FEEL THE HEAT: The Dodgers tonight continue their sweltering
10-game NL East road trip (2-2) with the second of three games
against the Braves in Atlanta, Georgia. The Dodgers took two of three
from the first-place Nationals this past weekend and will close out the
trip with a visit to the “Big Apple” and four games with the New York
Mets starting Thursday. Following the trip, the Dodgers return home
for an off day July 27, before beginning a five-game homestand
against Oakland (2 G) and the Angels (3 G).
The Dodgers took two of three from Atlanta at Dodger
Stadium May 25-27. Los Angeles has won three consecutive
series with the Braves, dating to July 29, 2014. The last time
the Dodgers won four consecutive series against the Braves
was May 11, 2001-Aug. 25, 2002 and they will need
victories tonight and tomorrow to accomplish that.
The Dodgers are 20-24 on the road this season, which stands
in sharp contrast to their 49-32 record away from home last
season. Since the start of 2011, the Dodgers are 90-59 (.604)
on the road following the All-Star break.
Los Angeles is 12-8 against the National League East this
season, posting a 2.90 team ERA and a .283 team batting
average. The batting average against the NL East is by far
the highest by the Dodgers against any division.
The Dodgers’ 87-50 record (.635) in the second half of the
season since 2013 is the best in baseball. The next closest
team is the Kansas City Royals at 87-55 (.613).
PINCH ME: On this date in 2002, Dodger infielder Dave Hansen
broke Dodger broadcaster Manny Mota’s club career pinch-hitting
mark with his 107th pinch hit in a game against the San Francisco
Giants. Hansen finished his career with 139 pinch hits, which ranks
sixth all-time, behind former Dodger Lenny Harris (212), former
Dodger Mark Sweeney (175), former Dodger and Pirate Mota (155),
Smokey Burgess (145) and Greg Gross (143).
The Dodgers are tied for eighth in the Major Leagues with 26
pinch-hits on the season (26-for-123, .211), but are second
with five pinch-hit homers and tied for second with 21 pinch-
hit RBI. Alex Guerrero collected a pinch-hit single last
night and leads the club this season with eight pinch-hits (T-
3rd
, MLB, 8-for-32, .250).
KILLING THEM SOFTLY: After collecting just six hits on Friday,
the Dodgers are having a party at the bat rack, banging out 13, 15 and
14 the last three games, respectively. It’s the first time the club has
collected double-digit hits in three consecutive games since Sept. 26-
28, 2014 (11, 11, 16) and the 42 hits in three contests are the most
since July 4-6, 2014 (19, 8, 15).
The Dodgers lead the National League with 116 homers, 324
walks and a .330 on-base percentage. The club’s .427
slugging percentage ranks second.
Justin Turner is on fire, matching a career high with four
hits last night and going 9-for-11 in his last three games and
11-for-18 (.611) in his last five. Not to be overlooked, in his
last four games, Adrian Gonzalez is 9-for-16 (.563).
TOP TEXAN: Congratulations to Double-A Tulsa right-hander Chris
Anderson on being named Texas League Pitcher of the Week!
Anderson struck out eight and allowed just one run on four hits in a
9.0-inning complete game in his only start of the week, July 17 vs.
Arkansas. Overall, the 22-year-old, who was selected as a Texas
League All-Star, leads the league with nine wins (9-5) and also ranks
among the circuit’s best in ERA (3.34, 6th), strikeouts (80, T-2
nd) and
opponents’ batting average (.233, 4th) in 17 starts with the Drillers.
Anderson was selected by the Dodgers with the 18th overall pick in the
2013 First-Year Player draft out of Jacksonville University.
ROLL THEM OVER: Dodger starter Brett Anderson will take the
ball for the first time in the second half tonight and he has already
made 18 starts and fired 108.0 innings this season, which are his most
since 2010 (19 starts, 112.0 innings). Anderson leads the Major
Leagues with a 66.9 groundball percentage and ranks third in baseball
with a 3.69 ground ball to fly ball ratio.
Anderson’s only other career start against the Braves came
earlier this season at Dodger Stadium, when he allowed two
runs and seven hits in 7.0 inning, leaving without a decision.
CC ARE YOU WITH ME?: Prior to the game, Dodger outfielder
Carl Crawford was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list after
missing the last 75 games with a right oblique strain suffered on April
27. The Houston, TX, native played 10 rehab games for Single-A
Rancho Cucamonga (2 G) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (8 G), hitting
a combined .353 with a homer, eight RBI, two doubles and two triples.
To make room for Crawford on the roster, the Dodgers
optioned last night’s starter, Brandon Beachy, to Triple-A
Oklahoma City. To make room for Crawford on the 40-man
roster, Triple-A Oklahoma City right-handed pitcher Preston
Guilmet was designated for assignment.
Yesterday, the Dodgers placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-
day disabled list with right knee inflammation and recalled
catcher Austin Barnes. Barnes, who started and went 2-for-4
last night, was hitting .304 in 62 games for Triple-A
Oklahoma City this season, with 13 doubles, a triple, eight
home runs and 38 RBI. Barnes has drawn more walks (28)
than strikeouts (26) this year for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

strikeouts per nine innings. In his career, Jansen has averaged 14.18
