TodAY’S WoRSHIP

Today we celebrate Christmas Day. The anticipation of our celebration of the birth of Christ is over – Christmas is here! The events leading up to the birth of Christ weren’t coincidental, but were put in place by God, so that the prophecies of old would be fulfilled (Isaiah 7: 13-14; Isaiah 9: 6-7; Micah 5: 2-5). Everything that happened - from the time the census was ordered, to everyone returning to their own city to be registered, and then the birth of Jesus while Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem - was orchestrated by God. Out of Bethlehem, a small town in the City of David, came the Messiah. This event was the beginning of something absolutely incredible. Jesus Christ left His throne in glory and took on human form to bring us reconciliation to God our Father. He came into the world, being miraculously conceived, and then born as all humans are. He was first a baby, then became a toddler, then grew into a child and went through adolescence before becoming an adult. He experienced humanity at all levels. He truly can identify with all people at all stages of life. This very first Christmas, God gave the greatest gift ever. His Son! And His Son gave the gift of His life - which was why He came. Because of this, we can have relationship with God as His children. Through Jesus Christ, we are sons and daughters of the Most High God. Today Pastor Drew will offer a special Christmas Meditation as we celebrate as a church family by singing many of the wonderful carols written to honor the birth of our Lord and Savior. As we sing these carols, we will gain a new appreciation for the heritage of faith they stand for, and a new richness in our celebration of Christ’s birth. Please join us as we sing these great hymns of peace, joy, hope, and truth!

“Good Christian men, rejoice with heart and soul and voice; give ye heed to what we say: news! News! Jesus Christ is born today! Ox and ass before Him bow, and He is in the manger now: Christ is born today! Christ is born today!”

Evening Tonight, Pastor John Moore will be preaching a Christmas sermon titled, Who Is the Christ of Christmas? This sermon is based on Hebrews 1:1-4. Many people miss the true meaning of Christmas. They do not think of Jesus and His miraculous birth. Instead, they think of family, gatherings, festivities, decorations, and gifts. Or, if they think of Jesus’ birth, they see Christ only as the Babe in a manger. But Christmas means so much more. It is the story of how God became a man. The Christ of Christmas is the God of heaven, the God who became one of us, the God who lived the perfect life God’s just Law requires, and died a sinner’s death God’s justice demands for His people. Christ is our Lord and Savior. In Hebrews 1:1-4 we discover that the Christ of Christmas is God’s supreme revelation.

Striking of the Hour

Call to Worship Luke 2:8-14

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

(All:) glory to god in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

* Christmas Confession of Faith

We believe that God, according to His eternal purpose and pleasure, chose to ordain the Lord Jesus, His only begotten Son, to be the Mediator between God and man. Jesus Christ is Prophet, Priest and King, the Head and Savior of His Church whom He redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.

We believe that the Son of God, the second person of the trinity is fully God and fully man, having taken upon Himself man’s nature, and yet without sin. We believe He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, in the womb of the virgin Mary, and has therefore two distinct natures –human and divine – in one person.

We believe that the Lord Jesus, by His perfect obedience and sacrificial death has fully satisfied God’s justice and has purchased not only reconciliation, but an everlasting inheritance for all whom the Father has given Him.

We believe that the Triune God –Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- is due all glory, honor, worship and service from angels and men, and every other creature forever and ever. Amen.
