2020 PREP ENROLMENT PLACES AVAILABLE - Children born 1 JULY 2014—30 JUNE 2015

ENROLMENT NUMBERS FOR 2020 We would like to continue to increase our enrolment numbers for 2020. Parents of our school are best promoters for WHAT’S GREAT AND UNIQUE ABOUT FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS. So please promote our school and be a cam-paigner for increasing our enrolment numbers. We are an enrolment managed school, however because we are not at capacity for 2020, we are able to accept enrolments out of the catchment area, until our numbers reach capacity. If you know any families who are living out of the catchment area for Fairview Heights and want to come to Fairview, could you let them know, so we can make arrangements for enrolment procedures. We look forward to further enrolment enquiries.

SPORT SHIRT ORDERS Shirts cost $35.00 and orders need to be returned to the of-fice with payment by TODAY—Friday 29 November. There will be NO LATE ORDERS and PAYMENTS accepted

YEAR 5 & 6 CAMPS Our Year 6 students are having a wonderful time at Talle-budgerra . Please look at our school Facebook Page to view the photos of the students enjoying the beautiful weather. I wish our Year 5 Students and Staff travelling to Emu Gully next week , from Monday to Wednesday, a safe and fun camp. Enjoy the many challenges (Mud, Tunnels, Rock climbing etc) that you will endure.

BULLOCH, TURKINGTON & COMMUNITY SER-VICE AWARDS The time has come around very quickly when as a school we need to call for nominations for the Bulloch, Turkington and

Community Service Awards. Nomination forms are available from the school office and need to be re-turned by MONDAY 2 DECEMBER.

CHAPLAINCY FUNDRAISER

Next Wednesday 4 December the Chaplaincy Committee will be holding a Sausage Sizzle. A sausage on bread will be available for $2 at first break. We will send out a reminder on our app next Monday.

PARENT REQUESTS Parent requests will be considered in the context of teacher judgements, overall school operational requirements and individual unique circumstances. As I have said in the past, a request is never guaranteed, it is considered. No more par-ent requests are being taken, as we are in our final deliber-ations for classes. We have given parents ample time to place their parents requests at the office.

VOLUNTEERS DAY

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all Fairview Heights State School volunteers for the important and valued role they play in our school. Next Thursday, 5 December is International Volunteers Day and I encourage our students and staff to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for their contribution to our school com-munity.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL Our Year 4-6 Swimming Carnival will be held next Friday 6 December at Harristown State Primary School Pool. All children will be travelling by bus to the pool leaving FHSS at 9:45am. The cost of the bus will be met by the school. The children will need a hat, water, sunshirt and sunscreen for the day. We will be at the pool all day so students will require lunch and morning tea. Children should wear a swimming cap. All permission forms should have been re-turned to the classroom teacher by now – if you have not received a form please call into the office to complete one.

REPORT CARDS This term, all report cards will be sent to parents/carers

by email. Please ensure that your emails are up to date. If in doubt please check with the Office ladies. The emailed report cards will be sent out to parents on the Wednesday of the last week of school, which is Wednesday 11 December. If your emails are not up to date, you will not be able to ac-cess your report cards.

FREE DRESS DAY Our last free dress day for 2019 is on the last Thursday of Term. This is Thursday 12 December. Please bring along a gold coin for our Chaplaincy fund.

FINAL DAYS Friday 13 December is the last school day for 2019. This day is a designated school day and we use it as a clean-up day. Students attending school on this day will assist with general clean up duties and help with the shifting of learning materials to different classrooms. If parents do not wish to send their child/ren on Friday 13 December we ac-cept this decision. School will conclude for 2019 at 3.00pm on Friday 13 December. School will close for the Christmas Break on Friday 13 December and resume on Tuesday 28 January 2020. Monday 27 January is a public holiday to celebrate Australia Day

PAST STUDENTS Every year at this time, we have past students just arriving at our school to offer to help during the last week. These numbers have grown over the years and has become an issue for us. Every day counts at school as a learning oppor-tunity and having past students at our school for a number of days during the last week has created issues for our stu-dents as the past students are distracting for our students and legally they do not attend our school. So our Policy is that past students are not able to come to our school and remain at school during school hours unless they are under-taking a Work Experience opportunity that has been signed off by their School Principal.

EVERY DAY COUNTS

The holidays are fast approaching. While it may be tempting to let your child stay home for the last day or even the last week of term, our school would prefer to see every child on every day of every term. We strongly believe children need to attend school every day to receive the most benefits from their education. Did you realise that skipping the last day of every term adds up to more than a whole term of schooling missed throughout a child’s education? Skipping a whole week of school each term means your child will miss more than 15 months of their education! For further information on the importance of regular school attendance, please visit www.education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/posters.html

As our school year draws to a close we have seen our PBL framework flourish in our classrooms and whole school community. Our students are speaking our PODS language freely and understanding the explicit meaning of our whole school behaviour expectations and how they translate into their own be-haviour. So many of our students, without prompting, display positive, commendable behaviour daily, helping each other to do so. I think that is what sets the Fairview Heights community apart, is our sense of to-getherness and wrapping support around those who need it, when they need it, however that looks on any one day. As with all effective frameworks, revising and making changes that reflect the growth in our school com-munity is important. This has seen some streamlining of the PBL framework in classrooms and across the school context in 2019. We will no longer be holding End of Term Celebrations, pulling these reward days into our classroom communities, so that all students feel that sense of belonging with their teacher and peers. We will, however, for those students who have not received a major behaviour referral for the semester, acknowledge them at our Final Parade on Wednesday 11 December with a commemorative badge and certificate. This parade will commence at 2pm. The success of any framework is dependent upon the community, teachers and students, who implement it and abide by it. Our PBL framework at Fairview Heights has been recognised as being very successful, receiving a 100% score when audited. This is due to the tireless, heartfelt efforts of staff and parents and the eagerness of our students. Well done everyone! Here is looking forward to a positive 2020 at Fairview Heights State School. Bec Casey Acting Head of Special Education Services PBL Behaviour Coach
