Have you ever gotten frustrated during a conversation because the other person just went on and on and on? You couldn’t get a word in the conversation. In fact it wasn’t a conversation. It was a monologue and you were doing all the listening.

We sometimes treat God like that. So our “UNHINDERED DEVOTIONS” have been written in a format to help our prayers not be a monologue, in which all God does is listen. Instead these devotions will help us listen to what God is saying, then talk to Him about it. After reading a verse

or passage of scripture, we answer a few questions intended to help us reflect on the passage. Finally we pray about our answers. The result is we begin talking to God about the things He is saying to us…thus our prayers become a dialogue.

Visit our church web site (www.fbcrockhill.org) and click the “UNHINDERED DEVOTIONALS” button to find today’s devotion. A new devotion will appear each morning for the next six weeks.

Monday, January 16, we had almost 200 people who had never seen our web site visit it for the very first time and participate in these online devotions. Fantastic! But as good as that is, it’s not good enough. We need every person at First Baptist participating, which means we need you.

By praying with us about our future, you will be helping your church. By using these daily devotions for six weeks, you will benefit personally because your prayer life will change. So…what do you say? Are you up to the challenge?

the 3-eyed monster hard at WorkThank you so much to the 200 + volunteers who gave three precious hours to attend a very important ministry training session on Friday, January 20. It excites me to no end to have so many volunteers give of

their Friday evening to be better equipped and lead in ministry. As we take what was discussed and move forward, I am equally excited about what God is going to do among us. Already in the works are several new classes, likely to launch in March. We are working on a new class for Men, Ladies, Singles, 50+ couples, and mid-30’s to mid-40’s couples. If for some reason you have not discovered a place to connect at FBC, one of these new starts might be a great place for you to dive in!! By way of reminder, keep these key factors in mind:

Invest in relationships with • people and ChristInvite people to meet Jesus and • friends in Sunday SchoolInspire people to use their God • given gifts to serve others

In a nut shell, that’s what it is all about. Do you love someone enough to talk about Christ with them? Do you love them enough to help them on their spiritual journey, as they help you? Are you motivated enough in your spiritual life to encourage others to give of themselves for the cause of Christ? I know you are, so lets get after it together and see what God can do with a passionate people who love Jesus and want to make Him known. In Christ,

Steve Polk

Disaster Relief Training March 2-3, 2012 White Oak Conference CenterWhen disaster strikes, one of the first groups to arrive on the scene are the Disaster Relief teams of the Southern Baptist Convention. They are there to clean up, feed, and offer other services. First Baptist is home to a chainsaw team that has helped following tornadoes that hit in Clover and Rock Hill in the past nine months. The men and women who serve on the team are there not just to help clean up but to share the message of Christ with their words and presence.

If you would like to be a part of the Disaster Relief team, you can be trained on the chainsaw team or on other teams like medical, childcare, evangelism and other areas. Training through the South Carolina Baptist Convention is required. If you are interested, please contact Jamie Burdette in the church office or via email at [email protected].

Discovery Church UpdateRochester, New YorkIn January, Discovery Church moved to a new facility which will give them more room to grow and also give them better facilities for children’s ministry. The new building gave them the opportunity to host a community event with a concert on a recent Saturday night. At their Christmas Eve service, Discovery Church had their highest attendance to date – 92 people. They have a leadership team in place and averaging 2-4 new guests each Sunday. Please continue to pray for Discovery Church and their pastor Elliott Sneed.

PrayIng For dIreCtIonWe gathered at the altar during both worship services this past Sunday to pray and seek God's direction in dealing with the challenges that are hindering our effectiveness in evangelism and growth. We want to be UNHINDERED, so we are doing what the Bible tells us to...ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 promises that if we lack wisdom and ask God for it, He will give it. So we asked...and we believe God will give it.

It was moving to see so many of us on our knees before the Lord. So many people came to the altar in our 10:30 service that some of the aisles were clogged with persons kneeling to pray.

There is a growing hunger among us for God to do something great. We are not satisfied with the status quo.

Keep praying! That’s the key. Hundreds of you are already using the UNHINDERED DEVOTIONALS on our church website. Keep it up! Remember to continue fasting some way during these weeks when we’re seeking God. If we seek Him with all our heart, He will answer our prayers and meet our needs.

“unhIndered PresentatIon”Wednesday, February 8 @ 6:25 p.m.

Pastor Steve will update the church on the progress made in addressing our “Unhindered” challenges during the Wednesday evening worship service on February 8 beginning at 6:25 p.m.

The Church has responded tremendously to this challenge through prayer, fasting, and daily devotions. The “Unhindered” Task Force will have met twice before the February 8 meeting, and their progress will be a part of the presentation along with survey responses from internal and external surveys. Please come and join Pastor Steve for this important time of sharing information and progress in this important process.
