Anti-angiogenic and Antibacterial Properties of Orange Mud Crab

    ( Scylla orivacea) Hemolymph

This study uses Orange Mud Crab because crab is a common food source in the Philippines influence by the

seas and oceans surrounding it. The researcher wondered whether the crabs blood could help by being ananti-angiogenic and/or antibacterial agent. .

In conducting the study, materials were used from the natural resources in the seas and from the laboratory.

The researcher was curious is the hemolymph of Orange Mud Crab can be used as an anti-angiogenic andantibacterial. Before conducting experimentation, the researcher sterilized materials in the autoclave to preventcontamination. Then, the researcher tested five treatments, specifically, water (negative control), 100% hemolymph50% hemolymph, 25% hemolymph, and Mercapto purine (Positive control for Anti-angiogenesis) and Amoxicillin(Positive control for Antibacterial). For Anti-angiogenesis, the treatment was replicated three times on three day olduck eggs, and the results were recorded after 72 hours. For the antibacterial, the treatment was also replicated thretimes but on Staphylococcus aureus. The results were then recorded after 24 hours.

Based on the results of the anti-angiogenesis and antibacterial experimentation, the 100% hemolymph hasalmost the same effect as the positive control. This means that the hemolymph of Orange Mud crab can be used as anti-angiogenic and antibacterial.

It is recommended that the future researchers could conduct an antibacterial against bacteria aside fromStaphylococcus aureus. The researchers could also research what components in the crab;s hemolymph allow for itbe used as an anti-angiogenic and antibacterial.
