I came to this sixth form not only because I was following in the footsteps ofmy sister, but also because of the endless opportunities with which it wouldprovide me and the support given by friendly, approachable teachers.
The best thing about this sixth form is the balance between the academic andsocial aspects. This includes the excellent quality of teaching, a wide varietyof subjects and the opportunities to develop friendships and bonds with newpeople.
Although I’m heavily involved in sports and drama, Lordswood Sixth FormCentre has helped me to discover my enthusiasm for business, which I nowhope to study at university.
Leo - Head Boy
Studying business, sociology, performing arts and sports studies
I really enjoyed my time at Lordswood Girls’ School from Year 7 to Year11 and I didn’t want to move to a new college or sixth form because I hadbecome used to life at Lordswood. I enjoyed the teaching and loved thefriends that I had made. I was comfortable at Lordswood and knew that Iwould feel the same way when attending Lordswood Sixth Form Centre.
The best thing about Lordswood is the fact that you can feel secure andconfident when talking to your teachers. The sixth form team makes youfeel at home and you know that whatever you need help with, the teachersand support staff are there for you. The relationships that you create withyour teachers are priceless and I feel that you wouldn’t be able to get thisanywhere else.
Once I have completed my post 16 studies, I hope to go to university tostudy psychology.

s h i p We aim to offer you much more than a set of academic qualifications. We
want you to extend your passion for your studies beyond the classroomwalls and want you to embark on new adventures. So if you are an aspiringsinger or performer we have our school productions or gospel choir and, ifyou are a committed fundraiser, there is the sixth form organised talent show
or charity challenge day.
Our Sixth Form Partnership with The UCC in Ghana
Lordswood Sixth Form students have proudly supported the developmentof the UCC Ghana through fundraising activities and by sponsoring childrenat the school. Each year a group of our students also have the uniqueopportunity to spend a month teaching in Ghana, immersed in the localculture.
18 years ago Billa started a very basic school under a mango tree in LaBadi,Ghana, encouraging children to study in return for the chance to playfootball. One man’s vision has led to a school catering to almost 200 pupilsfrom the most disadvantaged backgrounds. These students are taught, fed, nurtured, loved and financially supported through to secondary educationand beyond. Billa, a football fanatic, also runs several football teams withsome young players now getting the opportunity to play abroad.
This is Ado, a student at the Underprivileged Children’s Centre (FutureLeaders) in Ghana. He is an unforgettable, joyful young boy but because hehas specific learning needs it has been difficult for him to be accepted intoone of the local government schools. For many students like Ado attendinga ‘free’ government school is also unaffordable after paying for the uniforms, the books, and food.
“It really is a oncein a lifetimeexperiencewhich reminds
us how luckywe are to havesuch easyaccess toeducation.” Ado

Biologists are scientists who study the naturalworld and all the living things in it, from the largestmammals down to our very own microscopic DNA.
They try to understand how animals and organismswork (including us humans), how we evolved and thethings that can make us sick or improve our health. As with the other sciences, biology helps you tobuild up research, problem solving, organisation andanalytical skills. If you study biology, you will likelyfind yourself working on group projects, which willhelp you develop your teamwork and communicationskills too.
biology

and jobs involving plantsor animals. The list is verylong and includes nursing, dentistry, forensic science, psychology, physiotherapy, botany, environmentalscience, zoology, geology, oceanography, pharmaceuticals, energy, teaching, science writing, genetics and research.
“Biology opens up excitingcareer possibilities. Fromconservation to cancerresearch, biologists aretackling important 21stcentury challenges, and weneed skilled young people
to be part of this. It is alsoimportant to rememberthat biology is excellentpreparation for non-scientificcareers, thanks to the skillsit provides – everything fromanalytical thinking to writingreports.”
progression

Chemists get to ask some great questions, from “IfI set this on fire, what will happen?” to “If I combinethese elements together in the right way can I create
something totally new”? And it’s all part of the job.
Chemists conduct experiments to study how elementswork in different conditions, test how they mix andwork out what they are made up of. The results can beground breaking, colourful, explosive or impossible tosee. Chemists use their experiments and knowledge todevelop medicines, foods, fabrics and other materials, from neon lights to shatter-proof glass.
They also use it to understand the world aroundus, from why leaves change colour to discoveringinvisible pollutants in the air. Just breathe in and outand you’re performing a chemical reaction, which is alittle scary, but pretty great too…
Chemistry is sometimes known as the ‘central science’because it helps to connect physical sciences, likemaths and physics, with applied sciences, like
biology, medicine and engineering.
