working with schools in Nottinghamshire since 2003 and with The Kingsmead School in Derby since 2008. Originally designed as a project to engage hard-to-reach young people in deprived communities, success in this area led to the project providing courses and workshops with a mix of classroom and practical sessions for schools, special schools and specialist agencies. Engagement through angling is a medium which CAST has pioneered and it has demonstrated angling to be the ideal tool for creating a link between learning new skills and achieving goals. The focus is on teaching a range of disciplines and specialisms within the sport while providing the opportunity to learn to understand and respect the environment. CAST courses are designed with young people to create an exciting and enjoyable learning experience which enables the participant to develop a range of life and transferable skills. Participation in courses allows young people to benefit from the following:

• Development of a lifelong interest which demonstrates the benefits of learning through setting personal targets and learning how to achieve them

• Access to qualifications through participation in the CAST Personal Development Course. The course delivers a range of AIM SEFL qualifications

• Education in a safe, relaxed and non-pressured environment • The opportunity to develop the skills required for working as part of a group • Continued involvement with the project through Out of School Groups

Déda is a creative centre for dance, contemporary circus and outdoor work – connecting locally, nationally and internationally. Déda offers learners the opportunity to take part in dance workshops in a range of styles as well as contemporary circus workshops. In these programmes there will be a mixture of physical and creative work led by highly-skilled artists. Learners will be challenged with different tasks and activities throughout the year, such as improvisation, choreography and performance, as well as learning skills in dance, acrobatics, trapeze, hoop, rope and silks. Déda aims to provide students with new and interesting experiences which will be documented throughout the sessions and used to gain Bronze Arts Award. We will complete a unit after every four weeks of workshops. Alongside specialist artists, Déda’s Dance Development and Learning Co-ordinator will enable learners to complete their Arts Award Units. The sessions are at Déda in their state of the art aerial and dance studio. Opportunities to attend workshops or performances at Déda, as well as outside of Déda, are also available. These programmes are an excellent opportunity to give learners a chance to take part in arts activities that will inspire and challenge them. Activities such as dance and contemporary circus will create opportunities to develop friendships, trust and build their confidence within the group. This provision enables learners to develop their own creativity as well as gain a valuable qualification, skills and experiences.

As a BTEC approved centre, we are pleased to be able to accredit our learners with BTEC qualifications in engineering. The Level 1 BTEC Award and Certificate are included in the 2017/2018 progress 8 performance tables. In addition, we can offer unit-based accreditation where appropriate. All courses are delivered in a fully equipped manufacturing workshop offering “accredited work experience”. Students engage in the manufacture of skips and structural steel work for the construction industry. Our vocational engineering training provides learners with valuable steel fabrication and welding engineering skills. These new skills provide a solid foundation from which learners can progress into the many exciting areas of modern engineering. With an emphasis on teamwork, many of these skills are transferable into everyday life, from the welding of a friend's car to using measuring and estimating skills to support independent living. By utilising the BTEC accreditation each individual will be able to take away nationally recognised qualifications to assist them in their career development.

Not just a farm: The Island Project Farming & Education Centre was established in 2008. We are based on a unique four acre therapeutic farming site. We have donkeys, llamas, goats, pigs and small animals as well as converted stables with different learning zones, workshops, an ICT Hub and a café. This environment has been created so that the students can relax in a calm and less rigid learning space. We provide a range of individualised ‘need level’ programmes, ranging from group work to one to one intensive support. Our speciality being in Autism and complex needs learners. All our courses offer accredited outcomes following AIM AWARD SEFL programmes. As a satellite centre of excellence we are able to adapt conventional awards and make them more specific to our environment, offering greater chances for progression. This flexibility allows for learner achievements to be recognised through specifically designed courses that meet the needs of individual target groups and provide learners with the underpinning skills and knowledge that will enable them to choose the most appropriate progression routes. All our SEFL Accreditations lend to individual pathways for progression and post 16.

Tute’s live and interactive online lessons are delivering education excellence for students at all levels of learning. We are reducing exclusion and raising attainment with our personalised programmes, delivered both in and out of mainstream settings, from KS2 – KS5. The quality of our provision is verified by the DfE, by whom we are directly commissioned; by the Pupil Premium award-winning schools we work with; and by Ofsted, who have published acknowledgement of our impact in their school inspection reporting. Our Virtual School offers short-term ‘revolving door’ provision at KS2, KS3 & KS4, whilst our extensive range of GCSE and A Level courses meet longer-term requirements for individuals and groups. We also offer a range of off-the-shelf packages, each delivering a number of targeted lessons for programmes of intervention, revision or enrichment, whilst Tute’s unique Social Cloud enables directed learning and collaboration outside of timetabled teaching hours. We can even build your very own Virtual School! Every Tute lesson is delivered live, by a qualified and experienced teacher and our provision is accessible from any location offering a computer with broadband connection and a headset. Automated absence alerts, regular reporting and lesson playbacks all ensure efficient student tracking. Quality assurance is overseen by Shireland Collegiate Academy and the recorded lessons allow for internal QA. Yr7 catch-up, D-C boosters, SATs preparation, GCSE revision, literacy and numeracy reinforcement, EAL, alternative provision, G&T enrichment and overcoming recruitment issues are just some of the ways in which we support schools to improve outcomes for learners.

YMCA Derbyshire delivers a variety of courses, predominately to 14 -19 year olds, through a number of funded and non-funded programmes at the YMCA Campus for Learning and Development, the YMCA training centre based in the centre of Derby and at outreach centres in Derby city centre, Ilkeston and Chesterfield. On all programmes learners have the opportunity to gain nationally-recognised qualifications through QCF approved awarding bodies such as City & Guilds and CIEH. These qualifications are gained by completing a portfolio of evidence and/or by taking exams. The YMCA has gained approval to self-certify on all of its City & Guilds qualifications by ensuring consistency and quality of work produced. YMCA Derbyshire offers learners the opportunity to progress to a variety of study programmes delivered at all our centres.

The benefits of having gone through a strict tender process means we are able to present to you a framework of approved providers. Although we have not directly commissioned all of these providers or their provisions, they are available for individual schools to commission directly as a discrete group. All providers listed in this section have been initially quality assured* in the same way our commissioned providers have. This means they have had to provide the following:

• Health and Safety; Safeguarding; Behaviour; Equality and Diversity policies, and show that processes behind these are implemented across the provision

• Accreditation offered within the QCF • Resources to manage attendance in line with DfE guidelines • Systems and responsibilities around monitoring, tracking and supporting attainment

Junction 16 can co-ordinate the initial set up and on-going monitoring of your discrete group; we would also oversee the termly quality assurance and weekly feedback required for an annual fee of £375. This service would include: Initial set up

• Liaison with relevant providers, provision search and costings to referring school • Initial quality assurance information confirmed • Coordinating contractual agreements • Ensuring compliance with the contract

Ongoing monitoring • Weekly feedback on attendance, engagement and progression • Lesson observations and learning walks • Termly quality assurance reviews of the Alternative Provision • Termly reviews with the referring school sharing individual student reports and progression

updates • Mentor allocation to oversee the discrete group • Dealing with, and the liaison for, any incidents • Support and quality assurance for any Ofsted Inspection

If you feel that you do not need this service then you can take responsibility for this yourself following initial set up by us. No additional costs would be charged for this set up. *We hold termly quality assurance for all our commissioned providers in the vocational placements booklet. The providers listed in this booklet are not included in these termly checks and therefore would need ongoing quality assurance to be arranged should you wish to use them. NB: All provisions in the Vocational placements booklet are also available as discrete groups.
